Hello guys, now we are in Phrae – a small province in North of Thailand, a town which is so interesting and fascinating that I’d like you to come and visit.
- Museum of Khum Chao Luang Muang Phrae (Phrae Provincial Governor's House)
The Museum of Khum Chao Luang Muang Phrae was built in 1892 (B.E. 2435) by the last lord of Phrae, Chao Luang Piriyathapawong. It is the architecture in the early King Rama V period which combined Thai and European architecture, called gingerbread style.
- Wat Phrathat Doi Leng Scenic Point
Doi Leng is the mountaintop from which we can see the most wonderful sunrise and sunset scenery in Phrae, and in addition, it is the place where Phra That Doi Leng, one of the thousand-year Phra That (Buddha relic) in Phrae, is located.
- Ban Thung Hong, Phrae
Mor Hom is the fabric which is dyed from the indigo plant called Hom plant. It is worn by the local people popularly. Nowadays Thung Hong village is the biggest production and distribution of Mor Hom products in Thailand.
- Wat Phra That Cho Hae (the Royal Temple)
We are still in Mueangphrae district, and here we are atWat Phra That Cho Hae (the Royal Temple) which is known as an auspicious temple for people born in the Year of the Tiger.
- Wat Sung Men, Sung Men District
Wat Sung Men is the Palm Leaf Manuscript Conservation Institute and it is well-known as a place collecting the most ancient palm leaf manuscripts in the world. Here you will see the elegant Ubosot (ordination hall) called Lanna style. Besides, Sung Men district is the popular place for production and distribution of various kinds of high quality teak furniture.
- Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri, Denchai District
Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri features beautiful architectures mixed the Buddhist arts from Lanna and neighboring countries.
- Mae Chok Hot Spring, Wang Chin District
Mae Chok Hot Spring is a natural and mineral-rich hot spring which good for our skin and the average temperature is about 80ºC. There is also the holy place-Phra That Khuay Poo, one of the thousand-year temples located here in Wang Chin district.
- Ban Don Sai, Long District
At Wat Sri Don Kham you not only ring the explosive case bell but also visit a thousand –year Phra That Huay Aor and the local museum located in the temple area.
- Ban Pin Railway Station, Long District
One place you shouldn’t miss when you visit Long district is Ban Pin Railway Station because it is a unique railway station in Thailand designed like Bavarian timbre-frame house.
- Tham Pha Nang Khoi Cave, Rong Kwang District
There is a stalagmite shaped like a woman holding a small child and waiting for her husband inside the cave, so it has become the name of the cave.
- Lilit Phra Lor Park, Song District
Inside the park, you will see the monument of Phra Lor, Phra Puen and Phra Paeng leaning against each other and there is also an imitation of the cave of the old man (Poo Chao Saming Prai). So the tourists can learn about the great Thai literature here.
- Kham San Gallery, Nong Muang Khai District
Teak wood carving is a dying art form. There is not much education to sustain it. Phrae used to be the Teak Capital of Thailand and here in Kham San Gallery you’ll find a great example of Buddha inspired wood carvings. Kham San Gallery is a gallery and studio of Buddhist Art Sculptures. It is one of the most impressive teak galleries in Thailand.
Not only these tourist attractions you can find in Phrae but there are also the local people life styles and other beautiful natural attractions or other interesting places reflecting the histories, architectures.

Kaewwanna, Phrae
Kaewwanna Natural Indigo was founded 17 years ago as the first studio and learning centre on natural indigo dyeing for the province, aiming to revive and preserve the traditional art of natural indigo dyeing which was gradually disappearing because of the popularity of synthetic dyes. The studio has been successful in not only reviving the tradition, but also in supporting a local community to grow indigo plants in the forest, which promotes forest conservation. It has created jobs for elder weavers and villagers, and has recently engaged an indigo-making community in Lao PDR in the production so that a hundred year old indigo forest in that area will be preserved.

The History of Phrae Province
The History of Phrae Province
It is assumed that Phrae Province or Phon Nakorn in the past is located along the plain of the Yom river. The town boundary is cleary visible by the city wall and the moat which is the one leveled ridge with 7 meters high, 15 meters wide and 4,000 meters long around the city. Its shape is like the conch shell, one of the eight holy things of the Brahminism. It is used for defending the enemy and also the flood.
From the legend of Wat Luang, the old temple in Phrae, there are two heroes who establish the city. They are Phoo Payapon or Poh Khun Luang Pon and Phaya Muangchai. Phoo Payapon has relocated to Phrae with Tailue and Tai Khuen people from Chiang Saen, Chaiburi and Wieng Pang Kham. They renovated the old city and renew the higher wall in 1371 BD and named the city Phon Nakorn. Later, in the age of Khmer, the name of the city changed to Kosai Nakorn or Wieng Kosai which means satin or prae in Thai language. The pronunciation of the city name then distorted to Phrae, which is the recent name of the province.
Another hero is Phaya Muangchai, who is the great and wise warrior. He fought with Burmese army and saved the city for many times. He was named The Great Warrior of the Three Kingdom. There was the inheritance of the ruler of Phare province continuously until the reign of King Rama V.
From that time, Prince Piriyathappawong was the ruler of the city under the control of Praya Chaiyaboon, the first governor of Phrae.

