November Avlaki Walk with Kelsey Edwards on Hydra Island Greece
Come for a November Avlaki Walk with Kelsey Edwards on Hydra Island Greece. Starting on the west corner of Hydra Harbour I take you west to the crossroads above Spilia, then the top route passing between the Boy on a Dolphin statue and the Sophia Loren windmill. This Hydra landmark is immortalized by the 1950's film. From here I take you to upper Avlaki to admire the Haramis Windmill and the spectacular views. After saying hello to the numerous mules that live up there, I head back to town via Four Corners finishing at the Pirate Bar. For more details about this walk, Avaliki and the places I comment on during the film, please visit my site, HydraDirect.com.
HYDRA (Greece): Episode 3 - Hydra town at night with donkey ride
Night brings the best of Hydra and becomes more cosmopolitan as the crowd go to the beach and fill the cafés, tavernas, the restaurants and the bar-club along the beach.
For mainly family nights, have a long dinner in the nice restaurants of Hydra.
An activity that is gradually developing in Hydra island over the last years is diving.
The sea bottom around Hydra has many interesting reefs and underwater caves, ideal for scuba divers. Diving trips are also
organized in close islands, like Dokos and Spetses, and in the neighboring coasts of Peloponnese.
Welcome to Kanela the foal in Hydra Island Greece
As one of the few places in the world where there is an island wide ban on all motorised vehicles, Hydra Island Greece relies on the largest team of horses, mules and even donkeys to provide transport of people, supplies, equipment and building materials to various locations.
It is a very exciting time when a new foal is introduced to the herd.
On Hydra, the honour of naming this latest foal went to Zara Bouklas of the Pirate Bar, because she took a particular interest in the welfare of the mother during pregnancy. So the owner, brought her on the first visit to town to meet everyone. Zara name the foal Kanela which is the English pronunciation of the Greek word meaning 'cinnamon'. The mare was very placid and unstressed and even the foal who was a little frisky at being down in the town, was not worried too much by the attention and was happy enough to pose for photos and 'feed' from Mum.

Winter arrived on Hydra for an hour today - Hydra Island Greece
Beguilled by gorgeous sunshine this morning, quite a few were caught out at about 13:00 when all of a sudden the first storm of the winter arrived. It was a soggy walk home, but happily it didn't last long. By 14:30 the storm had passed on leaving the island cleaner, fresher but a good 10 degrees cooler. I suppose it had to happen sooner or later after the extra long sunny summer we've enjoyed on Hydra this year.

Expert guide to Hydra
A whaleback ridge looming from the sea, Hydra shot to fame in 1956 as the location for A Girl in Black, directed by Michael Cacoyannis, with an extra filip in 1957 for hosting Boy on a Dolphin, starring Sophia Loren.
Soon various foreign personalities (including Leonard Cohen) bought and restored property here, joining prominent Greeks who had long appreciated the island’s charms. Sumptuous mansions and humbler vernacular homes arrayed amphitheatrically around the marble-quayed harbour date from the 18th and 19th centuries, when Hydriot seafaring prowess brought great wealth. Despite its high-profile reputation, and the mid-day arrival of “One-Day Saronic Cruises”, the island remains endearingly time-warped: as a listed architectural reserve, all new construction is banned, and the town remains blissfully free of motor vehicles except for two small fire trucks and a few miniature rubbish trucks – photogenic donkeys (or mules) do most haulage.

*Who are we?*
We are a European couple from Germany (Alex) and the Netherlands (Mandy), sailing around the Med on our 36ft sailboat. Six months ago we started our journey in Greece with little sailing experience, figuring things out as we go, not really knowing what we're doing. Our goal is to circumnavigate the world via the wind, always being surrounded by the ocean. Sailboat life is super different from land life and can be pretty rough at times. see the little things is the documentary of our endeavour of simplifying life, decelerating pace, and practicing mindfulness. Follow our adventures when you are curious to see how we mess up and fix it up again! We are currently still sailing Greece, but will head over to Italy and beyond soon.

