The Finger Lakes is a region of New York State. It's named for its series of long, thin lakes, and known for its vineyards. On Cayuga Lake, the city of Ithaca is home to Cornell University and its Johnson Museum of Art, showing ancient and modern art in an I.M. Pei–designed building. WHEN THE MERCURY PLUMMETS, IT'S TIME TO MAKE ICE WINE.
THE KEY IS TO PICK AND PRESS WHEN IT GETS FRIGID. GRAPES FROZEN ON THE VINE YIELD A SWEETER JUICE.
(NATS)
SOUNDBITE (English) Art Hunt, Hunt Country Vineyards owner:
When we press the frozen grapes w e get this incredibly complex juice, but only a small amount.
THE FINGER LAKES IN UPSTATE NEW YORK IS ONE OF THE FEW WINE-GROWING AREAS IN THE COUNTRY WITH THE WINTRY WEATHER NEEDED TO MAKE THE SWEET WINE.
SOME VINEYARDS LEAVE A SMALL PORTION OF GRAPES ON THE VINE BEYOND THE FALL HARVEST.
IT CAN BE RISKY. GRAPES OFTEN GET POACHED BY DEER AND BIRDS OR BLOWN DOWN.
BUT THE GAMBLE CAN PAY OFF.
SOUNDBITE (English) Art Hunt, Hunt Country Vineyards owner:
We have a range of flavors when we press the ice wine. It's going to be very complex. We have raisiny, honey, plummy flavors and a good crisp acidity.
(NATS)
ICE WINE IS BIG IN CANADA. BUT IT IS A NICHE MARKET IN THE U.S., WHERE BOTTLES SELL FOR $30 OR MORE.
SOUNDBITE Ralph Bonavist, All Star Wine & Spirits:
They sell year-round, for sure. But during the holiday time, ice wines seem to really ramp up in sales.
(NATS)
HARVEST AT THE HUNT COUNTRY VINEYARDS WAS ABOUT A MONTH LATER THAN USUAL THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF THE WARM WEATHER.
LATE HARVESTS CAN LEAD TO SMALLER YIELDS FOR VINEYARDS. BUT THEY STILL WERE ABLE TO OFFER A TASTE OF THE FROZEN HEART OF WINE COUNTRY.

