Sorrento Tour - What to see on a 1 day trip
How to get to Sorrento in Italy and what you can see on holiday in 1 day.
About Sorrento: Sorrento is a town overlooking the Bay of Naples in southern Italy.
It’s within sight of Mount Vesuvius, the only active volcano in mainland Europe.
A popular tourist destination, Sorrento is easy to reach from Naples airport by bus.
Or you can take the Circumvesuviana railway, passing Herculaneum and Pompeii on the way.
My video of what to see in Positano is here (3m10s):
My video of what to see in Capri is here (3m33s):
You can see my Pompeii tour video here (9m06s):
And you can see my Herculaneum tour video here (7m56s):
There are also ferries across the bay to Sorrento’s Marina Piccola.
You can catch ferries from here to the islands of Capri and Ischia as well as back to Naples .
Summer services also run around the Amalfi coastline.
Piazza Tasso, the main square, is a great place to stay.
We stayed at Maison d’Art overlooking the square. It’s a small B&B with friendly staff, free wif-fi AND free cake and a good breakfast.
The elegant cafés in Piazza Tasso, such as the Fauno Bar, are great places to relax and watch the world go by.
Piazza Tasso was named after the 16th century poet Torquato Tasso.
Sorrento is busy with traffic and people all day, even in April, when this film was shot.
and the locals like to weave through the narrow streets on motorbikes and scooters.
Of course, if you fancy something more sedate there are horse-drawn carriages for hire.
The fishing village , Marina Grande, is a great spot to relax away from the busy town centre.
Restaurants, homes and shops rise along the seafront, yet the village has maintained its rustic charm, original identity, and a sense of community.
There's a cottage industry approach toMarina Grande's ancient and primary source of survival, which is fishing.
Plenty of orange trees adorn Sorrento’s streets.
In fact, the cuisine here is big on citrus fruit as well as fish, pizza and pasta.
The varieties of lemon grown around Sorrento date back to Roman times and locals believe that their lemons are the best in the world.
The local liqueur, limoncello, is made from the zest of Sorrento lemons.
Lemons can grow impressively big in these parts too!
Of course, you can buy products from all over Italy here in Sorrento.
Glass is from the Venetian island of Murano, for example.
Or locally produced ceramics.
And Sorrento’s renowned inlaid woodwork.
There are also shops selling a huge variety of leather bags
and stylish shoes and sandals are available at good prices too.
Italy is a Catholic nation and, as you walk around Sorrento, you can see a number of shrines to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Before you leave Sorrento, be sure to check out the Valley of the Mills, just behind Piazza Tasso.
The mill area was isolated from the sea by the construction of Piazza Tasso, which raised the humidity in the valley to unbearable levels and caused the mills in the valley to be abandoned in 1866.
Finally, as day becomes evening you can experience the nighttime ritual of la passeggiata.
As Italians dress up for a gentle stroll through the main streets of the old town, it’s a chance to see and be seen.

Castle of Savignone, Savignone, Liguria, Italy, Europe
The castle of Savignone, currently in ruins, was once a fortress and manor house and the subject of battles and sieges. It is also a place of legends. Is stuck on a rock pudding - called Savignone Conglomerate - which dominates from a height of 150 meters above the town of Savignone, in the upper valley Scrivia. Its surrounding wall is strengthened to the south from the tower or semicircular rampart and naturally defended on the other side from the precipice. The tower located at the southern end, is massive, with a plant in horseshoe, ie straight inward and outward, circular walls. Partially intact in close-ups outside, where it opens a window on the top floor and a gunboat on the floor of the basement. This type fitted to support the assault of the first guns was similar to that of the four towers that flanked the nearby castle of Montoggio, in the restructuring of the latter by Sinibaldo Fieschi. In that case it was four corner towers, from the outside perimeter to curvilinear. Ways were taken from the latest innovations in Genoa those fortresses of the Bridle and Castelletto, in the fifteenth century. Inside this tower still has a stretch of scale and the remains of the hollows of the chimneys to first and second floors. The castle is built on two levels elevation, according to the embankment of the bastion and the underground rooms or basements connected to it, using the shelf of rock on which it stands. Above the center of the city walls is the courtyard, which corresponded to the square discovery where the soldiers gathered. It is accessed by a narrow staircase that comes from underground. In the northern part of the castle are the remains of the old house, with large windows at high altitude.
The underground is excavated in the pudding, and are divided into a large great room that was reserved for soldiers, closed on two sides by the massive wall perimeter, and a water cistern.
Last owners were the Marquis of Crosa Vergagni, heirs Fieschi marriage of Nicholas and Carlotta Fieschi, today the castle is propirietà municipal. On the south side is the tower, built on two levels; north the remains of the dwelling elegant, fitted to a great height of small windows; at the center, what remains of a pitch for the soldiers, reached via a narrow staircase coming from the basement. Today the castle is still in ruins; early summer 2013, the Municipality of Savignone started work for the safety and functional reuse of the castle; the restoration, which affects the vaulted room entrance, the court and the tower horseshoe, is intended not only to safeguard what remains of the ruin, both from the town and from that structure, but also redevelop the building making it to the same time suitable to host events, exhibitions and events, giving back to the citizens the symbol of the City. Distanced Guglielmo Spinola, Visconti Savignone swear allegiance to Genoa, on 7 May 1242. A few years later there is a change to the Fieschi, who own the castle for a longer period compared to all the other families. They are in possession of the castle and village of Savignone. The second was composed of houses who surrounded the central square; it was at a monastery monastic dependent Bishop of Lodi and not that of Tortona in this period becomes secondary. The dispute between the Bishops of Tortona and Lodi dated back to the appointment of Pope Martin I in June 883 in Lodi, ribatiga from Olrico, bishop of Milan, in December 1125, according to which the bishop of Lodi, Opizzone, went personally in monastery. Another bishop of Milan, as reported by Robaldo collections Gabotto and Lege reconfirmed that property against the demands of the bishop of Tortona. The complex was provided with a court on which overlooked the monks' cells, and that could accommodate 30 people and 40 horses. The convent was headed by a prior for the church, and for the hospital by another prelate, which happens to be based on the Ferreto, by an act of 16 November 1191, a certain Tedisio. Near the village was the chapel of St. Rocco. To these were added the villas scattered settlements, another hospital in Vallecalda on the passage of the street for the Oltregiogo passing through the imperial fiefs, which it crossed the Apennines to the current pace of Our Lady of Victory. This position, closing the road for Oltregiogo Genovese, who was passing through the Imperial Feud, Savignone was in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries a strategic role, and many of his villagers moved to Genoa activating various businesses.

