This video footage was shot some six and a half hours after the 311 Mega-Earthquake of Richter Scale 9.0 hit the Sendai area in north-eastern Japan (Tōhoku). Despite the distance of 350 kilometres (220 miles), the prolonged earthquake was felt very strongly in Tokyo too, killing 7 people (as opposed to some 15,000 dead in Tōhoku region). Almost no service was available on railway lines including Tokyo Metro in and around Tokyo until the following morning. What few people who managed to get here (near Kinshichō station) to attend the Mahler 5 concert of a lifetime had no choice but to sleep in the hall (some on the floor, others in seats). An unforgettable experience!
