Iceland 2009 Day 4 (Part 3 of 4) in HD - The Westmann Islands
(HD version) We visited Haimaey in the Westmann Islands, a six minute flight across from the mainland. A coach trip around the island visiting the crater of the volcano Eldfell that erupted in 1973, visiting houses that were buried by ash and admiring the puffin colonies. There are now about 4000 people that live in the town of Haimaey. Had a boat trip around the island of Haimaey, explored a few caves and then flew back to the mainland. The music is by 'Dilerious?', Glow In The Dark.

ICELAND VLOG #13 | FRIENDS IN REYKJAVIK
Me and my friends have travelled to Iceland and are travelling the south coast of Iceland! We met each other five years ago in college and have stayed close friends ever since then. As one of us wanted to visit Iceland, we decided to all go with her!
We started the trip in Reykjavik, where it was very cold! We stayed in a very cute and cosy Airbnb, very close to the city centre:
The currency was 130 ICK - 1 euro at the time we arrived, but be aware, Iceland is pretty expensive. Bonus is the cheapest supermarket there, but at Kronan you have a bigger assortment. However, because we were with 7 people, we could easily share the costs.
In the evening we wanted to go for dinner in Reykjavik, but when we saw the prices of the food (20 euros for a pizza), we decided to cave and go to subway (which was really good though).
The rest of the evening we spent in an English pub and at the airbnb playing cards and having fun. Loved it!
Keep watching for my next vlogs!

Icelandic beer spa brews up relaxing baths
(4 Aug 2017) LEADIN:
Forget bubble baths, how about beer baths?
Iceland recently opened its first beer spa. Visitors soak in 40-degree bubbling beer, yeast and hops.
STORYLINE:
The tiny Icelandic village of Arskogssandur, around 400 kilometres northeast of Reykjavik, is home to the country's oldest working microbrewery.
But since June, it's had a new neighbour - the volcanic country's first beer spa.
Bjorbodin Spa houses seven indoor beer tubs, they're large enough to fit two people each. It is for adults only.
But don't try drinking it - beer baths are warmed to 40 degrees-Celsius (100 degrees Fahrenheit) meaning most of the alcohol evaporates.
Soffia Sigurdasdottir is Bjorbodin Spa's head beautician. She claims there are many benefits to being submerged in warm beer.
In the beer baths we use fresh water from our mountains, young beer, brewed yeast and hops, she says.
The yeast and the young beer is specially rich and has high level of almost the whole range of vitamin B, which is revitalising for skin and hair.
And the hops have high levels of anti-oxidants, which are really good for the skin as well as have a good effect on the PH of your body.
Bathtubs are equipped with a tap of Kaldi, the local larger produced at the brewery next door.
Spa visitor Thorsteinn Ragnarsson is a business entrepreneur from the nearby city of Akureyri.
It's a very new experience for me, he says.
I have never thought about beer as something to bathe in. I've always thought about beer just as something to drink. And then I heard about the benefits of the beer bathing and I just had to try it out.
Beer spas are particularly popular in the Czech Republic, where there is a rich tradition of beer breweries and accompanying spas.
Another visitor, Dana Antonsdottir is a worker from a nearby village.
I feel very relaxed, the first thing, she says.
And I don't know how to put words on it, it's soft and relaxed. Like yeah.
It's claimed the effect on the skin is best enhanced by not showering off the liquid until some hours later.
After soaking in the tub, guests are sent to a relaxation room for around 25 minutes to let the liquids soak in.
But the spa recommends waiting several hours before showering.
A single bath is priced at 6,900 Icelandic kroner (approx. $65 USD). A couple's bath costs 13,000 Icelandic kroner (approx. $123 USD).

