The Art of Azerbaijan (Part I)
The modern art of Azerbaijan is known in today's Russia much less than in Western European countries. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union the previous inter-republic culture ties were almost cut off and the works of the Azerbaijani artists had virtually no exhibition in Russia. At the same time, the New Wave of the 1980s had raised the Azerbaijani painting to a significant phenomenon in the world art. Apart from the widely known artists like Takhir Salakhov and Togrul Narimanbekov other painters arose who turned to different, greatly diverse subjects.
Nowadays the works of Azerbaijani artists seems to be remarkable and highly significant phenomenon in the world art. Undoubtedly, easel painting stand out sharply against the background. The present and centuries-old traditions, the western education and eastern luxury nostalgia, the knowledge of modern art trends and masterful grasp of the artistic skills worthy of the old masters intertwined in their paintings.

Azerbaijan - A Land of Magic Colors (Helicopter Footage)
PANTURAL presents
One of the world's most ancient nations - the nation of Azerbaijan - has the right to feel proud for its history, material and cultural monuments, literature, arts and music heritage.
Wonderful nature, climate, natural resources of the country produced a significant impact on artistic thinking and creation skills of Azerbaijani people as well. In spite of a long and difficult way undergone by different types of arts in Azerbaijan, they still represent a unity and provide outstanding opportunities for the creation of a full idea of fine arts of Azerbaijan. The folk arts of Azerbaijan are multi-colored, complete and rich, as its natural resources. The folk art is connected with daily life of people and daily life occupies a very special life in the fine arts as well. Folk arks cover a long period from ancient times to nowadays and including a variety of products from garments to housing goods and decoration.
Quite obviously, the style of life, aesthetic tastes, the national image and qualities, are strongly reflected in folk arts. One can easily come across numerous wonderful models of Azerbaijani folk arts in the world's largest museums. The pieces of arts created by the skillful hands of Tabriz, Nakhichevan, Gandja, Gazakh, Guba, Naku, Shaki, Shamakhi and Kharabakh can be found in large museum collections of Victoria and Albert of London, Louvers of Paris, Metropoliten of Vashington and Vienna, Rome, Berlin, Istanbul, Tehran, Cairo museums.
The history of folk arts in Azerbaijan has a long and interesting history. Works of art made from metal extracted from Nakhichevan, Migachevir, Gadabay, Gandja and other places are approximately 5000 years old. Crockery, weapons and adornments found here are not historical facts alone, but valuable sources which testify the skills of the master.
Carpets, weaved by separate carpet-making schools of Azerbaijan (Guba, Baku, Shirvan, Gandja, Gazakh, Karabakh, Tabriz) in different periods, amaze people till nowadays. Most of them kept in well-known museums of the world.
Our national music has been developing along with literature since ancient times. For instance, mugam developed along with with Eastern poesy. Thus, singers, performed mugam, recited ghazals (a kind of poem) by Azerbaijan well-known poets as Nizami, Khagani, Fuzuli, Nasimi. Poetic forms of national poesy like Garayli, divani, tadjnis along with goshma, mukhammas, ustadnama, gafilband are ashugs' favor forms.

The kamancha tarhu uses a violin string-set for 4 string models, and viola string set for 5 string models. Tuning is either fifths (identical to violin) or a mixture of fourths and fifths. As with other tarhus, the kamancha tarhu will still work effectively with the strings tuned down a long way from their intended violin tuning. Most common 4 string tuning is (highest to lowest) c,g,c,g, (or d,a,d,a) and most common 5 string tuning c,g,c,g,c (or d,a,d,a,d) .

The National Conservatoire's library has been provided with all necessary literature, and all necessary conditions have been created in classrooms supplied with required equipment to ensure high-level education process. Every condition has been created in the sports hall to conduct various competitions.

