The Sallie House

The Sallie House (most haunted home in Kansas?)
Some believe this small house in Atchison, Kansas to be one of the most haunted homes in the entire state of Kansas. Many TV shows have gone to investigate the phenomenon such as 'Sightings', 'Ghost Adventurers', and it was even featured in a made for TV movie by Paramount Pictures called the 'Heartland Ghost'. Some say the home is haunted by the ghost of a little girl named Sallie who died during a surgery operation related to appendicitis. There is alot more to this story so if interested, please be sure to check out the links below.

Sallie House (Ghost Caught on Tape) Ep. 1
Alone in a haunted house, the haunting in this house is real.. Paranormal Episode 1, this was one of the scariest paranormal videos that I have done. Real ghost caught on tape during this paranormal episode ... help us make more paranormal docs and live shows by joining our patreon
The Sallie House in Atchison, Kansas quickly earned a national reputation as one of the most haunted places in the U.S. -- almost certainly the most haunted in the state of Kansas. The rather simple-looking painted brick house at 508 N. Second Street, built between 1867 and 1871, gives no indication from the street of its spooky reputation, but the many experiences of those who lived there are have subsequently investigated the place testify as to its ghostly vibes -- mostly of the negative kind.
The Sallie house was brought to national attention when Debra and Tony Pickman lived there from 1992 to 1994 and had many distrubing encounters, including physical attacks on Tony, which were documented by the Sightings television show. It's called the Sallie house because the daughter of some previous tenents had an imaginary friend named Sallie, and she is beleived to be one of the spirits haunting the house. When Tony Pickman drew a picture of the ghost Sallie he had seen, the daughter identified it as her friend, Sallie. (Coincidentally -- or not -- people who owned the house in the 1940s had a daughter named Sallie, although she did not die in the house or at a young age.)

Around Kansas - The Sallie House in Atchison - Oct. 28, 2015
(Frank) And we're back again. Our ghost went to somewhere to get us some pumpkin latte this morning. (Deb) Oh I love it. (Frank) Yea, yea, yea. But not only that but we kinda freaked out cause we heard some rumblings and figured out that's the guys upstairs they were talking this morning. Anyway, this is our Halloween show and I hope you're enjoying our silliness this morning. We have a good time here anyway. (Deb) You know I have done a couple of ghost investigations with my good friend Beth Meyer. She used to have a ghost investigation business and has written a couple of books on haunted Kansas. So, look up her stuff. Beth invited me to an investigation at Constitution Hall one time and it was when she first got into the business. And so we're sitting down there in the dirt in Constitution Hall on Kansas Avenue. And I actually had a conversation with Franklin Crane. It was really interesting. He's been dead for at least a hundred years. So, it was really, really interesting. So, a lot of people are into that. Of course the town that has the biggest reputation in Kansas is Atchison. So, have you ever been up to do one of their haunted tours? (Frank) I have not, but I have heard they are quite spectacular. (Deb) I haven't either, so that's on my list. And I've got, I know that they've been on TV, I've seen some of the documentaries or some of the ghost specials you know, about Atchison. So, lots of really interesting things up there. And they have really capitalized on their ghost population for tourism. So, let's take a closer look. Browsing through old newspapers can turn up some pretty interesting stories, especially appropriate for this time of year. Atchison, Kansas has capitalized on its ghostly inhabitants and its haunted tours are sellouts around Halloween. Thousands of people flock to the city hoping to catch a glimpse of a real ghost. The Chamber of Commerce won't guarantee that spirits show up on every tour, but just maybe. Perhaps the most famous haunted site, the Sallie House, has been the subject of television, movies, and a documentary. Stories like this one, from more than a hundred years ago, may have helped build the city's haunted reputation. A man had lately died, the paper reported, and strange noises began to fill the house. Neighbors were sitting with the dead man's family in a half basement room, off of the kitchen. A stairway led from this room. Suddenly, strange noises were heard coming from upstairs, from the room in which the man had died. Then there was a noise on the stairway; a noise of some object bumping from one side to another, and descending. Then the door opened and a man's head rolled into the room. The people sitting in the room fled in terror, and cannot give much of a description of the head. Not surprisingly, the family stayed with neighbors and refused to go back into the house. The article concluded by saying, Last night four stout young men, armed, stayed in the house, intending to sit up all night. We have not found a follow-up report. Perhaps those stout young men from a hundred years ago are still there, waiting, for a head to roll down the stairs. (Frank) Happy Halloween everybody. (Deb) Happy Hauntings!
(Frank) Yes, so I'm Frank. (Deb) I'm Deb. (Frank) And we'll see you somewhere Around Kansas.
Sallie House Evidence Video
This is our evidence from our investigation at The Sallie House in Atchinson, KS on October 9, 2015.
The Gargoyle House
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Gargoyle House was built in 1884-1885 by Balie Peter B.P. Waggener who was an attorney for the Missouri Pacific Railway Company for the state of Kansas. The Waggener House gained the nickname Gargoyle House for the gargoyle statues perched on the roof. Like many places around Atchison many believe the home to be haunted. One local legend is that when a new family moved into the mansion and tried to remove the gargoyles a man fell to his death while trying to remove them. Another local legend is that Waggener had at some point struck a deal with the devil to be as successful as he was and that the gargoyles were a symbol of his honor to the pact. Also paranormal experts have claimed to feel a presence in the home. Today the Gargoyle House is a private residence.
