House of Scientists Lviv:
The building of the former noble casino and now the House of Scientists is one of the Lviv most amazing and perfect architectural structures and is recognized as a valuable neo-baroque monument. The construction was ordered by the studs’ owners club and was carried out by the famous Austrian company Fellner and Helmer, in 1898. They are known for designing such famous buildings like Vienna Observatory and Odessa Opera.
Constructing the Lviv casino, the Austrian architects were inspired by the best samples of European palatial architecture and this influence is clearly seen in the luxurious decoration of building’s facades, which are richly adorned with sculptures and stucco work. The entrance is ‘guarded’ by two magnificent atlantes, who hold the first floor balcony on their mighty shoulders.
However, it is its fantastic interiors that make the amazing house in Lviv downtown look like royal palaces of the Old World. The ground floor is occupied by the huge lobby, whose main adornment is unique oak staircase with carved railings. It is said that it was a wedding gift to a member of the club. The intricately meandering stairs lead to the first floor, where eight luxurious rooms are located: White Room with marble fireplace and black concert grand piano, Red Room, covered with silk and featuring crystal chandeliers, cozy Beige Room and charming Mirror Room with antique furniture, the famous library with delightful gallery and balcony, adorned with stucco work. The green strolling garden and the meeting room are situated there too.
This building housed casino and, according to locals, city’s most popular brothel, until 1939. It used to be the youth recruitment point for hard labor in Germany during the World War II and became the House of Scientists only in 1948. Currently, building’s rich interiors, which didn’t change over the last hundred years, frequently serve as setting for historical movies. Lviv formal dancesare regularly carried out there.House of scientists in Lviv — a former aristocratic casino, noble casino, popular casino, Gerhard casino — is architectural monument, located in the central part of the city. The authors of the project were known Viennese architects H.Helmer and F.Felner (authors of the Odessa Opera House). The architects were inspired by examples of palace architecture of Central European Baroque. Imposing decoration of facades of the building is combined with exquisite elegance in construction of stairway gallery of lobby. The interiors of the building are often used for filming, including the film D'Artagnan and Three Musketeers.
This building was built as a popular casino (it is gentry, it is Gerhard casino, it wasn’t moral institution, although they say that one of the descendants of Mozart performed here), but now Lviv balls are held here. Thus the tradition of Lviv balls, which began in 1482, is maintained here.

Architecture In Ukraine | VLOGMAS Day 4 (House Of Scientists)
So this is pretty much the shortest vlog ever. It is also probably the most boring vlog ever. But guys...I committed to putting out 1 video every day until December 25 so I intend on doing that. Always creating even if what you create sucks. SO! Here we are in Vlogmas day 4. Me and my Ukrainian friends are just exploring Lviv on our last full day here. We stopped by to check out some of the dope architecture here in Lviv. Particularly a place called The House Of Scientists which used to be a casino. Funny thing is... People used to go in this building to gamble. They went broke, then left to go to the park right outside and then commit suicide because they lost everything they had. Wow. I hope you enjoy this super short and boring episode of my vlog lol. :D

Львів. Будинок вчених. Колишнє Народне касино Герхарда. Lviv. House of Scientists
House of Scientists. How to find it.
49. Living house House of Scientists
The prominent scientists lived in this house - academicians of Kazakhstan: N. Sauranbayev, K.Djumaliev, S.Baishev, whose works became the foundation of modern sciences of the Republic. The building became famous all over the Union after the movie “Needle”. There was a scene on the staircase when Pyotr Mamonov was dancing with passion, while Viktor Tsoi, sitting on a pace above accompanied him on the guitar. At that moment he was writing his famous song A Star named the Sun. In Soviet times, there was a shop on the ground floor called Goluboi Ekran (blue screen) - the first store of radio and television goods and other up-to-date home appliances. The building is located on Zhibek Zholy Avenue, 60 and it was built in 1949 according to the project of G.Bobovich. It is a unique synthesis of classical techniques and national style elements. It can be rightly called one of the best residential houses of the 1940s. The three-storied building consists of five towers, U-shaped by design with some risalit space along the main axis. It stands on a high podium. The pointed arch is a main facade element. Apartments with three and four rooms, with block and section plan, with all the facilities, cross-ventilation, rooms for servants and garbage chutes, garages and workshops had no analogues in housing construction in those years. Since 1984, it’s been an architectural monument.

