Thai Food Market! What Is a Thai Food Market Like? Thai Recipe | JoysThaiFood
See a walk-thru of a Thai food Market in Thailand!
Here, we walk through a night market with a variety of Thai foods to make your mouth water! There are many snack foods like pork balls on a stick because many Thais don't want to eat healthy, they just want something that fills them up. So, they might have a piece of fried chicken and ball of sticky rice, or something like that just to make them full. Som tam and sticky rice works too! As does som tam and mango dessert! Getting hungry here...

Southern Thailand is home to an amazing array of Thai curry, and in my opinion, Nakhon Si Thammarat (นครศรีธรรมราช) is one of the best eating provinces in Southern Thailand. The province is also known for generally having some of Thailand’s spiciest, fiercest dishes.
Khao Gaeng Sudyod Saphan Yao (ครัวป้าจง ข้าวแกงสุดยอดสะพานยาว) is one restaurant you don’t want to miss when you’re in Nakhon Si Thammarat. I took an unofficial count of the different Thai dishes they had prepared on the day I ate here, and it was over 75, and they had a few more dishes on the side, like side dips and salads that I forgot to cook. The display of Thai curry is enough to make cry tears of joy.
Here are the Thai curry dishes I ordered:
Gaeng taypo hua pla (แกงเทโพหัวปลา) - fish head curry with coconut milk
Gaeng khua hoy kom (แกงคั่วหอยขม) - Thai river snails curry
Yam pla chichang (ยำปลาฉิ้งฉ้าง) - green mango and dried fish salad
Yam boo kaem (ยำปูเค็ม) - raw rice paddy crab salad with sour tamarind
Gaeng khua gai baan (แกงคั่วไก่บ้าน) - spicy free range chicken curry
Total price - 290 THB ($8.51)
I think it was a pretty amazing deal for Ying and I to both eat a big huge meal and we were stuffed afterwards. An amazing choice of Southern Thai food, and good prices as well.

What to do on Koh Tao ( travel guide )
What to do on Koh Tao ( travel guide )
We will show you the top things to do on Koh Tao.
1 Take a diving course
Koh Tao is known as the diving hotspot of Thailand. It is also one of the cheapest places on earth to get your diving license. This small island has a lot of very good diving schools to choose from. And all of them have the same pricing for their courses. You can get your open water diving license in only 4 days for 11 000 Baht. Free-diving courses are also available on the island. So…. Take a diving course, You won’t regret it.
2 Go snorkelling around the island.
Snorkelling is also one of our favourite activities on the island. And if you’re not diving this may be a good way to still experience the underwater world of Koh Tao. Snorkelling can be done almost anywhere on the island, and there are a lot of beautiful bays to choose from. Our personal favourite places to go snorkelling are : Shark bay, Tanote bay, Banana Rock and Hing Wong Bay.
So give snorkelling a go, it is a fun and cheap way to experience the underwater world of Koh Tao
3 Take a taxi boat around the island.
Taking a taxi boat around the island is a fun way to see al the bays and beaches of Koh Tao.
A taxi boat on Koh Tao is a classic long tail boat and has a real authentic charm to it.
You can also do this as part of a snorkelling tour for 750 to 1400 baht.
Such a tour may or may not include a visit to Koh Nang Yuan, which is a very tiny island near Koh Tao.
4 Take a Thai cooking class.
We’ve been in Thailand a couple of times already, this is the first time we took a Thai cooking class. ( its a shame we know ). Thailand has a lot to offer
when it comes to very tasty and delicious food. So we decided to take a class with Joy, she is an amazing chef. We also made a video of that cooking class, click on the card above if you want to check it out
5 Check out all the amazing viewpoints.
Koh Tao also has some amazing viewpoints to behold. It can be a very fun activity to check them al out in a day. Since the island is so small you can easily get to see most of them in a day only.
6 Check out the Queen’s Cabaret.
If you have never been in Thailand before this is a must do. Visit the Queen’s cabaret in Sairee on Koh Tao. You may ask yourself.. What is a Cabaret?…. A cabaret is a playback dancing show performed by ladyboys. It is really amazing to see how well practiced those dances are! There’s also no entree fee for the show. Show there is daily at 22 pm and requires only the purchase of 1 drink.

