Tahiti Road Trip - car rental in French Polynesia - Plage du Taharuu
Renting a car in Tahiti, is quit easy and straight forward. Most major hotels on the island would have the car rental company pick you up from the hotel, once you are done with the car you can just leave the keys at your hotel. We found that to be really helpful.
Taharuu Beach is on Tahiti's southern coast in Papara and characterized by its volcanic black sands, leafy green palm trees and its width. This beach is large, meaning there's plenty of room to spread out and soak up the sun, and it's framed by deep blue water and frothy white waves. Popular with families, locals and tourists, this beach also is ideal swimming conditions and may even see some surfers working on their skills. There's also an on-site snack bar.

Top 10 Travel Destinations in Tahiti Island French Polynesia
1.La Plage de Maui
La plage de Maui,is one of the only white sand beaches on the island, drawing tourists who seek the comfort of something a little more familiar. It lines Tahiti’s south coast, around PK6, a bit over half an hour away from Papeete. The dazzling piece of sand borders the Bay of Tapueraha, the deepest and most splendid natural harbour on Tahiti.
2.Fautaua Waterfall
Fautaua Waterfall is one of the most spectacular hiking destinations on Tahiti as it passes through beautiful jungle scenery with far-reaching views of the upper waterfall and surrounding mountains. Difficulties encountered on the hike include obtaining the necessary hiking permit, getting transportation to the starting point, avoiding hiking during times of rainy weather, dealing with heat and humidity, crossing a few portions of trail which have exposure, exercising extreme caution if checking out the natural pools above the waterfall, and being prepared for the potential of flash floods.
3.Papenoo Beach
Papenoo Beach (Chinaman's Bay) in Tahiti is an exposed beach and point break that has fairly consistent surf. Summer offers the optimum conditions for surfing. Offshore winds are from the south. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the optimum swell angle is from the north northeast. The beach break offers both left and right hand waves. Sometimes crowded. Beware of rips and sharks.
4.Plage du Taharuu
Papara Beach, also known as Plage de Taharuu – is one of the prettiest black sand beaches in Tahiti. It’s long, it’s wide, and the black sand is scorching hot under the afternoon sun!
5.Papeete
Papeete is the capital of French Polynesia, an overseas country of France in the Pacific Ocean. The commune of Papeete is located on the island of Tahiti, in the administrative subdivision of the Windward
6.Moorea
Mo'orea is a South Pacific island, part of French Polynesia's Society Islands archipelago. It's known for its jagged volcanic mountains and sandy beaches. In the north, Mount Rotui overlooks picturesque Ōpūnohu Bay and the settlements around Cook's Bay. Inland, hiking trails wind through rainforest on the slopes of Mount Tohivea. The Belvedere Lookout has panoramic views of the island’s peaks and Tahiti beyond.
7.Museum of Tahiti
The Museum of Tahiti and the Islands (or Musée de Tahiti et des Îles) represents one of the world’s most important repositories of cultural and natural studies concerning the Polynesian archipelago. It is divided into 4 sections covering nature and anthropology, habitations and artifacts, social and religious life and finally the history of French Polynesia.
8.Vaipahi Gardens
The Vaipahi Gardens located along Tahiti’s south coast in the district of Mataiea 49 kilometers (30 miles) from Papeete are rich in cultural heritage and abundant in natural beauty.
9.Surfing
Tahiti is one of the most beautiful and exotic places in the Pacific. It is an amazing place to visit for anyone but an incredible one for a surfer. The island really is a paradise, tropical clear water, great beaches and a laid back island lifestyle.
10.James Norman Hall Museum
James Norman Hall, a World War I army pilot, made a fortuitous friendship with Charles Nordhoff shortly after the war's end, and the pair began collaborating on novels together. In 1920, the writers moved to Tahiti together and wrote several novels including the celebrated Mutiny on the Bounty. This museum, which was opened by Hall's family, contains a number of the author's belongings. You can also take a short staff-led tour of the house, which is an exact reproduction of Hall's home.
Recent visitors said bookworms and history lovers will enjoy this attraction, adding that the guides are helpful and knowledgeable. Travelers were also impressed by the verdant and colorful gardens that surround the home.
