Tokyo Anime Museum
Did you know that most of our childhood cartoons were animated in Japan? The quality of Japanese animation is top notch and has been unmatched ever since. Sadly, the Suginami Animation Museum is often overlooked by tourists but if you want to go back to your childhood memories be ready to be amazed by finding traces of classic cartoons like Astroboy, Evangelion, Calimero, Gundam, Samurai Pizza Cats, Macron 1 and Voltron.
This video is a tribute to my childhood in Holland!
The most prominent exhibitions at Suginami are the giant wall of fame which showcases all the cartoons animated in Japan from the 1950s all the way up to the 2000s.
Right next to it you'll find famous Japanese animator desks and a massive popup of Evangelion and Bob from the Genie Family.
Though animation first came to Japan in the early 1900s, it didn't boom until the mid-century. In the 1970s, influential manga comic book artists such as Osamu Tezuka inspired a unique giant robot genre known as mecha, which focuses on detailed mechanical designs, complex sci-fi plots, and themes recalling Japan's nuclear past and the implications of technology on future humanity.
Starting with the likes of Tezuka's Astro Boy, the Tokyo Polytechnic University Suginami Animation Museum provides a comprehensive look into anime's past, present, and future, while also curating hands-on workshops, talks from industry professionals, and screenings in the museum theater.
Though smaller than the renowned (and incredibly difficult to reserve) Studio Ghibli Museum, Tokyo Polytechnic University Suginami Animation Museum is free to enter, and even offers an audio tour in English.

Ogikubo Suginami Anime Museum Tokyo
As it was a really rainy day, I decided to go for some inside activity and visited the Suginami Anime Museum in Tokyo. It is located in Okigubo and its webside with directions can be found at
Entrance is free, but getting there by bus/train from Shinjuku will cost you around 740 yen.
The museum is very small but well done. I especially liked the Anime & Manga Library that offers a wide variety of mangas and DVDs that you can 'rent' for free and watch/read right at the library. I was there on a Thursday and it filled up pretty much around 4pm.
Definitely a place worth visiting, if you like this sort of stuff. Good for a rainy day, too.
As far as editing is concerned, after updating my Adobe Premiere Trial version, I am now able to create 1080p 30fps sequences, but exporting them loss-free to the same format creates a 2GB+ filzesize, which youtube will not allow me to upload. Quite silly of them to promote 1080p HD vids but not allow 10 minute videos with this setting due to size. So this time, the 25fps conversion as a mp4 720p file made the quality look worse, but again - I am still learning ;)
I hope you enjoyed this video.
