Historic ospreys in Kielder ringed.
Tree climbing rangers clambered up a tall Sitka spruce to pay a house call on an historic brood of ospreys. They have ringed two chicks born to proud and record breaking parents in Kielder Water & Forest Park.
The nest is the second in the 62,000 hectare (155,000 acre) Northumbrian
wilderness, but it makes Kielder the only place in England for over 170 years to have two osprey families at the same time.
Until now all the observations of the nest had been made from a distance
as the Forestry Commission was keen not to disturb the birds. Now it can be revealed that two birds were found. Kielder's other nest has produced a healthy chick.

My Last Fast Motorcycle Ride in the UK
First let me clarify - fast is a relative term. I know what speeds we reached - slow for the Dragon (eternally grateful, lol) but fast for me (on a bike ;D)... on with the story:
After dropping the rented Harley off at Riders in Bridgwater, rode pillion home on Dragon's Vulcan Elvis... ride was somewhat leisurely at first, then after Bristol John realized it was getting late and he began making up for lost time =:0
Just about the time I started wondering what would happen if my abdominal muscles gave out and I would fall backward off the bike on the highway (I *really* don't trust sissy bars), the nail in the rear tire got spat out and the air escaped - very controlled manner, no danger, just a weird shimmy sensation to me - leaving Elvis with a very very flat rear tire. Dragon slowed down and pulled off in a safe spot, assistance was called, and a really friendly tow-truck driver arrived to load Elvis up, give us all a ride home, and share a coffee. :)
The hole was eventually patched Dragon-style and tire pumped up - held air very well. Learned lots. :)
Apologies for the vid quality - so much to see, hard to keep focus on anything for more than a few seconds at a time before something else would catch my eye thanks to my short attention spa-- hey, look, a sheep!!!! ;)
