Walking around the Danish Village in Solvang, California 【4K】
Yes, it's a Danish Village in Southern California. Solvang, which means Sunny Field in Danish, is a Danish Town located in Santa Ynez Valley. It is also known as the Danish Capital of America & Little Denmark. Solvang was founded by Danish-Americans in 1911 who moved from Midwest to California. Solvang is about 125 miles from Los Angeles and about 35 miles from Santa Barbara.

Santa Barbara courthouse + Solvang, CA, Danish Village.
Santa Barbara.
About 13,000 years ago Native Americans called the Chumash settled this area. By the time the Spanish Missionaries arrived, they were living all along the coast and on the Channel Islands. One hundred and fifty independent villages had a population of about 18,000. The people spoke different but related languages.
According to the Natural History Museum, This trade was made possible in part by the seagoing plank canoe, or tomol, which was invented about 2,000 years ago. In addition to the plank canoe, the Chumash are known for their fine basketry, their mysterious cave paintings and their money made from shells.
The Mission and El Presidio were settled at about the same time in the 1780s. They began an era of colonization and the Christianization of the native Chumash. The missions were secularized in the 1820s (when the ending almost fifty years of growth. Good sites to view are: The Mission site and the Historic Preservation Society site. The Spanish governed the area until 1822, when California became a Mexican territory until 1846 when Colonel John Fremont and his soldiers took Santa Barbara for the United States.
Solvang Danish Village.
Solvang, founded in 1911, began as a dream of three Danish immigrants: Reverend Benedict Nordentoft, Reverend J. M. Gregersen, and Professor P. P. Hornsyld. They planned to raise money to buy a large tract of land on the West Coast and subdivide it into plots for farms, homes, and a town for Danish immigrants. Profits from the sale of land would be used for building a Danish-style folk school. Also planned was a Lutheran church.
In January, 1911 the Danish-American Colony corporation bought almost 10,000 acres of prime land in the Santa Ynez Valley, California. The new colony was named “Solvang” (meaning sunny field) and glowing advertisements were placed in Danish-language newspapers. Early buyers, almost all Danish, came from California, the Midwest, and Denmark.

Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo, & Pismo Beach Vacation while vacationing
We decided to take a little vacation since we have nothing to do for the time being. We got a hotel in Pismo Beach, went to San Luis Obispo for some mineral spa action and then got some dinner at Yanagi in Santa Maria. The business is still in the back of our minds, but we're just living life as it happens, living well and laughing more.

4K City Walks: Leavenworth Washington - Bavarian Town - Virtual Walk Walking Treadmill Video takes us around a cute little german town near Seattle. We flew back to the States through Seattle, stayed with some friends, and then drove back towards Montana. However, we decided to meet some friends in the coolest german town in washington state, driving from Seattle to Leavenworth, Washington. It’s a town that has decided to market itself with a bavarian theme. It’s very quaint with lots of welcoming friendly residents. There are several breweries and wonderful restaurants and hotels and lots of other Leavenworth activities. We had great weather and downtown accommodations that made everything walkable. It is also known for its outdoor recreation things to do in Leavenworth. If you are interested in Leavenworth WA things to do check out the list of best things to do in Leavenworth on the blog here:

Wikipedia
Leavenworth is a city in Chelan County, Washington, United States. It is part of the Wenatchee−East Wenatchee Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,965 at the 2010 census. The entire town center is modeled on a Bavarian village as part of a civic initiative that began in the 1960s. The area is a major tourist destination during the wintertime.
The railroad construction was completed during the winter of 1893. Lafayette Lamb arrived in 1903 from Clinton, Iowa to build the second largest sawmill in Washington state.
Leavenworth was officially incorporated on September 5, 1906. A small timber community, it became the headquarters of the Great Northern Railway in the early 1900s. The railroad relocated to Wenatchee in the 1920s, greatly affecting Leavenworth's economy.
In 1962, the Project LIFE (Leavenworth Improvement For Everyone) Committee was formed in partnership with the University of Washington to investigate strategies to revitalize the struggling logging town. The theme town idea was created by two Seattle businessmen, Ted Price and Bob Rodgers, who had bought a failing cafe on Highway 2 in 1960. Price was chair of the Project LIFE tourism subcommittee, and in 1965 the pair led a trip to a Danish-themed town, Solvang, California, to build support for the idea. The first building to be remodeled in the Bavarian style was the Chikamin Hotel, which owner Jamie Peterson renamed the Edelweiss after the state flower of Bavaria.
Leavenworth is home to the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum, which opened in 1995 and contains more than 5,000 nutcrackers dating from prehistoric to modern. Leavenworth hosts an annual Oktoberfest celebration. Leavenworth's transformation into a theme town was inspired, and assisted, by Solvang, California. Later, the Washington town of Winthrop followed Leavenworth's example and adopted a Western town theme.
In November 2007, Good Morning America went to Leavenworth for Holiday Gifts for the Globe where GMA helped light up the town for the Christmas Holiday. Leavenworth was also named the Ultimate Holiday Town USA by A&E

OUR BIG SUR ADVENTURE (MORRO BAY, HEARST CASTLE, ELEPHANT SEALS, RAGGED POINT, BIXBY BRIDGE) | EP05
Join us again as we continue our journey along the Pacific Coast highway to San Francisco. In this leg of our journey, we depart from San Luis Obispo for a long day of driving the Big Sur all the way to Monterey, near Carmel-by-the-sea. We will stay for 2 nights at Monterey.
A summary of our day worth of adventures:
1) Gym training at Club 24, San Luis Obispo
2) Morro Bay for Brunch at Carla's Country Kitchen
3) Linn's Pies of Cambria
4) Hearst castle
5) Elephant seals
6) Ragged point
7) Los Padres Lookout
8) Fernwood Lodge (quick stop)
9) Bixby Bridge for Sunset
10) Drove to Monterey and checked into President's Inn
Firstly, we decide to go to the local gym at San Luis Obispo (Club 24) for a quick session, before driving to Morro Bay to have brunch at Carla's Country Kitchen. It was amazing. I highly recommend checking out Morro Bay.
During our drive along the Big Sur, we stumbled into Linn's Pies of Cambria. Definitely worth checking out. Cambria is an awesome little town. A place where I saw the largest cat of my life (28.5 Lbs!)
We drove through the Hearst Castle due to the crazy tourism there. So that wasn't worth our time. We continued on to the Elephant Seal lookout but we didn't see any elephant seals.
We continued our Big Sur drive up to Ragged Point. Amazing little stop with a great viewpoint. I highly recommend stopping here for an hour or so just to chill out.
We continued to the Los Padres lookout. It's nice. Definitely stop there for 10 minutes or so.
We had a quick look at Fernwood. Apparently there is a 1 year waiting list to get accommodation there. Crazy!
And lastly, we spent some time around the Bixby Bridge to watch the sunset. It was absolutely sensational. I hope you like the montage at the end. We drove into Monterey during the night and checked into the President's Inn. It was expensive. Around $200 USD per night!!
That was our day on the Big Sur. I hope this gives you some ideas for your own adventure on this incredible stretch of coastline.