Visiting M.R (Mom Rajawongse) Kukrit's Heritage Home - former Prime Minister of Thailand
M.R (Mom Rajawongse) Kukrit's House is a heritage museum on South Sathon Road in downtown Bangkok, Thailand, dedicated to the former Prime Minister of Thailand M R Kukrit Pramoj (1911–1995).
It consists of five teak houses, the earliest of which is more than 100 years old. The reception hall was used for public purposes (receptions and banquets) and for religious ceremonies. A raised platform in the center was designed for performing traditional Thai Khon dance, with ornate masks for the dancers displayed on the shelves.[1]
The homes contain artifacts, such as a Chinese altar given by Deng Xiaoping as a gift and old Buddhist scriptures.[1]
As a traditional Thai home, the garden plays a key role in the design of Kukrit's house. Two low walls on either side of the garden connect the main hall in front to the houses in the rear of the property.[1]
In the dining area, two vases are displayed, gifts to Kukrit from Mao Zedong of China. There are many tributes displaying the late prime minister's affection for dogs, including paintings.[1]
Left of the reception room are the living, reading and music rooms; on the right, a room which is used as a shrine for Buddhist prayer.

The boat-filled Chao Phraya River feeds its network of canals, flowing past the Rattanakosin royal district, home to the opulent Grand Palace and its sacred Emerald Buddha temple.
Nearby is Wat Pho with its enormous reclining Buddha and, on the opposite shore, Wat Arun with its steep steps and Khmer-style spire.

Saturday Evening Market Nan Thailand August 2014
Saturday Evening Market Nan Thailand August 2014. Saturday evening market in the city of Nan used to be located at so called Walking Street, Sumon Thewarat Road, near Wat Hua Wiang Tai temple [วัดหัวเวียงใต้]. This is the market you can see on the video. In 2015 it was moved near Wat Phumin temple, where, in my opinion, it lost its charm. From what I’ve heard it was moved because of some financial issues.
At the market you can try a variety of Thai and Northern-Thai dishes, buy some clothes and all you can expect from a market in Thailand.
Little-known Nan is a very peaceful province in Northern Thailand in the remote valley of Nan River. It is about 600 kilometers from Bangkok. It borders with Uttardit, Phrae and Payao provinces and Sainyabuli Province of Laos. The province is subdivided in 15 districts: Mueang Nan, Mae Charim, Ban Luang, Wiang Sa, Na Noi, Thung Chang, Pua, Tha Wang Pha, Ma Muen, Chaing Klang, Santi Suk, Bo Kluea, Chaolem Phra Kiat, Phu Piang, and Song Khwae.
There are many interesting tourists sites - King of Nan's Teak House, Nan National Museum, Wat Phumin and more. Nan is famous for its longboat racing festival held every year in September/October.

Driving in Thailand can be a little bit tricky and dangerous for a western driver at first. However, after some kilometers on the roads of Nong Bua Lamphu, Loei, Nan (where I usually drive) and other provinces and adjusting to the driving habits of the locals it may become an interesting activity. If you want to get off the beaten track and admire Thailand’s natural beauty, renting a car or a motorbike will be the thing to do. Even when driving in such places like Bangkok, Phuket or Pattaya you can discover a different perspective and that’s what traveling is really about, isn’t it?
I record my driving movies in Thailand mostly using G1W camera (bought from eBay) and 2014 GoPro Hero. I recommend both as they are great value for money providing quite nice and clear footage for affordable price.
Usually in Thailand I drive 2014 Isuzu D-Max truck. You can also find my movies recorded while driving Yamaha Fino and riding my bicycle.
Remember, when you drive a car or a motorbike in Thailand you may need an international driving license. Actually Thai would be the best, but international should do the job. You can of course pay 200 baht to a police officer and get away with not having one, but it will be much more complicated and unpleasant when you’re in an accident. Probably the insurance company won’t cover the expenses and you’ll have to pay from your own pocket.
