Switzerland, officially the Swiss Confederation, is a sovereign state situated in the confluence of western, central, and southern Europe. It is a federal republic composed of 26 cantons, with federal authorities seated in Bern. Switzerland is a landlocked country bordered by Italy to the south, France to the west, Germany to the north, and Austria and Liechtenstein to the east. It is geographically divided between the Alps, the Swiss Plateau and the Jura, spanning a total area of 41,285 km2 (15,940 sq mi). While the Alps the greater part of the territory, the Swiss population of approximately 8.5 million is concentrated mostly on the plateau, where the largest cities are located, among them the two global cities and economic centres of Zürich and Geneva.

The establishment of the Old Swiss Confederacy dates to the late medieval period, resulting from a series of military successes against Austria and Burgundy. Swiss independence from the Holy Roman Empire was formally recognized in the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. Since the Reformation of the 16th century, Switzerland has maintained a strong policy of armed neutrality; it has not fought an international since 1815 and did not join the United Nations until 2002. Nevertheless, it pursues an active foreign policy and is frequently involved in peace-building processes around the world. Switzerland is the birthplace of the Red Cross, one of the world's oldest and best known humanitarian organisations, and is home to numerous international organisations, including the second largest UN office. It is a founding member of the European Free Trade Association, but notably not part of the European Union, the European Economic Area or the Eurozone. However, it participates in the Schengen Area and the European Single Market through bilateral treaties.
Switzerland occupies the crossroads of Germanic and Romance Europe, as reflected in its four main linguistic and cultural regions: German, French, Italian and Romansh. Although the majority of the population are German-speaking, Swiss national identity is rooted in a common historical background, shared values such as federalism and direct democracy, and Alpine symbolism. Due to its linguistic diversity, Switzerland is known by a variety of native names: Schweiz Suisse (Italian); and Svizra (Romansh).[note 6] On coins and stamps, the Latin name – frequently shortened to Helvetia – is used instead of the four national languages.
Switzerland is one of the most developed countries in the world, with the highest nominal wealth per adult and the eighth-highest per capita gross domestic product. It ranks at or near the top in several international metrics, including economic competitiveness and human development. Zürich, Geneva and Basel have been ranked among the top ten cities in the world in terms of quality of life, with the first ranked second globally.

Ratha Yatra Zurich, Switzerland - 2019
Ratha Yatra, or the Festival of Chariots, is held throughout the world by devotees of Lord Jaganatha. The festival entails taking the deities of Jaganatha, Baladeva and Subhadra through the city in large chariots in order to bless inhabitants. Along the way, devotees sing and dance to attract the mercy of Jaganatha as they pull him throughout the city of Zurich, just as devotees do in Jaganatha Puri, a city on the east coast of India where Ratha Yatra has been held for thousands of years and is thus named after Jaganatha. Ratha Yatra was first brought out from India to the wider world by His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder-Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

We had one full day in Zurich, Switzerland, and I wanted to make the most of it by going on a Swiss food tour, eating as much food as possible, and walking around and seeing some of the most famou sights and attractions in the beautiful city of Zurich.
Here are all the details about everything you’ll find in this video:
Zürich, Switzerland
Café Henrici - To begin the day for Swiss breakfast, we stopped to have a cup of coffee, and also I wanted a croissant, but they were all out of the morning already, so I settled for a few small slices of bread. It was excellent.
Total price for 3 people - 24.40 CHF ($25.75)
Lindenhof Hill - This is a great place to get a view over Old Zurich, and it puts the city into perspective and helps you get your bearings, and the views are beautiful.
Swiss Chuchi - Thank you to Marcel for this recommendation. In Switzerland for a single day, I needed to eat one of the most well known of all Swiss food, cheese fondue. At Swiss Chuchi restaurant, we enjoyed both cheese fondue and raclette, both of which were excellent and the most cheese I’ve had in a single meal in a very long time.
Total price - 126 CHF ($132.98)
That included all I ate, and 2 other plates of food.
Grossmünster - This church is one of the most recognizable landmarks of Zurich. For a small fee, you can pay to climb to the top of the tower for an amazing view.
Price - 4 CHF ($4.22)
Lake Zurich - The city of Zurich is surrounds Lake Zurich, which is unbelievably clean and pure.
Kronenhalle Restaurant - This is one of the most legendary and classic restaurants in all of Zurich, Switzerland. I didn’t realized it was so expensive and so high end, but we decided to go for it anyway, because I was looking forward to trying their Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, the most well known of all Zurich Swiss food dishes consisting of thin sliced potato paired with veal stew. It’s quite a stunning dish and the version at Kronenhalle Restaurant was absolutely stunning.

Rheinfelder Bierhalle - To finish off this ultimate Swiss food tour of Zurich in a single day we went to Rheinfelder Bierhalle, a beer hall and restaurant in Zurich. I ordered their specialty, Jumbo Jumbo Cordon Bleu. Cordon bleu is another one of the Swiss food dishes you don’t want to miss when you’re in Zurich.

Twelve models practiced their runway walk just hours ahead of the start of the 2014 haute couture Chocolate Fashion Show in Zurich, which begins at 7pm CET on Thursday. Apart from one exception, the dress rehearsals did not involve the chocolate dresses, however, due to the potential of breaking delicate parts when taking off the garments.
Salon du Chocolat, the annual chocolate trade fair, came up with the idea of bringing together fashion designers and chocolatiers, which has now spread to several countries.
Apart from the fashion show, chocolate lovers are also invited to participate in chocolate recipe demonstrations at the event among various other workshops.

TASTING SWISS CHOCOLATE IN ZURICH

We started the day in Zurich, Switzerland, walking the streets of old town and tasting Swiss chocolate. In the afternoon we caught a train to Bern and admired some beautiful architecture. After a very full day we arrived to the village of Murren high in the Swiss Alps.

Zurich by Viking River Cruise Tours
Before boarding our Viking River Cruise ship, Viking Vidar, by Basel, we spent two nights in Zurich. The morning after we arrived from the states, we were treated with a cable car ride up on top of a hill overlooking the surrounding city and lake areas. The long body of water seen from a distance is Zurich Lake although it looks like a river. The lake is about 3 miles wide and 26 miles long.
After the Hill, we then went on a guided walking tour of the city. It was the start of Carnevale and there were groups of street marching bands all over the city. Some have taken sweet spots in the alleyways while others were out in the open next to the river or lake. It was a noisy city the day we were given a city tour. Beautiful Zurich even on a fickle drizzly day.
