Bridgwater is a market town and civil parish in Somerset, England. Bridgwater is at the edge of the Somerset Levels, in level and well-wooded country; to the north are the Mendips and to the west the Quantock hills.
Bridgwater lies along both sides of the River Parrett, 10 miles (16 km) from its mouth, has been a major port and trading centre and maintains a large industrial base. Bridgwater is linked to Taunton by the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal. Bridgwater is between two junctions of the M5 motorway and Bridgwater railway station is on the main railway line between Bristol and Taunton.
Historically, the town of Bridgwater had a politically radical tendency. The Battle of Sedgemoor, where the Monmouth Rebellion was finally crushed in 1685, was fought nearby. Notable buildings include the Church of St Mary and the house in Blake Street, largely restored, which was the birthplace of Admiral Blake in 1598, and is now the Blake Museum. The town of Bridgwater has an arts centre and plays host to the annual Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival.
Bridgwater is home to the Somerset Brick and Tile Museum, built on part of the former Barham Brothers site (brick and tile manufacturers between 1857 and 1965). Castle House was built in 1851 and was one of the first to make extensive use of concrete demonstrating an innovative interpretation of traditional masonry features in concrete.
A house in Blake Street, largely restored, is believed to be the birthplace of Robert Blake in 1598, and is now the Blake Museum. It was built in the late 15th or early 16th century, and has been designated by English Heritage as a grade II* listed building. His statue from 1898 by F. W. Pomeroy has been repositioned from the front of the Corn Exchange to face down Cornhill. The public library by E Godfrey Page dates from 1905.
Sydenham House was previously a manor estate built in the early 16th century, which was refronted and rebuilt after 1613. Its owners were on the losing side in the Civil War and again in the Monmouth Rebellion.
As trade expanded during the Industrial Revolution, Bridgwater was linked to Taunton by the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal (1827), although initially it ran from a basin south of Bridgwater at Huntworth. The Drove Bridge, which marks the current extent of the Port of Bridgwater is the nearest to the mouth and the newest road bridge to cross the river. With a span of 184 feet (56 m), the bridge was constructed as part of the Bridgwater Northern Distributor road scheme (1992), and provides a navigable channel which is 66 feet (20 m) wide with 8.2 feet (2.5 m) headroom at normal spring high tides.

Bristol - Uk - Escape Club
Bristol (Listeni/ˈbrɪstəl/) is a city, unitary authority area and county in South West England with an estimated population of 442,500 in 2015.[5] It is England's sixth and the United Kingdom's eighth most populous city,[6] and the most populous city in Southern England after London. Bristol is one of the eight largest regional English cities that make up the Core Cities Group, and is ranked as a gamma world city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network, the fourth highest ranked English city.[7] People from the city are known as Bristolians.[8] It borders the counties of Somerset and Gloucestershire, with the historic cities of Bath and Gloucester to the southeast and northeast, respectively. The city has a short coastline on the Severn Estuary (which flows into the Bristol Channel).
Iron Age hill forts and Roman villas were built in the area near the confluence of the Rivers Frome and Avon, and around the beginning of the 11th century it became known as Brycgstow (Old English the place at the bridge). Bristol received a royal charter in 1155 and was part of Gloucestershire until 1373, when it became a county.[9] From the 13th to the 18th century, Bristol was among the top three English cities after London (with York and Norwich) in tax receipts.[10] Bristol was eclipsed by the rapid rise of Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham during the Industrial Revolution. Its prosperity linked to the sea since its earliest days, Bristol was the base for the early voyages of exploration to the New World: on a ship out of Bristol in 1497 John Cabot, a Venetian, was the first European since the Vikings to land in North America, and in 1499 William Weston, a Bristol merchant, was the first Englishman to lead an exploration to North America. The Port of Bristol has since moved from Bristol Harbour in the city centre to the Severn Estuary at Avonmouth and Royal Portbury Dock.
