Castle Dunbar East Lothian Scotland
Tour Scotland video of Dunbar Castle on ancestry visit to East Lothian. This is the remnants of one of the most mighty fortresses in Scotland, situated over the harbour of the town of Dunbar. The castle was a central defensive position of the Kings of Bernicia, an Anglian kingdom that took over from the British Kingdom of Bryneich. During the Early Middle Ages, Dunbar Castle was held by an Ealdorman owing homage to either the Kings at Bamburgh Castle, or latterly the Kings of York. In 678 Saint Wilfrid was imprisoned at Dunbar, following his expulsion from his see of York by Ecgfrith of Northumbria. Later, Dunbar was said to have been burnt by Kenneth MacAlpin, King of the Scots

News Techcology - THE BATTLE OF DUNBAR
Following Parliamentary victory in the first and the second Civil Wars, Charles I had been executed in January 1649 and a Commonwealth declared in England. In June 1650 his son landed in Scotland, where he was proclaimed King Charles II.In July the English Parliament, expecting Charles to initiate a Scottish led campaign for the English crown, launched a pre-emptive invasion of Scotland.Ten thousand men and 5,000 horses from the New Model Army was sent north under the command of Oliver Cromwell.Scottish forces numbering 25,000 were raised in response, under General Sir David Leslie. The New Model Army was transported by sea via the port of Dunbar.Having failed to bring Sir Leslie to battle they were forced by the weather, sickness and supply problems, to retire to Dunbar, first in early August and then again in late August.Sir Leslie, outnumbering the New Model two-to-one, saw his opportunity and marched around Dunbar to cut Cromwell's road connection to the border fortress of Berwick.Cromwell now finally had Leslie offering battle, but his New Model Army was at a severe disadvantage. Despite this, rather than evacuate by sea, Cromwell met the challenge, achieving what was arguably the most dramatic victory of the Civil Wars.Following the battle, Cromwell was able to march to Edinburgh where he eventually captured the capital following the defeat of the castle.Prisoners were force-marched towards England, to prevent any attempt at rescue, and imprisoned in Durham Cathedral.Conditions on the march and in the prison were terrible. Of the reported 6,000 prisoners, 5,000 were marched south resulting in the loss of 2,000, a further 1500 dying whilst in captivity and the majority of the survivors sold into slavery. More died as a result of capture than on the battlefield.

Mighty Tantallon Castle was built in the mid-1300s by a nobleman at the height of his power. In 1354, William Douglas came into possession of all his father's lands, as well as those of his uncle, 'the Good Sir James of Douglas', a close friend of King Robert the Bruce. The estates included the barony of North Berwick. In 1358 William was created Earl of Douglas, by which date the masons may already have begun to build his new stronghold.
In the 1380s the dynastic house of Douglas split into two branches, known as the 'Black' and the 'Red'. Tantallon passed to the junior line, the 'Red Douglases', earls of Angus. For the next 300 years, the earls of Angus held sway at the castle. They were one of the most powerful baronial families in Scotland.
During this period the castle endured three great sieges, in 1491, 1528 and 1651. The last, by Oliver Cromwell's army, resulted in such devastating destruction that the mighty medieval fortress was abandoned to the birds.

Mighty Tantallon Castle was built in the 1350's by a nobleman at the height of his power. In 1354, William Douglas came into possession of all his father's lands, as well as those of his uncle, the 'Good Sir James of Douglas', Robert the Bruce's great friend. The estates included the small but rich barony of North Berwick, east of Edinburgh. In 1358 William was created earl of Douglas, by which date the builders may already have been well advanced with his new fortress-residence of Tantallon.
In the 1380's, the house of Douglas split into two branches-known as the 'Black' and the 'Red'. Tantallon passed to the junior line, the 'Red Douglasas', earls of Angus. For the next 300 years the earls of Angus held sway at the castle, acting out their role as one of the most powerful baronial families in Scotland.
On three known occasions Tantallon became a fortress under siege. James IV besieged the castle in 1491, James V in 1528, and the English in 1651, during Oliver Cromwell's invasion. The first two were unsuccessful, but the damage wrought by Cromwell's heavy guns effectively brought to a close Tantallon's days as one of the mightiest castles in Scotland.
Scottish Places: St John's Tower, Ayr, Scotland - 1st Scottish Parliament
Comments welcome! On April 26, 1315, the first Parliament of Scotland was held in Ayr by Robert The Bruce at St.Johns Tower by the sea. Later, during cromwellian times, the town was used as a base and fortress for some of Oliver Cromwell's men. He built a huge wall around part of the town, most of which can still be seen today.

