Sunderbans- Sudhanyakhali Watch Tower!
The Forest department has made some Watch Towers, a several feet high and around 500 meter long platform in dense forest from where tourists would get a spectacular view of Sundarban with its wild lives. The watch tower has a pond where wild life comes to drink water during Summer increasing sighting probability.
Most of the tigers are sighted from this tower. Some other wildlife like axis deers, wild boars and crocodiles may also be seen from this watch tower

Best Weekend getaway & adventure tours into Sundarbans and some pristine Bengal Beaches from Kolkata(Calcutta), West Bengal, India!!
The Bhagabatpur Crocodile Project in the Sundarban has, of late, emerged as an important tourist destination of the Sundarbans. This is the only crocodile project in West Bengal and is located adjacent to the Lothian Island and on the bank of the Saptamukhi Estuary.
The dense mangrove forest at the confluence of Saptamukhi river system has immense natural beauty to attract tourist all throughout the year. This hatchery of estuarine crocodile and Batagur Baska species of tortoise in the project has crocodiles of varying ages.
Though this place is easily accessible through Namkhana, one can also visit it from Sajnekhali.
About Sundarban national park:
The Sundarbans is a natural region comprising southern Bangladesh and a small part in Eastern India. It is the largest single block of tidal halophytic mangrove forest in the world. The Sundarbans covers approximately 10,000 square kilometer’s (3,900 sq. mi) most of which is in Bangladesh with the remainder in India.
These are some places in Sundarban in west bengal of many Interests :
Sajnekhali Watch Tower – This watch tower gives out a beautiful panoramic view of the Sundarbans. At the same time, you can also watch out for tigers, deer as well as other animals. It is a popular tourist destination and the forest office situated in there can issue permission so as to visit other places in the Sundarbans. There is also a hall that has the choicest display of of various photographs of birds and animals alike shot by the forest officials.
Dobanki Watch Tower – You will have one of the most unique experiences in this watch tower as it provides a unique experience of viewing wildlife from its canopy walk. This particular canopy walk is measured half a kilometre long along with a height of almost 20 ft above the ground. There is even a sweet water pond where Brahmini Kites as well as Cheetal Deers are very often come here for a drink as well as tigers.
Burirdabri Watch Tower – The watch tower in the Burirdabri camp is known to be famous along with a mud walk and mangrove cage trail that leads to a viewpoint known as Rajmongal View Point. The small animals that are found in hiding on the ground are snails as well as various types of crabs and molluscs that can be observed closely from the mud walk.
Bonnie Camp Watch Tower – The Bonnie Camp Watch Tower is known to be one of the most beautiful watch towers in the national park. The Bay of Bengal is nearby and normally takes around 6-7 hours to reach Sajnekhali with the help of a six cylinder boat. Like all other watch towers of the Sundarbans, a sweet water pond is also found here where various fauna and birds frequent throughout the day.
Kalash Deep and Lothian Island – Kalash Deep or Kalash Island is located on the banks of the Bay of Bengal. The Kalash camp lying near the Kalash beach are important tourist destinations. Although these are well protected with a fence of 10 feet high and a 20 feet trench, it is still not enough to prevent tigers from venturing into the beach due to the sweet water pond located in there.
Gangasagar – Gangasagar is known to be a charming tourist destination which attracts both pilgrims as well as tourists alike. It is located on an island in the Sundarbans and offers a pure view of an unspoilt beach on the estuary of the Ganges River. It offers access to pristine silver sand, a clear blue sky and along with a calm sea; it’s a haven for tourists who would like to spend their weekend in tranquillity.
Sudhanyakhali Watch Tower provides a clear view of all the canals nearby. This watch tower is only 43kms from Canning.

Burirdabri is a very beautiful place in Sundarban, North 24 Pargana, West Bengal. From the watch tower of Burirdabri , Bangladesh Sundarban is visible.
Sundarbans National Park
Sunderbans national park is located at the South Eastern tip of the 24 Paraganas district in the state of West Bengal. It got its name from one of the mangrove plants known as Sundari (Heritiera Minor). The Sundarbans are a part of the world's largest delta formed by the rivers Ganges,Brahmaputra and Meghna. Sundarban is a vast area covering 4262 square kms in India alone, with a larger portion in Bangladesh. 2585 sq. kms of the Indian Sundarban forms the largest Tiger Reserve and National Park in India. The total area of the Indian part of the Sundarban forest, lying within the latitude between 21°13'-22°40' North and longitude 88°05'-89°06' East, is about 4,262 sq km, of which 2,125 sq km is occupied by mangrove forest across 56 islands and the balance is under water.
The park is surrounded by a buffer zone of 885 square kilometers. This also mainly consists of mangrove forests. The core area of the park has it's own natural boundaries with the river Matla on it's West, the river Haribhanga on it's East, with Netidhopani and Gosba in the North.
The four Sunderbans national parks have been lumped together as they all share common features of the estuarine mangrove ecosystem. The main attractions of the Sunderbans are the Tiger, of which the delta harbor large reptiles like the Monitor Lizard, Estuarine Crocodile and the Olive Ridley Turtle, for which there is a conservation programme in the Indian park. The Leopard, Indian Rhinoceros, Javan Rhinoceros, Swamp Deer, Hog Deer and Water Buffalo have all become locally extinct from the delta in recent decades.
