Steam Adventure - With SNCF 241-A-65 into the Seeland
This movie shows a ride with the coal powered SNCF 241-A-65 steam engine from Stein-Säckingen at the Rhine River to Aarberg in the center of the Swiss Seeland region. The train runs upgrade through the Frick Valley to Bözberg Pass, then downgrade to Brugg and onwards to Othmarsingen on the busy Zurich - Bern mainline. From there, the train runs via Aarau - Olten to Oensingen, where the tender is replenished with water. At the foot of the Jura Mountains, the engine is speeding via Solothurn to Biel-Bienne. After switching the engine to the other end, it runs tender first to Lyss on the Biel - Bern secondary line. Once again, the engine is moved to the other side of the train to pull us onwards to Aarberg, a short 10km run from Lyss. Here our journey ends. The video was shot on September 4th, 2015.
Enjoy watching this great ride with Europe's largest coal fired fast train steam engine still in operation.
Scenes from Chur, Switzerland
Chur is the capital of the Swiss canton of Graubünden and lies in the northern part of the canton. Chur is situated at the right shore of the Rhine River and is known as the oldest town of Switzerland.
Chur is situated at a height of 1,949 ft (594 m) above sea-level, on the right bank of the Plessur torrent, just as it issues from the Schanfigg valley, and about a mile above its junction with the Rhine, almost entirely surrounded by the Alps, overshadowed by the Mittenberg (east) and Pizokel (south), hills that guard the entrance to the deep-cut Schanfigg valley.

Breathtaking Bernina Express: An extraordinary train experience in Switzerland (7/9)
The Bernina Railway is a single track metre gauge railway line forming part of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB). It links the spa resort of St. Moritz, in the Canton of Grisons/Graubünden, Switzerland, with the town of Tirano, located right next to the Swiss border in Italy, via the 2253metres/7600feet high Bernina Pass. It also ranks as the highest adhesion railway in the Alps, and - with inclines of up to 7% - as one of the steepest adhesion railways in the world.
On 7 July 2008, the Bernina Railway and the Albula Railway, which also forms part of the RhB, were recorded in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, under the name Rhaetian Railway in the Albula / Bernina Landscapes. The whole site is regarded as a cross border joint Swiss-Italian heritage area.
The most famous trains operating on the Bernina Railway are known as the Bernina Express. The Bernina Express is an express train connecting Chur in Switzerland with Poschiavo and Tirano in Italy, by crossing the Swiss Alps from north to south. The trip on the Bernina Express through this World Heritage Site is a 4 hour railway journey across 196 bridges, through 55 tunnels and across the Bernina Pass on the highest point at 2,253 metres in altitude. The line followed by Switzerland's Bernina Express is a masterpiece of engineering works. Its combination with the surrounding landscape is what constitutes its recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
This video shows the spectacular arrival at Ospizio Bernina. The station lies at 2253 metres / 7391 feet above sea level, making it the hightest-altitude station on the Rhaetian Railway. The hospice from which the place-name is derived also marks the linguistic boundary between the southern, Italian-speaking valley of Puschlav and the Engadin region, where the inhabitants speak Romansh (or more correctly Rhaeto-Romanic) and German. The station building and the mountain inn date from around 1925.
The waters to the north of the Bernina Pass naturally flow via the Danube and into the Black Sea, while the waters to the south of the pass end up in the river Po and the Adriatic. Efforts began in 1911 to change the natural order somewhat, and trap the water in artificial lakes such as Lago Bianco and Lej Nair, whose names refer to different colours: light for Lago Bianco, dark for Lej Nair.

FOUR VALLEYS - DISENTIS TO FILSUR - THE MOST SPECTACULAR RAILWAYS OF EUROPE
At Disentis in the valley of the Vorder Rhein, the Rhatische Bahn makes an end on junction with the Furka-Oberalp railway where its locomotives take over such famous trains as the Glacier Express. Descending the fertile valley and cutting through a gorge with unusual geological formations, it comes to Reichenau, the junction for the line to St.Moritz, before speeding along the double track into Chur, the capital of Canton Graubunden. Here, it connects with the Federal Railways with which it runs almost parallel to Landquart where the Rhatische Bahn's most important workshops are situated. The line then swings up the valley of the Landquart river to the well known resort of Klosters before beginning a punishing climb towards Davos from where the line continues down the valley of the Landwasser, crossing an impressive viaduct on the way, to the junction with the St. Moritz line at Filisur.

Ruinaulta - Die Rheinschlucht
Bernina Railway Oct 2014: 03 along Lago Bianco towards Alp Grüm
Having left Bernina Hospitz station, the highest on the RhB, the train now follows the largest of the Bernina lakes. Due to its getting much glacial silt, the lake is called Lago Bianco (White Lake). In its present size, it is actually a reservoir on top of the pass, with dams on both sides. It drains to the Adriatic Sea, whereas the two smaller lakes to the north drain to the Black Sea via the Inn river. On this section of the Bernina pass, the train takes another route than the road.
At the end of the video, the train gets into one of the many snow sheds that facilitate keeping the line open during the winter. At this date, however, there is almost no snow yet to the south of the Engadin valley.