Cobbler Girl (1955)
Chiswick Eyot, London.
Panoramic L/S of the river Themes - its banks, boats, trees and buildings in the background. M/S of several moored boats. Cut to a L/S of a woman sitting on the deck of a white boat, painting. C/U shot of the woman's shoe covered in pearls and embroidery - very pretty.
Ginny Brown, self-made shoe maker (cobbler) from California (USA, United States of America) came to London with her husband, an actor and producer Phil Brown. They bought the boat 'Mayflower' and turned it into a floating home.
Mrs. Brown became famous for her shoe designs when Hollywood stars like Zsa Zsa Gabor, Vivien Leigh, Rita Hayworth and many others started ordering shoes from her. She is self-taught shoe designer but her first love is painting.
Several shots of Mrs. Brown working on different shoes. For one shoe, she is engraving a golden leaf onto the leather. For another, she glues the sole on. Some shoes take her five hours to make, some as many days... - says the voiceover.
C/U shots of several models of Mrs. Brown's footwear designs. The first is a purple, discreetly embroidered, eastern style shoe. The second is a sandal inspired by Roman laced footwear. It has pink sides covered in shiny stones, and white laces tying the sandal to the foot. The third is beautifully embroidered black shoe very low cut on the front. Follows a very bold design - a sole with the strapping at the back and a stud at the front. The last is a light brown ankle boot laced from the toes upwards with lovely golden pearl embroidery. None of Mrs. Brown's designs have high heels but none lack elegance.

Италия. Красивые козочки и козлы из Трамонти.Italy.Beautiful goat and goats from Tramonti.

CIAO BELLA | OT Vlog
Just got back from an amazing few days in Sorrento, Italy. I managed to wrap 4 days into one vlog! It's a Non-horsey one Vlog but still nice to share these times with you guys to give an overall picture.
The last day I made a boo boo and shot it in the wrong frame, so for anyone wondering why the sides are black, that's why! Also how insane is this wine cellar!!!!
I forgot to mention on this vlog though my mini victory! I use to freak out before getting on planes and also trains! Happy to say I didn't feel any worry as I had set my mind up for success! This mindset stuff really works :D
Enjoy!

Italy Part 4. Positano to Siena, Italy - Yoga with a beautiful view and 10 000 000 stairs
Here we will show you the million steps we take to get anywhere in beautiful Positano. Followed by our long road trip up north to Chianti wine region in Tuscany!
Overnight among Rocky Peaks (Velebit)
The wind blew all night long, again. We should get used to the constant sound of strong mountain winds through the day and night. This is a completely different world. Habitat to skilful climbers - herds of chamois and a perfect place for a winter stay for the brown bear. Sun-warmed stone often elicit viper sunbathing, we should be extremely cautious. Unlike the game here we are moving extremely difficult. Through thousands of years the snow and ice erosion formed the typical long scars on limestone. The rocks are full of grooves with extremely sharp edges. Cracks in the sharp rocks quickly lose all the water that rains bring ... drinking water is quite a problem to carry enough with. Once we climb to the peaks we reach almost to the height the birds of prey only know ... buzzards, falcons and eagles. With the sight of an eagle in the sky on occasion the sounds of the young eagles in the rocks can be heard. Just as we were starting to get used to the wilderness we had to go. Because of worn shoes that have to endure hours of hard walking back towards the lower areas of the mountain it was not easy for me. But much more difficult was to leave those beautiful forests because who knows if there will be opportunities to revisit that magnificent space. Thanks for joinig us on this trip. (Pavle Balenovic).
