Pen Cayetano wants to share the Garifuna culture with Belizeans this nineteenth. The renowned artist is opening an exhibition called ‘Legacy’ at his gallery in Dangriga. The collection of paintings will show different aspect of the Garifuna people. Cayetano told us about what you can expect from these new pieces in his latest art show.

Robert Sydney Reyes may not be well known among Belizeans at home, but his works of art will endure in the National Art Collection for years to come. That’s because four of his paintings were today inducted into the compendium of Belize’s patrimony. The donation was made through the Governor General’s office on behalf of Reyes, a friend and former student of Sr. Colville Young. A brief ceremony was held this afternoon at the Bliss Center for Performing Arts where the pieces are currently on display at the Belisle Art Gallery. Director of the Museum of Belize, Alexis Salazar, tells us more.

Belize Cultural Celebrations Series Vol. 1: Garifuna Settlement Day (Yurumein)

The Belize Cultural Celebrations Series comprises of educational posters and short videos produced by the National Institute of Culture and History through the Institute for Social and Cultural Research. Yurumein is the first in the series, featuring images, video footage and interviews that were collected by a team of cultural activists. The materials were gathered from the communities of Libertad, Belize City, Hopkins, Dangriga and Punta Gorda on November 19th, 2013.

Palacio's intent is to accomplish his teaching art credential and return one day to his native country and motivate the underprivileged artistic youth by giving them an opportunity to excel in art intentionally. During this interview, Greg P reveals detailed passages of his life growing up in Dangriga, Belize. He expands of what it was like getting a strict education from a British standard education in the former colony. Then, he fast forwards to his experience trying to survive in a dual society where he is trying to assimilate the American lifestyle while staying Garifuna.
