Lake District Walk - Old Man Of Coniston- Brim Fell- Swirl How
A short video taken during a family visit to the Lake district in September 2017. We had picked a bad time to visit with most days of the fortnight being very wet and windy.
One afternoon at 2pm my son,Shaun, decided he wanted to do at least one of the bigger wainwrights while he was there and persuaded me to take him up the Old man of Coniston. I hadnt planned to use any of this footage for a youtube video and indeed i didnt really film a great deal as i spent most of the time just talking and catching up with my son who had left home earlier in the year.
However after a bit of encouragement from my lad ive put together what i did film and cobbled together a bit of a film. Enjoy and thanks for watching!

great carrs, swirl how, brim fell, the old man of coniston & grey friar
we parked at the three shire stones on wrynose pass. we took the path opposite and headed up towards little carrs, then onto great carrs. from there we went to swirl how, brim fell and the old man of Coniston. it truly is a beautiful ridge walk. we then walked back to brim fell and cut across to grey friar so we didn't need to peak the summits again. at grey friar we took in the scafells in all their glory. This walk was brilliant and one we really enjoyed.

Situated in the stunning village of Coniston we enjoyed a fabulous weekend away with friends at a beautiful Victorian home-from-home called Holmthwaite.
We enjoyed exploring just a little snippet of the wonders of the Lake District with all our families and lots of downtime in the house.
A big thank you to for being such a great place to stay and to all my fabulous friends and family for making it one weekend to remember! x

Coniston to Levers Water to Swirl How to Rough Crags
In June of 2016, Rob Trafford and John Williams ascended toward Coniston Old Man in the Lake District. Our route choices took us to Levers Water, up to Levers Hawse, to Great Howe Crags and the summit of Swirl How, down Great Carrs and Little Carrs, along West Side Edge and Rough Craggs, to Little Langdale. Splendiferous!

Coniston Old Man via Swirl How, Southern Fells, Cumbria ©
A strenuous 6 mile circular walk which involves scrambling and includes 3 of Wainwright's southern fells. The route starts at Coniston youth hostel and heads up past Levers Water to Prison band and from there up to the summit of Swirl How (802m). From here it follows the ridge path, which has great views of the Isle of Man to the west and Coniston water to the east, over Brim Fell (796m) to the summit of the Old Man of Coniston (803m). The route then heads down past the remains of old slate and copper mines back to the starting point. The route is challenging, requiring good navigation and adequate clothing.
Wherever you go stay safe, check the weather, plan ahead, let people know where you are going, take maps & compass with your gps and follow the countryside code.

Lake District UK Geocaching - Old Man Of Coniston
The Old Man of Coniston is a fell in the Furness Fells in the English Lake District. It is 2,634 feet (803 m) high, and lies to the west of the village of Coniston and the lake of the same name, Coniston Water. The fell is sometimes known by the alternate name of Coniston Old Man, or simply The Old Man.
We walked this fell on 12th August 2012, the day after the UK's 5th MEGA event held in Cartmel in Cumbria. A great day, a great fell and some great caches along the way. The music is an instrumental version of High And Dry by Radiohead.
