The layout of this Holy Well is very Pagan in origin. In Pre Christian Ireland this type of Well was deemed to be a place where the God's of the Underworld communicated with humankind and where offerings to these God's were made for favours either received or requested. When Christianity was introduced into Ireland these Wells had their names changed to those of Christian Saints and used as places of religious worship and gathering...

St. Brigid (Irish: Naomh Bríd) is also known as Mary of the Gael or Muire na nGael aka Our Lady of the Irish. She is one of the Patron Saints of Ireland, along with St Patrick and St Columcille.
Born in Dundalk in 450 AD St Brigid was the founder of the first monastery in County Kildare, Ireland. Her father was a pagan chieftain of Leinster and her mother was a Christian. St Patrick inspired her to become a Catholic and spread the word of God. Legend has it, people used to make crosses from rushes to hang over the door of their homes to ward off evil, fire and hunger. Over time, word spread about St Brigid, her kindness, faith and the making of the cross became synonymous with her and the tradition now bears her name, the St. Brigid Cross.

very near the Hill of Uisneach is St. Brigid's Well- over a field just close to the Uisneach Inn-there is remarkable peace and healing at this beautiful place of ancient grace -we give thanks and praise to the Creator for the sacred waters of the pure springs which fill these holy wells flowing from deep within the bosom of our Mother Earth- i dont know the age of this well but the presence of the Goddess is very much here ~the birdsong celebrating Bealtaine is a joy bringing deep gratitude-

The arrival of Brigid`s Way Celtic Pilgrimage into Kildare
Brigid`s Way an ancient path between Sky and Earth. A nine day Pilgrimage which passes along an alignment of ancient and sacred sites in Ireland, which stretches from Brigid's Well in Faughart, County Louth to Kildare. This alignment reflects the Swan Constellation of the Cygnus, which is associated with Goddess/Saint Brigid.
