The Czech Republic Beyond Prague
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | Few travelers venture beyond Prague to experience the Czech Republic's many cultural riches and offbeat delights. We'll get started with a whirlwind of Art Nouveau, local pub music, stinky-cheese tasting, river rafting, and peat bathing in places like Olomouc, Moravský Krumlov, Třeboň, and Konopiště. We'll also tour a remarkable memorial to the Holocaust in Terezín, and the charming castle town of Český Krumlov.

A very nice fluid head tripod I picked up for only US$77 (JIE YANG fluid head tripod from tomtop.com). And lastly the lenses I used were the kit 14-42, and a 25mm f1.7.

Vratislav Novak; Metronome, Prague, Praha
Check for more information:
pragueart.info
wikipedia.org:
The Metronome is a giant, functional metronome in Letná Park, overlooking the Vltava River and the city center of Prague. It was erected in 1991, on the plinth left vacant by the destruction in 1962 of an enormous monument to former Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. The 75-foot-tall (23 m) Metronome is now mostly a scenic vista and a meeting place for young people. It was designed by international artist Vratislav Novak.
atlasobscura.com:
The Czech Republic is a nation still in its infancy. It has only been twenty years since the Velvet Revolution peacefully ended communism and split Slovakia from the Czech Republic. Despite the bloodless divide, the time under Soviet communism is still burned into the minds of many Czechs and Slovaks, and in Prague, a constant reminder ticks away every day over the Bohemian capitol.
In 1991, Vratislav Novák designed and constructed a massive metronome on Letna Hill in Prague. Although the area is better known for its vibrant beer garden overlooking the river, Novák erected a permanent reminder in the area to memorialize the Czech struggles under communism.
Cutting a wide path, the hand of the red metronome is over 75 feet long and is easily visible from the city and bridges below. While the metronome itself symbolizes the long struggle against Soviet control, the location of the metronome is a symbol as well.
Prior to the metronome’s construction, the site atop Letna Hill was home to the largest statue of Stalin in the world. For seven years, a 17,000-ton statue of the Soviet strongman loomed over Prague, watching every move of the citizenry and quietly keeping control over the Soviet satellite.
After his death, Nikita Khrushchev took control of the Soviet Union and distanced himself from Stalin. In a symbolic act of the changing of the guard, Khrushchev ordered the destruction of the statue by dynamite, blasting the former dictator off of his perch over Prague. The explosion of Stalin’s statue led to rejoicing in the streets, along with another 30 years of communism in Czechoslovakia.
The metronome is a steady reminder of the legacy left by Stalin and communism in Prague. It is still flanked by two unlit torches, the only remnant of the statue that once existed there. Today, the area around the metronome is visited by tourists and used by many locals for skateboarding and picnics in the nearby park and beer garden. The area provides some of the best views of one of Europe’s most charming cities.
pragueoffthemap.com:
Once the site of the largest Stalin statue in the world, the metronome now inhabits the former dictators post from which he once looked out over the city. Located in Letná Park, the Prague metronome and the area surrounding it is a concrete playground. Skateboarders and other tricksters like to use the space for their acrobatics. Others simply drink beer and dangle their legs over the precipice, gazing out at Prague from their perch. The Prague metronome really has some of the best views of the city.

Graphite Production
Graphite is classified as a semi metal. It can be referred to as black led for its dark soft look and texture. Graphite is formed in metamorphic rock by heat and pressure while other types of rock like igneous rock are formed by volcanoes and meteorites hitting the earth. Battery grade graphite consists of hexagonally shaped crystalline flakes which are flat. The graphite used in pencils occurs as veins in rock formations that resemble a coal mine for the large quantity of graphite that is extracted from these type of deposits

I WANT THE TRAVEL LIFESTYLE BUT...
In this video, I respond to a subscriber's question about wanting the nomad life, but it's a 'big step' to leave everything and travel. What are your thoughts?
My thoughts:
Yes it's never EASY to leave everything behind. The more you got goin on, the harder it is to leave. It comes down to HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT. I think it boils down to that.
You are thinking about the travel life already... You can either, think about it forever, or FIND YOUR EXCUSE and GO FOR IT!
And everyone has their own story, situation and timing... But there will NEVER be the PERFECT time!! There will come a time where you get sick and tired enough of not being satisfied, and going for a CHANGE will be easier than the DIFFICULTY and or STRESS that comes with leaving things behind, and possibly burning bridges.
BUT!!!!! Riley! You are over simplifying it!! It's not that easy!!
Yes, I know, because you need to be able to EARN ONLINE FIRST!!!
So the first step is GET YOUR ASS HUSTLING NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS TO BUILD AN ONLINE INCOME!!
How?
1) Freelance gigs (can make your first$1000 in 90 days on Upwork if you do it right)
2) Work your current job remotely
3) Build an Online Business (takes time to build up! 6mo to a year at least, part-time) (
So.... don't complain that it's hard to leave everything behind if you are not even earning online yet! First things first!!
And when you are making some relatively steady money from the laptop, maybe you will have more confidence to TAKE THAT LEAP!
YES. Some things DO take a LEAP OF FAITH!
“Do I need to be earning online before I quit my job?” — Everyone’s situation is different! How much savings do you have? Me and Park saved up $10,000 and quit to move to Chiang Mai BEFORE MAKING OUR FIRST DOLLAR ONLINE.
The thinking was, it would buy us 6-months of full-time work on our online hustles in Chiang Mai… and we got lucky that something worked out! Now am I recommending you do the same? And is our result typical? No, but I’m just saying what I did. The safest bet obviously would be to be making $1000/mo online first before moving to Chiang Mai or something.
But sometimes you have to say FUCK SAFE because you are that itchy for a change and you just gotta, as we say, ‘GET THE F*CK OUTTA HERE!’ Lol.
Worst comes to worst, your online hustle isn’t making money, so you go back to a JOB! I know many digital nomads who have done that! And what did they get for trying? Just an amazing 6 months or a year having tons of fun and experiencing a shit ton!So that’s my rant…. It’s never easy to make a change in life… Whether thats a break-up, changing jobs, changing schools, moving to a new city, etc!Making a Career-Move towards one of Internet Entrepreneurship is just the same! It’s a big career move. Not for the scared. It’s not a question to whether you want it bad enough. I think you do. I can’t think of a more flexible career. It’s a question are you determined enough to put in the work nights and weekends to build up your business to make it happen. - Riley in Starbucks in Bangkok