President Ilham Aliyev and Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva met with the academic team of the National Conservatoire and eminent persons of culture.
The Head of State congratulated them on the inauguration of the new building of the National Conservatoire of Azerbaijan.
Mehriban Aliyeva underscored that persons of culture have always been a focus of attention in Azerbaijan, and development of culture, in particular the national music, has been the priority matter:
First of all, I would like to congratulate all of you on the inauguration of the new building of the National Conservatoire. No doubt, this is a great event. I'm sure it will greatly contribute to the development of our national culture. A young generation will grow up in these conditions and benefit from the experience of teachers like you.
Today I want to, first of all, express my deep respect for you -- our teachers. Every meeting and conversation with you is of great value to me. Today we have heard many words. They all are true. But I want to note that all of you are persons of art. Moreover, you are great personalities. As the President underscored, you being loyal to the best traditions of the people of Azerbaijan, your lifestyle and modesty is of great importance both for the youth and also for the Azerbaijani society in general. Therefore, I wish you sound health and long life so that universal values -- as they are of paramount importance today - and humanistic values continue to live. From my side, I'm always ready to do my best. I wish you all sound health.
At the end of the event, President Ilham Aliyev was presented national music instruments tar and kamancha.
Mugham was performed at the ceremony by young musicians.
Shirvanshahs Palace, Baku old city,Azerbaijan -Şirvanşahlar Sarayı
It's must visit place in Baku Old city. The ticket cost 15 AZN per person for foreigner . It's converted to museum and the old utensils, jewellery and other art is on display. From inside of the place there is very clear view of the Caspian sea.
''The Palace of the Shirvanshahs (Azerbaijani: Şirvanşahlar Sarayı, Persian: کاخ شروانشاهان) is a 15th-century palace built by the Shirvanshahs and described by UNESCO as one of the pearls of Azerbaijan's architecture. It is located in the Inner City of Baku,[1] Azerbaijan and, together with the Maiden Tower, forms an ensemble of historic monuments inscribed under the UNESCO World Heritage List of Historical Monuments.[2] The complex contains the main building of the palace, Divanhane, the burial-vaults, the shah's mosque with a minaret, Seyid Yahya Bakuvi's mausoleum (the so-called mausoleum of the dervish), south of the palace, a portal in the east, Murad's gate, a reservoir and the remnants of a bath house.[3] Earlier, there was an ancient mosque, next to the mausoleum. There are still ruins of the bath and the lamb, belong to the west of the tomb.[4]
In the past, the palace was surrounded by a wall with towers and, thus, served as the inner stronghold of the Baku fortress. Despite the fact that at the present time no traces of this wall have survived on the surface, as early as the 1920s, the remains of apparently the foundations of the tower and the part of the wall connected with it could be distinguished in the north-eastern side of the palace.[5]
There are no inscriptions survived on the palace itself. Therefore, the time of its construction is determined by the dates in the inscriptions on the architectural monuments, which refer to the complex of the palace. Such two inscriptions were completely preserved only on the tomb and minaret of the Shah's mosque. There is a name of the ruler who ordered to establish these buildings in both inscriptions is the – Shirvan Khalil I (years of rule 1417–1462). As time of construction – 839 (1435/36) was marked on the tomb, 845 (1441/42) on the minaret of the Shah's mosque.[6]
The burial vault, the palace and the mosque are built of the same material, the grating and masonry of the stone are the same.[7]
The complex used to occupy more place. There were rooms for court servants and services.[8]
The main buildings of the ensemble were built at different times. Despite this fact, these buildings are linked by unity of scale, by rhythm and proportionality of the basic architectural forms – cubic volumes of buildings, domes, portraits. The builders of the ensemble relied on the traditions of the Shirvan-Absheron architectural school.[6]
In 1964, the palace complex was declared a museum-preserve and taken under the protection of the state. In 2000, this ensemble, along with the fortified walls of the historic part of the city and the Maiden Tower, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.[9][10]
The palace is depicted on the obverse of the Azerbaijani 10,000 manat banknote of 1994–2006[11] and of the 10 new manat banknote issued since 2006.[12]''

Ancient Monuments Of Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is one of the oldest spots of civilization, a country with a rich and ancient history. A rich cultural heritage has been created on its territory over the span of many millenniums, contributing to the treasure-house of World culture. The discovery of Azykh cave, the earliest habitation of man to be found in the world, and a number of habitations of the ancient Stone Age prove that Azerbaijan enters the zone of anthropoids to reveal the birthplace of mankind.