Bristol's modern economy is built on the creative media, electronics and aerospace industries, and the city-centre docks have been redeveloped as centres of heritage and culture.[11] The city has two universities, the University of the West of England and the University of Bristol and a variety of artistic and sporting organisations and venues including; The Royal West of England Academy, The Arnolfini, Spike Island, The Bristol Pavilion and The Memorial Stadium. It is well connected to London and other major UK cities by road, rail, sea and air including the M5 and M4 (which connect to the city centre by the M32), Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway mainline rail stations, and Bristol Airport. One of the UK's most popular tourist destinations,[12] Bristol was selected in 2009 as one of the world's top-ten cities by international travel publishers Dorling Kindersley in their Eyewitness guides for young adults.[13] In 2014 The Sunday Times named it as the best city in Britain in which to live,[14] and Bristol also won the EU's European Green Capital Award in 2015.[15]

From the year of 1988, the classic from Bristol massive producers Rob SMITH and Ray MIGHTY feat. Jackie Jackson on vocals -ANYONE.
The story of SMITH & MIGHTY is closely bound up with the musical history of Bristol, their hometown. For a good 20 years plus, Rob Smith and Ray Mighty (joined nowadays by third member Peter D. Rose) have featured among sound pioneers like Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead and Roni Size who have enjoyed worldwide success. However, despite their huge influence on the 'Sound of Bristol', whereas the aforementioned have been able to celebrate their well-deserved successes, SMITH & MIGHTY have always had to take a back seat due to unfavourable circumstances. In spite of some excellent 12 releases and their totally cool debut album 'Bass Is Maternal', an international breakthrough was not foreseeable for the time being. This only changed in 1998, with their self-compiled release for the DJ Kicks series, which firmly put them back on the map and earned them much respect internationally. But let's start at the beginning:
In the mid-eighties a scene arose in the St. Paul's district, based around DJs like Nellee Hooper (later founder of Soul II Soul), Miles Johnson, Grant and Mushroom, who soon dubbed themselves the Wild Bunch, going on to father the 'Sound of Bristol' by blasting a bassy melt-in-your-mouth mix of fusion, dub, reggae, soul and hip hop out of their soundsystems on to the streets of St. Paul's. What was initially played through traditional soundsystems progressed into the production of their own tracks, and the 'Wild Bunch's first recording 'Look of Love' clinched them quite a local hit. Co-producing was a second Bristol team, namely Rob Smith & Ray Mighty, who had established their own soundsystem called '3 Stripe'. In 1988, SMITH & MIGHTY released this cover version of Burt Bacharch's 'Anyone (Who Had A Heart)', shortly followed by 'Walk On By' on their label, also dubbed '3 Stripe'. (I bought them at while at school, how old am i!!!) With this brace of tracks and their mellow basslines, soulful vocals and deep arrangements SMITH & MIGHTY had set the precedent for successive releases in the British port. (Such as a certain Massive Attack's debut single 'Any Love', which they produced.)
They were also producers of 'Wishing On A Star' by Fresh Four (a one hit wonder featuring the then 17 year old DJ Krust) at the end of 1989, marking the beginning of a five year odyssey through the lowlands of the (major) music industry. After the huge success of 'Wishing On A Star', record companies began to take an interest in the boys from Bristol. In 1990 they remix'd Norman Cook's - Beats International - DUB BE GOOD TO ME, a massive uk No.1 in that year. They refused a lucrative offer from Virgin's Richard Branson, commenting 'We just don't like his style, and the way Margaret Thatcher portrayed him as the ideal business mogul. But the deal signed with London Records proved to be disastrous.
After their deal with the major company had expired, the first album on their own label More Rockers was released in 1995 (a dub version of an LP originally recorded for London Records). Due to woeful distribution, this album only managed to make its way to hard core fans, yet rave reviews in the press consoled SMITH & MIGHTY. The next stage was to concentrate on the project and label More Rockers, run with third member Peter D. Rose. They started laying down tracks with groundbreaking breakbeat and Drum 'n' Bass again, which were picked up and reworked by producers like Roni Size and DJ Krust. Hence the arrival of 'Bristol Jump-Up'.
