The Malta Experience 2018 - Quality Assured Malta
THE MALTA EXPERIENCE
Malta’s first and foremost audio-visual attraction; the show covers 7000 years of history in 45 minutes. From the early settlers of the temple period and the Knights of the Great Siege, through to the destruction of World War 2 and the island’s accession into the European Union.
Through beautiful imagery, a gripping commentary in 17 languages is accompanied by a dramatic soundtrack. The Malta Experience has enthralled over 4 million visitors at its purpose-built panoramic auditorium. The show has over the years built up a reputation as being the ideal way of starting your sightseeing of the islands.
The Malta Experience
Blessed with sun throughout the year and set in crystal clear waters, Malta and its sister islands of Gozo and Comino offer an all-round experience where complete relaxation can easily give way to one's urge to discover the Maltese Islands' many cultural, artistic and natural treasures. Malta's history spans 6,000 years and its strategic location in the middle of the Mediterranean has always been coveted by all the major powers throughout the region. Past empires from the Phoenicians to the Romans, the Knights of Malta and more recently the British Empire have all left their own indelible mark on Malta giving it its rich history.
Malta Malta 5D show
Malta 5D is an innovative introduction to the Maltese islands in the heart of Valletta. Shown in a purposely built auditorium, it is just a stone throw away from Valletta's main entrance and is easily accessible from the main public bus terminus, hop-on hop-off buses that stop near Castille and from the ferry boat terminal. Malta 5D delights young and old by vividly immersing its audience into a virtual world whilst recounting the historical highlights of these Mediterranean islands.
Malta 5D travels through prehistoric temples, ferocious encounters with the Knights of St John and delves into the island's heavy participation in World War II. Malta 5D will have you flying over open seas, racing through narrow streets and dodging swords and bombs. Perfectly timed moving seats, water sprays, air blasts and enticing smells, together with painstaking 3D animation, bring Malta's history to life like never before.

Malta is an archipelago in the central Mediterranean between Sicily and the North African coast. It's a nation known for historic sites related to a succession of rulers including the Romans, Moors, Knights of Saint John, French and British. It has numerous fortresses, megalithic temples and the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, a subterranean complex of halls and burial chambers dating to circa 4000 B.C.
The City VALLETTA, Malta -- Malta is the largest of three islands that comprise the Maltese archipelago. Sandwiched in the Mediterranean between Italy, Tunisia and Libya, the island has visible influences from each -- but still carries its own unique style.
There are two official languages of the island: Maltese, which sounds like a mixture of Italian and Arabic (heavy on the Italian with a similar inflection), and -- due to centuries of colonial rule -- British English.

Hypogeum & Valletta, Malta
Our first official day in Malta, we booked 9am tickets (booked way head of time) for a visit to the Hypogeum. It was not very difficult to find with our GPS and rental car, but if you take a bus I cannot say.
The tour lasted approximately 1 hour or so, and was worth it. Only 80 people allowed per day in groups of 10, per hour, so make sure to book appropriately.
From there we walk around the town square nearby but there wasn't much to see.
We then drove to Valletta, where we spent several hours walking around and even heading up to the Upper Barracca Gardens for the battery salute which happens at 12:00 and 4:00pm (16:00).
It's free but get there early enough to get a nice view, otherwise it's difficult to see through the people.

Valletta, Malta | What We Did in Malta
Ahhhh Malta. Okay so I started this day by doing a private Game of Thrones tour which Querin (who doesn't watch GoT) wasn't interested in at.all.
So the tour was over by 2pm...I got back to the ship and could not find a single member of the posse. I really wanted company but it had seemed everyone was already out and doing their thing, so I readied myself for the task of going out and exploring the streets of Valletta by myself. Then the phone rang.
I answered the phone and it was Raphael asking if I wanted to hang out with them. I said yes...hung up the phone and rushed out to meet them. When I got there Raphael was confused because he thought he was talking to Querin...nope, it was me and them was he and his roommate Jose. And then there was Dennis and Karine and as we continued to walk, boom...we bumped into to Miauw who had forgotten her sunglasses and in returned picked up us.
Boom...the new posse was complete and without a single plan we set out to discover our day in Malta. I went from not being able to find a friend in the world to finding an entire soul-crew instead.
This is Malta.