Ios Island: Endless blue and wonderful landscapes make the most beautiful island in the Aegean Sea
Mykonos, Greek Islands, Greece - Unravel Travel TV
A Greek island like no other, rustic chic combined with ancient myth. Mykonos is not your average Greek island. This sophisticated retreat in the heart of the Cyclades has been considered a special place for thousands of years, long before the rich and famous created the need for celebrity playgrounds. Mykonos is 30 square miles of barren land in the Aegean Sea with its white sugar cube structures, boutique shops and idyllic harbours. Mention Mykonos and many will refer to its glittering nightlife and gay scene. It is possibly the most gay friendly island I have visited, but the real appeal of Mykonos is the variety of entertainment for everyone. Also its close proximity to the other islands makes it an ideal base for anyone keen to backpack around the Greek islands during the summer. The temperature is typically Mediterannean with glorious sun from April through to September.
Mykonos town is the core of the islands action. Its a white-washed warren of narrow cobbled streets designed to confuse pirates in days gone by but now equally capable of baffling the tourist. But the myriad winding streets also mean you find yourself stumbling upon the islands iconic windmills, local celebrity pelicans and no small number of decadent jewellery stores. Little Venice, an area named after the wooden seafront buildings overhanging the water, provides numerous stop-off points. You can watch the people stream by at the classy, but rather expensive Sea Satin restaurant or try more affordable Greek fare in the attractive setting of the waterfront area. Meals will set you back from €20 with wine provided you stick to the cheaper options. Or you can sip on your drink of choice to the sound of the water lapping against the balcony edge at cocktail venues such as Rhapsodies.
Hiring a moped is a great way to explore the island but be prepared for wind-swept hair due to the powerful winds that swipe at the island from the north. Mykonos has some of the best beaches of the Cyclades, and as long as you are prepared to share them, the sheltered bays of the southern coastline are by far the most popular. Agios Yannis is one of the most famous as it was the location for the movie Shirley Valentine. There is no shortage of sunloungers and umbrellas, as you recuperate after the night before and relax in preparation for the night ahead. For those wanting a more remote sunwhorshipping experience the tranquil Agios Sostis and the private Super Paradise are only accessible by boat.
Not all the beaches in Mykonos are just places where you sunbathe and swim. Towards the latter part of the afternoon, bars such as Tropicana on Paradise beach, are where the party gets started. On the party beaches the cocktails flow freely, and the whole beach swings to the rhythm of an MTV beach party. Popular nightspot Cavo Paradiso, complete with pool, perches on the rocks above Paradise beach while the rather ironically named Space is the superclub in the centre of Mykonos town.
Despite its arid beauty, Mykonos is not a mecca for the culture vulture. There are a few small mildly interesting museums but the main sightseeing of significance is the unihabited island of Delos. Today the island is effectively a big open-air museum where you can visit the Great Temple of Apollo, built in 476 BC. You can visit all the treasures in a couple of hours. The ruins are one of the most important architectural showcases in the region, having become the centre of pilgrimages for the followers of Apollo, around the temple of whom a whole city sprang.
Where to stay in Mykonos is a delightful decision, if you can afford to splash the cash. There are incredible boutique hotels, with the Kivotos being one of the most desirable. Just 10 minutes from Mykonos town, this resort has 40 rooms eah individually deocarted by famous artists. Its pool area will beg you to stay around all day with its incredible sea views and a cocktail bar. There is also a private beach with water sports. A close match in comfort and style is the Tharroe Mykonos Hotel which has an onsite spa and panoramic views of the Aegean sea. For those with tighter budgets there are self-catering apartments to be found right across the island with the Paolas Town apartments being a particularly charming option.

EXPLORING the island of MYKONOS and the beautiful boats (GREECE)
SUBSCRIBE: - The boats of Mykonos (Μύκονος), Greece (my best photos). Vic Stefanu, vstefanu@yahoo.com. Mykonos is an island in the Cyclades group in the Aegean Sea. It's popularly known for its summer party atmosphere. Beaches such as Paradise and Super Paradise have bars that blare thumping music. Massive dance clubs attract world-renowned DJs and typically stay open well past dawn. Iconic landmarks include a row of 16th-century windmills, which sit on a hill above Mykonos town.
Rhodes, the largest of Greece’s Dodecanese islands, is known for its beach resorts, ancient ruins and remnants of its occupation by the Knights of St. John during the Crusades. The city of Rhodes has an Old Town featuring the medieval Street of the Knights and the castlelike Palace of the Grand Masters. Captured by the Ottomans and then held by the Italians, the palace is now a history museum.
Greece is a country in southeastern Europe with thousands of islands throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Influential in ancient times, it's often called the cradle of Western civilization. Athens, its capital, retains landmarks including the 5th-century B.C. Acropolis citadel with the Parthenon temple. Greece is also known for its beaches, from the black sands of Santorini to the party resorts of Mykonos.