The Bernardine church and monastery in Lviv is located in the city's Old Town, south of the market square. The monastery along with the Roman Catholic church of St. Andrew, today the Greek Catholic church of St. Andrew, now belong the Order of St. Basil the Great. The Franciscan Observantists, known in the region as Bernardines after their monastery in Kraków in order to distinguish them from Franciscan Conventuals, were invited to Lviv by Andrzej Odrowąż in 1460. In 1509 the monastery was plundered by the Moldovan hospodar Bogdan III cel Orb. In the 17th century the present day church and monastery were constructed in the same place in the style of Italian and Dutch mannerism and consecrated in 1630. As the complex was located outside Lviv's city walls it was equipped with its own fortifications from the east and south, mostly taken apart at the beginning of the 19th century. In 1733 square belfry was added to the complex and in 1736 a monument to Saint John of Dukla, who died in the monastery in 1484, was built in front of the church. The interior was refurbished in the Baroque style in the years 1738–1740. The church managed to avoid being closed by the Austrian emperor Joseph II, although part of the monastery was taken over for the city archive. After the Second World War the church was closed by Soviets and fell into disuse until the collapse of the Soviet Union when it was returned to the faithful, since 1991 the complex is under the care of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Basilian Order and has undergone thorough renovation. Just around the corner stands the Hlyniany Gate.Wikipedia

How did I survive this... | VLOGMAS Day 3 (Meat And Justice)
It's episode 22 of the vlog. AKA Vlogmas Day 3 and I'm still out in Lviv Ukraine! This time, I'm going with my friends to The First Lviv Grill Restaurant of Meat And Justice. Weird name right? Why do they call it that? Because this place doesn't only serve a mean plate of steak...it also serves cruel and unusual punishment as a form of justice to those who do wrong! The Meat and Justice torture cafe in Lviv is yet another example of why Ukraine has the richest culture I've ever seen. The best experiences, and most awesome themed cafe's are everywhere. And aside from being whipped 30 times by a Ukrainian girl in colonial clothes, I'd say this (being tortured 4 times) was perhaps the greatest and funnest experience I've ever had in a restaurant! Not only was the guy super chill about the video, but he was super proud of his job. And even took the time to tell me the history of torture methods in medieval times. THIS is nightlife in Ukraine. THIS is life is Ukrainian Life. THIS is what it means to live LXGENDARY!

Ukraine/Lviv:
Lviv (Ukrainian: Львів,) the largest city in western Ukraine and the seventh largest city in the country overall, is one of the main cultural centres of Ukraine. Named in honor of the Leo, the eldest son of Rus' King Daniel of Galicia. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia (also called Kingdom of Rus')from 1272 to 1349 when was conquered by King Casimir III the Great who then became known as the King of Poland and Rus'. From 1434, it was the regional capital of the Ruthenian Voivodeship in the Kingdom of Poland, then renamed Lemberg in 1772 as the capital of the Habsburg Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria. In 1918 in a short time was the capital of the West Ukrainian People's Republic. Between the wars, the city was known as Lwów and was the centre of the Lwów Voivodeship in the Second Polish Republic. After the Second World War, it became part of the Soviet Union (Ukrainian SSR) and in 1991 of independent Ukraine. Administratively, Lviv serves as the administrative center of Lviv Oblast and has the status of city of oblast significance. Its population is 728,350 (2016 est.)Lviv was the centre of the historical region of Galicia. The historical heart of the city, with its old buildings and cobblestone streets, survived Soviet and German occupations during the Second World War largely unscathed. The city has many industries and institutions of higher education such as Lviv University and Lviv Polytechnic. Lviv is also a home to many world-class cultural institutions, including a philharmonic orchestra and the famous Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet. The historic city centre is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Lviv celebrated its 750th anniversary with a son et lumière in the city centre in September 2006.
Due to the rich cultural programme, developed infrastructure (now Lviv has more than 8 000 hotel rooms, over 700 cafes and restaurants, free WI-Fi zones in the city centre, good connection with many countries of the world) Lviv is considered one of Ukraine's major tourist destinations. The city had a 40% increase in tourists in the early 2010s; the highest rate in Europe.
