35° approx. up from the Southern Horizon a bright 'star' twinkled various colours vigorously. I had seen Saturn in roughly that position on nights before and was surprised when I looked closer this night. It was also witnessed by my daughter who came home at the right moment. I would love an explanation for what we saw.

A Short Documentary about Rochester Airport (EGTO) in Kent, United Kingdom.
In late 2002 - early 2003 the future of Rochester Airport in Kent was uncertain with speculation of possible closure or relocation. Staff, Pilots & flight students wanted to keep the airport running for the benefit of it's community (incl the Medway Aircraft Preservation Society).
Filmed by Colourbar Productions, student filmmakers at London Guildhall University (now London Metropolitan University).

Zoë Smith (as featured in this film) and Richard Craske (both UK) landed at a total of 102 different airfields around the British mainland in an R22 helicopter between 4.20 a.m. and 7 p.m. on 19 June 2002. They started at Derby and finished at Sheffield, covering 1,300 km (705 UK nautical miles).

Two British pilots have landed back in the UK after flying around the world in a newly restored Spitfire.
Steve Brooks, 58, from Burford, Oxfordshire, and Matt Jones, 45, from Exeter, Devon, took four months to circumnavigate the globe in the first trip of its kind in a Spitfire, which involved stopping off at 100 locations in 30 countries.
The project, called Silver Spitfire - The Longest Flight, started and finished at Goodwood Aerodrome, the base of Boultbee Flight Academy, the first-ever school for Spitfire pilots, in West Sussex.

Kent Police introduces Body Worn Video
On the 17 September 2014 Kent Police introduced Body Worn Video in Maidstone, Medway and Thanet as part of a live test phase. 430 cameras will be rolled out across these districts. The equipment allows real-time evidence capture, offering the potential to move forward with reduced stress for the victim.
Other benefits include an increase in early guilty pleas, as defendants are shown irrefutable evidence which can free up officer time; a reduction in offending behaviour, as the potential for actions to be captured on film is understood. This can result in better safety for members of the public and officers.

Sergeant John Stanley Gilders: The story of the recovery of the lost pilot and his plane
John joined the RAFVR on 21st May 1938, and began flying at 18 E&RFTS at Fair Oaks and soloed on June 11th.
Called up on 1st September 1939, John was posted to No 1 ITW at Cambridge on 6th November.
On 1st February 1940, John moved on to 3 ITS at South Cerney, and with the course completed, he joined 72 Squadron at Acklington on 15th June.
He was slightly injured in a night-landing accident on 22nd August in Spitfire N3221.
72 Squadron moved south to Biggin Hill on 31st August. Johns claimed a Do17 damaged on 2nd September, a Me110 destroyed on 4th, he shared a Do215 on 10th, claimed a Me109 destroyed on 11th. On Battle of Britain day, September 15th, he shot down an HE111. All aboard survived as he forced the bomber down at the Maidstone Aerodrome.
He damaged Do17's on 24th and 25th and claimed a Me109 and a Ju88 destroyed over Sevenoaks on 27th.
Whilst the HE111 on the 15th was not a Kill, this is included among the 5 planes John brought down on his own, added to the one shared on the 11th
72 Squadron moved to Leconfield on 19th October. John joined 616 Squadron at Kirton-in-Lindsey on 8th November, but on 26th he joined 41 Squadron at Hornchurch.
On 21st February 1941, at the age of 21, John failed to return from a patrol with 'A' Flight in his Spitfire (P7816), and was listed as 'missing, believed killed'. John's Spitfire was seen to drop out of formation for no apparent reason. R/T contact was attempted but no reply came as his aircraft disappeared into cloud at 25,000 feet. It was widely assumed that he suffered from anoxia as a result of his oxygen supply failing, and of the very high altitude, John had pased out and did not recover.
No. 49 Maintenance Unit was sent to the crash-site, where it recovered a small amount of wreckage, but no human remains.
The crash site at Bodel Street in Chilham, east of the River Stour in Kent, had been known for many years, but the Ministry of Defence refused anyone permission excavate to it.
In 1993, Aviation Archaeologist Mark Kirby decided to ignore the MOD and went to the family whose final wishes he would accept. On 20th April 1994, Spitfire P7816 and the remains of Sgt. John Gilders were recovered.
John Gilders was finally laid to rest in Brookwood Military Cemetery, Surrey (Grave 20. E. 15), with full Military Honours on 11th May 1995.

The farm had been sold, and with the consent of the relatives of Sergeant Gilders, Mark Kirby, a Kent based historian, approached the new owner with a view to identifying the pilot. The new farmer had a fresh outlook on the possibility of there being a body in an unmarked grave, in a field that he ploughed twice a year, and wanted the matter investigated. An approach was therefore made to the MoD asking them to send and RAF recovery team to investigate the site. This was refused as there was no evidence that this was the grave of Sergeant Gilders, or that remains would be found. Permission for a recovery attempt by anyone else was also denied as there was a possibility that human remains could be found! Mark Kirby therefore carried out the excavation in the full knowledge that he was in breach of Protection of Military Remains Act, which had, until then, never been used.
When, as predicted, human remains were unearthed the local Police were informed and attended the site, taking possession of the pilot's remains. Mark Kirby was charged under the Protection of Military Remains Act. In court he pleaded guilty, but was given an absolute discharge by the court as he was carrying out the wishes of the pilot's family.
