“Open Gardens”: Showing off your home garden to the public.
With over 50 members in Oshu, the “Open Garden Oshu” association has been organized, with 21 members opening their gardens to the public.
Let’s take a look at the garden of the association’s president, Ms. Hiroko Oikawa.
Ms. Hiroko Oikawa is the president of the “Open Garden Oshu” association.
Her garden is quite large, with an area of 1.3 hectares.
It is divided into seven zones including one that contains subdued colors
and another modeled on traditional Japanese-style gardens.
She has named the garden SHIKI-NO-NIWA “HIRO GARDEN.”
“I’ve liked flowers ever since I was young. I’ve tried different things and realized that building my own garden would be the most fun.”
The garden spreads out in three dimensions.
“Starting in spring, the greens get deeper and change with each season, so I hope that people can enjoy viewing the garden as each season passes.”
Ms. Oikawa started the “Open Garden Oshu” Association in 1990.
“Oshu has a wealth of variety. Each garden reflects the character of the person who creates it. There is a certain appeal in enjoying the various personalities.”
The garden is one’s own universe. She never thought it difficult to take care of such a large garden. Rather, that is what makes it so enjoyable, she says positively.
“I hope people will look at the lovely individual gardens during each season.”
This sign marks the gardens of “Open Garden Oshu” members.
These are being voluntarily opened to the public, so be sure to mind your manners when visiting.