Thailand Food Availability - Cheese, Meat, Butter
Just to show you more food that is available in Thailand at one of the supermarkets (Makro) in case you are curious. This selection is typical of a Makro store located in a tourist district where many restaurants make Pizza and other foreign favorites.
Foods shown in video:
Meats - pepperoni, ham, salami
Cheese - provolone, cottage, cheddar, mozzarella, feta
Butter - New Zealand, Australia
So, if you're wondering if you could come to Thailand and live because you didn't know if some foods you regularly eat are available, they are probably available. All the basic foods anyway. We have more videos like this showing fruit, the foreign section of the market, and of course the alcohol selection.

Massaman Curry
Easy to Thai cooking with Joy
Grandma's Massaman Curry in Ayutthaya | Food Travel Vlog 4
Massaman curry is one of the most well known Thai dishes… but it’s not often my favorite dish… but then Grandma made it for me:
So like I mentioned, Thai massaman curry is usually not my favorite dish in Thailand - mainly because it’s usually prepared quite sweet, and it’s also usually quite oily. However, it is one of the most famous dishes in Thailand, and a food that many people love - in fact - a few years back, CNN.com named it as one of the best Thai dishes, or foods, in the entire world!
But anyways, Ying and I were in Ayutthaya filming for the Thai food TV documentary, and one day we went over to Grandma’s house (it was the house of a Grandma of a friend of someone on our TV filming crew) - so it was really cool to be able to film, and eat, at a local home. Ayutthaya is not just a city, but it’s a province in Thailand, so we weren’t right in Ayutthaya town, but were about 30 km outside of the town in a smaller town known as Ban Phaen (บ้านแพน). As soon as we arrived, and I saw the view of the home overlooking the calm water, I was excited.
Our first step was to go to Ban Phaen Market (ตลาดบ้านแพน), which was just about a 10 minute walk from the house. I went along with Grandma’s daughter to the market to find all the ingredients we needed to make an authentic recipes for Thai massaman curry. Grandma, formerly sold massaman curry and other curries at the market in Ayutthaya, but she hadn’t sold in many years. She knew many original and authentic Ayutthaya recipes, included one for massaman chicken.
After buying all the ingredients and spices we needed for the chicken massaman curry recipe, we then headed back home and started cooking. The first step was to prepare the curry paste (เครื่องแกงมัสมั่น) - which included chopping and roasted a bunch of different spices and herbs like shallots, garlic, galangal, dry chili, kaffir lime peel, and fingerroot (among many more things which you’ll see in the video). Then we used those roasted ingredients to pound a beautiful massaman curry paste. Next, we boiled chicken with peanuts and simmered it on low heat. In the meantime, we took the massaman curry paste and cooked it along with thick coconut cream until it turned into a beautiful, almost gravy like, sauce. We then added the coconut paste mixture to the chicken, threw in a bunch more spices like Siam cardamom and bay leaves, and simmered the massaman curry (แกงมัสมั่นไก่).
Here’s something I didn’t know (and the reason there was already a full post of massaman chicken curry cooked and ready when we arrived in the morning): massaman is better the next day, and it should be cooked one day, left to set, and eaten the next day. So in order to film and eat all in one day, Grandma had cooked a pot the previous day, so we could eat it the same day.
On this day, not only did I have an amazing time and a local Thai cultural experience, but I definitely gained a new appreciation for Thai massaman curry. It’s a complex dish, one that’s often shortcutted these days, but if made correctly can be very delicious. Massaman curry (แกงมัสมั่นไก่) is a blend of cultures, a fusion of Thai ingredients and Persian / Middle Eastern spices, all blended together in a harmony.
Grandma made an authentic, no-shortcuts, recipe for massaman curry, an original Ayutthaya dish. It was so much better than just about every other massaman dish I had ever had previously - you just can hardly find the home-cooked quality at any restaurant as you would find at Grandma’s house.
It was a wonderful day, a great cultural experience, and marvelous food!