Hip hop, reggae, soul and mainly a great love of dub make the songs on the new album somewhat of one of the most exciting records to appear out of Bristol. The album was recorded over a period of two years, with vocals by the likes of Tammy Payne, Alice Perera and Rudy Lee, who all also hail from Bristol, and SMITH & MIGHTY's deeply-embedded roots in the city make the whole thing into rather a family affair. Also in my PLAYLISTS is SMITH AND MIGHTY'S jungle remix of Cheshire Cat - BITE THE DUST, and SMITH AND MIGHTY'S track feat. Tammy Payne - SAME. Enjoy! Please comment and rate tunes/videos. Chaos UK - No Security (UKDK, 1983)
Subscribe to Cherry Red Records:
Chaos UK are an English hardcore punk band formed in 1979 in Portishead, near Bristol. They played fast aggressive hardcore punk rock initially. The original line up of Simon on vocals, Andy on guitar, Chaos (aka Lice) on bass and Potts on drums recorded two EP's and a full LP for Riot City Record. In the process they along with fellow Bristolians Disorder and Stoke's Discharge revolutionised the HC punk scene. In particular the Japanese 80's HC punk bands were heavily influenced by Chaos UK and Disorder's brutal take on punk. Chaos UK's debut LP was notable in the fact that the band's label claimed it was the fastest, noisiest LP in the cosmos in the short lived Punk Lives magazine; vocal duties on this recording were also handled by bassist Chaos.
The mid 80's saw an almost new line up with Chaos remaining the only original member. He was joined by Mower on vocals, Gabba on guitar (previously with Nottingham's The Seats Of Piss) and Chuck on drums. Over the rest of the 80's Chaos UK were the mainstay and lynchpin of the UK hardcore punk scene playing many hundreds of shows around the world including Japan (the first English punk band to do so, but with a standin drummer, Blackmore of Bristol punk band Lunatic Fringe), the USA, Mexico and all over Europe.

From the year of 1997 - Cheshire Cat - BITE THE DUST - Jungle mix.
There was no video for this version, so ive had to make my own. Thanks to Adeva, M16 Productions and the trusty camcorder for the footage. Bowler's crew Manchester hold tite!
Cheshire Cat is a white M.C. and vocalist from Birmingham UK, although if you have never seen his face you could be easly mistaken for thinking he was a true native of jamaica with his tone of voice and reggae sound. Growing up in inner city Birmingham in the 1980's, he took his influence from the music he heard on local pirate radio stations and sound systems. He has appearred as the m.c. and vocalist on many tracks over the years, most memorably on Leftfield's 1995/6 - RELEASE THE PRESSURE. For this track, BITE THE DUST, he came with his own sound and name. This is the jungle remix by SMITH AND MIGHTY.

Ship Shape And Bristol Fashion (Volume 1)
This is an excerpt of a DVD produced by 1st Take. The complete film is available to order at 1st-take.com or by calling 01454 321614. This is the first volume of a fascinating series of DVDs which celebrates Bristol's long and distinguished history as a major port. These three fully narrated colour archive films were originally commissioned by the Port of Bristol Authority from 1950 to the early 1960s, and were subsequently presented to Bristol Record Office as archive material. They are now available to enjoy on DVD, in association with historical specialists 1st Take. Bristol was once known as 'the cradle of the British Empire' and its favourable situation was central to its success. See how products such as food, timber, petroleum, fruit, wine and tobacco were handled by the skilful and hardy Bristol dockers in the days long before 'health and safety' ruled. This is an evocative record of an era when commodities were still loaded and unloaded at the Avonmouth, City and Portishead Docks by men in flat caps armed with their famous hooks, before containerisation and mass- mechanisation transformed the scene. Relax and enjoy this window into a bygone age.
The moment Louis Carey made Bristol City history
Louis Carey makes history by becoming the club's all-time appearance record holder as an 87th minute substitute against Stevenage at Ashton Gate,
Bristol-born Carey, who donned the captain's armband, made it 646 appearances, eclipsing the great John Atyeo's previous record.