La Valletta, Malta, Europe
Valletta is the capital of Malta, colloquially known as Il-Belt in Maltese. It is located in the central-eastern portion of the island of Malta, and the historical city has a population of 6,966. Valletta is the second southernmost capital of the EU member states after Nicosia. Valletta contains buildings from the 16th century onwards, built during the rule of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, also known as Knights Hospitaller. The city is essentially Baroque in character, with elements of Mannerist, Neo-Classical and Modern architecture in selected areas, though World War II left major scars on the city. The City of Valletta was officially recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980.
The city was named for Jean Parisot de la Valette, who succeeded in defending the island from an Ottoman invasion in 1565. The official name given by the Order of Saint John was Humilissima Civitas Valletta The Most Humble City of Valletta, or Città Umilissima in Italian. The bastions, curtains and ravelins along with the beauty of its Baroque palaces, gardens and churches, led the ruling houses of Europe to give the city its nickname Superbissima Most Proud. The Valletta peninsula has two natural harbours, Marsamxett and the Grand Harbour. The Grand Harbour is Malta's major port, with unloading quays at Marsa. A cruise-liner terminal is located along the old seawall of the Valletta Waterfront that Grandmaster Manuel Pinto de Fonseca built. Valletta features a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Valletta experiences a lack of precipitation during the summer months and heavier precipitation during the winter months. Winter temperatures are moderated by the city's proximity to the sea. As a result, Valletta enjoys mild winters. Average high temperatures range from around 15 °C (59 °F) in January to about 30 °C (86 °F) in August, while average low temperatures range from around 10 °C (50 °F) in January to 22 °C (72 °F) in August. The city is on the island of Malta so it shares its early history with the island. Immediately after the end of the Siege of Malta in 1565, the Order decided to found a new city on the Xiberras peninsula to fortify the Order's position in Malta and bind the Knights to the island. The foundation stone of Valletta was laid by the Grandmaster of the Order, Jean Parisot de la Valette on 28 March 1566. La Valette placed the first stone in Our Lady of Victories Church. In his book Dell'Istoria della Sacra Religione et Illustrissima Militia di San Giovanni Gierosolimitano (English: The History of the Sacred Religion and Illustrious Militia of St John of Jerusalem), written between 1594 and 1602, Giacomo Bosio writes that when the cornerstone of Valletta was placed, a group of Maltese elders said: Iegi zimen en fel wardia col sceber raba iesue uquie (Which in modern Maltese reads, Jiġi żmien li fil-Wardija [l-Għolja Sciberras] kull xiber raba' jiswa uqija, and in English, There will come a time when every piece of land on Sciberras Hill will be worth its weight in gold). Grand Master La Valette died on 21 August 1568 at age 74 and never saw the completion of his city. Originally interred in the church of Our Lady of the Victories, his remains now rest in St. John's Co-Cathedral among the tombs of other Grand Masters of the Knights of Malta. Francesco Laparelli was the city's principal designer and his plan departed from medieval Maltese architecture, which exhibited irregular winding streets and alleys. He designed the new city on a rectangular grid, and without any collacchio (an area restricted for important buildings). The streets were designed to be wide and straight, beginning centrally from the City Gate and ending at Fort Saint Elmo overlooking the Mediterranean; certain bastions were built 153 feet (47 m) tall. The Maltese architect Gerolamo Cassar was responsible for a number of the buildings. After the Knights' departure and the brief French occupation, building projects in Valletta resumed under British rule. These projects included widening gates, demolishing and rebuilding structures, widening newer houses over the years, and installing civic projects. Nazi and Fascist air raids throughout World War II caused much destruction. The Royal Opera House, constructed at the city entrance in the 19th century, was one of the buildings lost to the raids. In 1980, the 24th Chess Olympiad took place in Valletta. Valletta has been designated European Capital of Culture for 2018. Valletta is the scene of the Maltese Carnival, held in February leading up to Lent. Carnival in Gozo is celebrated in Victoria and parishes in both islands hold their own festivities.