Action News On The Road - Seneca Lake
There's so much to see and do on Seneca Lake that you might want to make a weekend of it and stay over night at the Glen Motor Inn. Watkins Glen hosted the first post world war II road race in the United States. And the original 6.6 mile circuit is on the National Register of Historic Places. For a taste of racing nostalgia you can stay at the Glen Motor Inn. It has been family owned and operated for 75 years and counted and has hosted numerous racing greats.
The Glen Motor Inn started in 1937 when my grandparents first got married and their house used to be on this location and travelers used to stop and my grandmother would rent out her bedroom to them for the night and cook breakfast for them in the morning, Nancy Franzese, Manager of Montage Italian Grill.
The Glen Motor Inn has 40 rooms each with balconies that offer beautiful views of Seneca Lake.
The only thing we overlook is Seneca Lake, Franzese said. We have a huge panoramic view from our dining room. Our motel rooms all have balconies facing the lake, our swimming pool overlooks the lake so you can do everything overlooking beautiful Seneca Lake here.
The Glen Motor Inn has hosted such famous racers as Jackie Stewart, Denis Hulme and even Paul Newman.
With over 50 wineries along it's shores, Seneca Lake is known as the Napa Valley of the East. The area draws over 600,000 visitors each year to sample the local 'juice.' Caywood Vineyards is located on the east side of Seneca Lake and offers daily tastings in their exquisitely renovated 1800's barn. Caywood overlooks the Finger Lake's largest vinifera vineyard and features a variety of wines from dry to sweet and even they even have a sparkling wine. Courtney and Tad Stewart are wine lovers visiting Seneca Lake.
We just had the sparkling wine and so far so good, everything's been delicious, Courtney said.
The Millenium was great, Tad said.
Caywood is owned by Pleasant Valley Wine Company the oldest winery in the Finger Lakes region.
Our next stop is Pompous Ass winery, and you don't have to be pompous to love their wines. The owners have a penchant for whimsy and believe that the name is the perfect parody for the wine culture believing that wine lovers shouldn't take themselves too seriously and should drink what tastes good.
We believe that everyone should enjoy the wine and not be intimidated perhaps, said Owner Donna Lucent. It's fun.
Our goal is to make a fun wine that is fun to drink and to enjoy, Owner Michael Lucent said.
Their wines range from sweet to dry and from beginner to wine connoisseur there's something for everyone. Caywood Vineyards and Pompus Ass are just two of the many wineries on Seneca Lake.
Seneca Lake is the largest of the finger lakes at almost 40 miles long. It stretches from Watkins Glen to Geneva and is known as the lake trout capital of the world. Let's check it out.
The outdoor adventurer delights in Seneca Lake and there is no better way to enjoy the sapphire waters than aboard the True Love.
The best thing about sailing on the True Love on Seneca Lake is you get to see Hector Falls, you see the beautiful vineyards all around and on top of there there are so many other things to do here, said Lisa Navone, owner of Schooner Excursions. Once you're done sailing on True Love, there are the breweries, the distilleries the wineries, Watkins Glen International the Watkins Glen State Park. There's just so much to do here for people of all ages.
Schooner excursions offers private charters and daily sightseeing sailings.
And a visit to Seneca Lake is not complete without stopping at Captain Bill's.
We operate two sailing vessels an hourly sightseeing vessel that sails every hour on the hour, said Mark Simiele, President of Captain Bills. We have a dinner vessel that sails for lunch, dinner and entertainment cruises, we have a full service water-front restaurant.
The dock-side restaurant features casual dining and specializes in seafood, steaks and ribs and offers a grand view of the marina.
Captain Bills and Schooner Excursions offer daily cruises so if you want more information just log on to WBNG.com or friend me on facebook and stay tuned as next week we're on the road right in our backyard in greater Binghamton.

The Finger Lakes of New York is the largest and most celebrated wine producing region in the Eastern United States. At its heart lies Keuka Lake, whose spectacular beauty and glacially-deposited soils inspired early grape cultivation and the birth of America's wine industry in 1860. Today, Keuka Lake's wineries craft some of the world's most beautifully balanced and vibrant wines, and we take equal pride in the warmth of our hospitality.

SUMMARY
=======
Sculpture is the branch of the visual arts that operates in three dimensions. It is one of the plastic arts. Durable sculptural processes originally used carving (the removal of material) and modelling (the addition of material, as clay), in stone, metal, ceramics, wood and other materials but, since Modernism, there has been an almost complete freedom of materials and process. A wide variety of materials may be worked by removal such as carving, assembled by welding or modelling, or molded or cast.
Sculpture in stone survives far better than works of art in perishable materials, and often represents the majority of the surviving works (other than pottery) from ancient cultures, though conversely traditions of sculpture in wood may have vanished almost entirely. However, most ancient sculpture was brightly painted, and this has been lost.Sculpture has been central in religious devotion in many cultures, and until recent centuries large sculptures, too expensive for private individuals to create, were usually an expression of religion or politics. Those cultures whose sculptures have survived in quantities include the cultures of the ancient Mediterranean, India and China, as well as many in Central and South America and Africa.
The Western tradition of sculpture began in ancient Greece, and Greece is widely seen as producing great masterpieces in the classical period. During the Middle Ages, Gothic sculpture represented the agonies and passions of the Christian faith. The revival of classical models in the Renaissance produced famous sculptures such as Michelangelo's David. Modernist sculpture moved away from traditional processes and the emphasis on the depiction of the human body, with the making of constructed sculpture, and the presentation of found objects as finished art works.
