Kapolei: Oahu's Second City?
Kapolei was formally designated as a secondary urban center nearly 40 years ago, and the building of a government services center was envisioned as a way to help spur development and create jobs in a “Second City” that would allow residents to work in the community they live in.
Development and growth of Kapolei as Oahu’s Second City continues to be a contentious point for many, more than 25 years after master developer Campbell Estate, now known as the James Campbell Company, broke ground on the city of Kapolei. (Video by Kimberly Yuen)

World War One Centennial Opening Ceremony - Honolulu, Hawaii
The World War One Centennial Opening Ceremony was held today at Aloha Tower in Honolulu, Hawaii honoring the 6 Hawaii-born members of the merchant marines that lost their lives on April 1, 1917, when a German u-boat torpedoed and sunk their ship the SS Aztec off the north-west coast of France, bringing the United States into World War I.
The lost merchant marines were: John Davis, Charles Kanai, Elena Kaohi, Chester Lee, Julian R. Macomb, and Henry Rice.
On April 2, 1917, President Woodrow Wilson asked Congress for a declaration of war against the Germany which was granted and the US declared war on the German Empire on April 6, 1917, changing the United States from a neutral country into a combatant. Hawaii's response was to send merely 10,000 men to serve in many capacities including military, civilian, and volunteer.
The World War One Centennial Opening Ceremony marks the beginning of numerous events that will be held over the next two years remembering those lost in The Great War.

Talented waters in Kapolei are strengthening Hurricanes
In 2016 the Kapolei Hurricanes ended a school-record 10 win season with a 54-7 loss to Kahuku in the state open division semifinals. It was a game where the upstart Hurricanes were over matched on both sides of the ball, an unlikely result this year with a reloaded roster in 2017.

We then continue towards the middle of Waikiki on Kalakaua Ave for this block party of food vendors, all kinds of merchandise, carvings, clothing, and live entertainment. At some point we head in to International Market Place for a restroom break and head back out to continue our walk of booths and vendors. We end our walk buying some food before heading out of Waikiki. Enjoy!