The Red Devil Incident – Lost
Lyrics: Dominic Lyne
Music: Mark Lyne
This track appears as a bonus track on The Red Devil Incident's Judas Inferno EP.
'Lost' honestly mirrored the emotional state I was in at the time of writing and recording Judas Inferno, and I truly thought it would be one of the last songs I ever wrote the lyrics for. Whilst recording material for the EP, I had the opportunity to work with a string quartet, something I had always dreamed of doing, and 'Lost' felt like the perfect track to record. My lyrical suicide note accompanied by an achievement of one of my life goals.

Tantallon Castle & Hailes Castle
Tantallon Castle & Hailes Castle, Scotland
Tantallon Castle is a mid-14th-century fortress, located 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) east of North Berwick, in East Lothian, Scotland. It sits atop a promontory opposite the Bass Rock, looking out onto the Firth of Forth. The last medieval curtain wall castle to be constructed in Scotland,Tantallon comprises a single wall blocking off the headland, with the other three sides naturally protected by sea cliffs.
Tantallon was built in the mid 14th century by William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas. It was passed to his illegitimate son, later created Earl of Angus, and despite several sieges, it remained the property of his descendants for much of its history. It was besieged by King James IV in 1491, and again by his successor James V in 1528, when extensive damage was done. Tantallon saw action in the First Bishops' War in 1639, and again during Oliver Cromwell's invasion of Scotland in 1651, when it was once more severely damaged. It was sold by the Douglases in 1699
Hailes Castle is a mainly 14th century castle about a mile and a half south west of East Linton, East Lothian, Scotland. This castle, which has a fine riverside setting, belonged to the Hepburn family during the most important centuries of its existence

1716. Sod it - why not carry on? [Empire; Total War DarthMod 8.0.1]
I'm playing on anyway, so may as well keep recording it. The north American campaign ramps up after the Iroquois declare war, and attacking Persia results in the surprise declaration of war from the Ottomans. Oblivious to the strategic changes on the map, the 5th (Irish) Brigade assault the Great Fortress of Fort Peshawar in Afghanistan, intent on clearing the way for their advance on Kabul.
Each army stack in this campaign is personalised to create what I think is a more interesting storyline to follow. Each stack is organised into and labelled as a unique brigade with its own General, and several units of foot comprise each regiment within the brigade. The brigade involved in this video is the 5th (Irish) Brigade which was formed in 1706 and during this video is comprised the 18th (Royal Irish) Regiment of Foot, 27th (Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot, 83rd (County of Dublin) Regiment of Foot, 86th (County Down) Regiment of Foot and the 87th (Royal Irish Fusiliers) Regiment of Foot. The brigade has seen service in the Mooghal and Persian campaigns.

ROBERT II of SCOTLAND - WikiVidi Documentary
Robert II reigned as King of Scots from 1371 to his death as the first monarch of the House of Stewart. He was the son of Walter Stewart, 6th High Steward of Scotland and of Marjorie Bruce, daughter of the Scottish king Robert the Bruce by his first wife Isabella of Mar. Edward Bruce, younger brother of Robert the Bruce, was named heir to the throne, but he died without legitimate children on 3 December 1318 in a battle near Dundalk in Ireland. Marjorie by this time had died in a riding accident – probably in 1317. Parliament decreed her infant son, Robert Stewart, as heir presumptive,, but this lapsed on 5 March 1324 on the birth of a son, David, to King Robert and his second wife, Elizabeth de Burgh. Robert Stewart inherited the title of High Steward of Scotland on his father's death on 9 April 1326, and a Parliament held in July 1326 confirmed the young Steward as heir should Prince David die without a successor. In 1329 King Robert I died and the six-year-old David succeeded t...