Eldhraun Lava Field, Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, Reynisfjara
In every country around the world, you will find the attractions that will make you more eager to know about the country and visit every corner or it. When it comes to Iceland, these are some of the destinations we stopped by in this trip and which are considered from the most known touristic attractions.
Iceland is known as a Nordic Island Country in the North Atlantic, with Reykjavík being the capital of the country and at the same time the largest city having the highest population number. Iceland is active through both ways: volcanically and geologically. The interior consists of a plateau characterized by sand and lava fields, mountains, and glaciers, while many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands.
Even from its name Iceland, the first impression that one will receive is that this is a cold country for one to visit. Iceland is warmed by the Gulf Stream and it has a temperate climate, despite the high latitude just outside the Arctic Circle, this high latitude keeps the summer days chilly, with most of the archipelago having a tundra climate.
Like any other country that you might get the chance to visit at some point of your life, you should build a plan for the places which you will be visiting and the things which you will need to do before leaving, and we have been to some of those famous destinations during our trip.
Our first destination in this trip was Mýrdalsjökull Glacier. Mýrdalsjökull Glacier is an ice cap in the south of Iceland; located to the north of Vík í Mýrdal and to the east of the smaller ice cap Eyjafjallajökull, between these two glaciers there is Fimmvörðuháls pass. The icecap of the glacier covers an active volcano that is known as Katla that erupts usually every 40 to 80 years. At some point, travelers feared to take the road that was built just beside it fearing that the volcano might erupt at any moment.
The next place in Iceland where we stopped in order to visit and know more about it all was Haukadalur Valley Geyser. Haukadalur Valley lies to the north of Laugarvatn lake in the south of Iceland. This place is regarded as the home for some of the most famous sights in all of Iceland: the geysers and other geothermal features which has developed on the Laugarfjall rhyolitic dome. The word geyser came from Geysir which is one of the two biggest geysers along with Strokkur that are found in Haukadalur. Strokkur geyser is the one very dependable and erupts every 5 to 10 minutes, which is why people head for it in order to see it all. There are also more than 40 other smaller hot springs, mud pots and fumaroles near this place.
Completing the journey, we then reached Eldraun Lava Field which is the biggest lava flow in the world and which occurred during the lake eruption back in the late 1700's. This carries its history behind as well as the effects it had over different areas that does not only include Iceland but also the surrounding areas, making it one important destination for people to head to when it comes to visiting Iceland.
There are lots of places related to nature which could be found in Iceland that one would be interested to go to and check and to complete this list, we should also mention our visit to Seljalandstoss Waterfall that is located in the south region of Iceland. This waterfall drops 60 m and is part of the Seljalands River that has its origin in the volcano glacier Eyjafjallajökull. In addition to checking the whole thing from the front, one could also walk behind the waterfall and into the cave; it is really an exciting visit.
The last recommendation from us and the last place we intended to visit in Iceland was Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. Reynisfjara is the world's most famous black sand beach that is located in the South Coast of Iceland. People usually get astonished with this kind of beach whenever they come to walk by it, but they should always take care because the waves might reach out far more than they expect and that is the reason why they should never give their back to the beach and should always leave a good space that reaches 20 to 30 meters.
The Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach is one of those locations that appeared in Game of Thrones movie and that should bring us to mention some of those in Northern Ireland which also took part in the movie, which include Lough Neagh ( The Dark Hedges ( Toome Canal ( Cushendun Caves ( as well as some of the hotels, bars and restaurants in which the doors that appeared throughout the movie are located in.
This was an interesting trip filled with nature's creations in Iceland which we would recommend for anybody visiting the country soon.
The best locations around Ireland / Northern Ireland and further afield. A travel blog/vlog of the hidden treasures that are on our doorstep.

Colorado’s Historic Hot Springs Loop: Glenwood Springs
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, COLORADO:
A HOT SPOT ALONG THE HISTORIC COLORADO HOT SPRINGS LOOP
Glenwood Springs
Home to three easily accessible hot springs attractions, Glenwood Springs is a perfect starting point for touring Colorado’s Historic Hot Springs Loop.
• Glenwood Hot Springs. Colorado’s most famous hot springs resort opened in 1888, but even prior to that, the Ute Indians made seasonal pilgrimages to soak in the area’s healing waters. At 400 ft/122m long, Glenwood Hot Springs is considered the world’s largest mineral hot springs pool. The big pool hovers around 90°F/32°C, while the smaller Therapy Pool is closer to 104°F/40°C.The resort is also home to the Spa of the Rockies which uses mineral water from the source spring in many of its treatments. The 107-room Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge also harnesses geothermal energy for heating and snowmelt in the winter.
• Iron Mountain Hot Springs. At Iron Mountain Hot Springs 16 soaking pools are situated on a terraced hillside overlooking the Colorado River. The pools vary in size, shape and temperature, ranging from 99°F/37°C to 108°F/42°C. Some have river rock bottoms intended to stimulate reflexology points on the feet; all of them have spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and landscape. There’s also a cooler, freshwater family pool where children tend to gravitate; an attached, elevated jetted spa makes an ideal perch for parents to keep an eye on youngsters.
• Yampah Spa & Vapor Caves. Naturally created vapor caves like the ones in Glenwood Springs are an extremely rare phenomenon. Hot mineral water flows through channels in the cave floors at 125°F/52°C, the vapors are trapped in the caverns creating natural geothermal steam baths. The caves consist of three adjoining underground rock chambers with temperatures that average 111°F/43°C. The “rooms” are dimly lit and fitted with marble benches; an atmosphere that beckons visitors to relax and de-stress. Many people believe the mineral-rich steam has potent cleansing and detoxifying qualities.
