Hong Kong To Macau
This year for Chinese New Year Conor and myself decided to escape Hong Kong and jump on a ferry to Macau. Usually around $170 hkd for a single and &300 hkd for a Return Ticket. However we went last minute and the prices seemed to be higher over this busy time of the year. The Ferry takes about an hour, you can check times and prices here -
Macau’s Old Portuguese Town and Cathedral
We jumped off the ferry and straight onto the number 3 bus (you can also get the 3a) and headed for the old Portuguese town on Macau. Jump off at the last stop (you’ll know when that is as everyone will get off and there will be a que of people waiting to get on! Macau was China’s first and last European colony, was under Portuguese rule for over 400 years until it returned to Chinese sovereignty in 1999. Those 400 years of Portuguese rule made a big impact, shaping the city’s unique East-meets-West culture. The architecture is what sticks out to me from the Portuguese rule. We headed straight for the old ruins of St. Pauls Cathedral.
Portugese Food in Macau
We didn’t end up eating any traditional Portuguese food but If you’re looking for some, I was recommended to eat at these two restaurant by a Macanese friend:
Casinos
From the Old town we took a cab to the newer area, with the luxury hotels and the casinos. Cabs are super cheap it cost us $75 Macau dollars. We checked out the Galaxy hotel and it’s casinos but weren’t allowed to film in there.
Happy Hour
After losing money in the casinos we headed to the Ritz Carlton to use their facilities to freshen up, then head to the bar for there happy hour from 6-8pm Serving the best cocktails, tapas style food and an array of cheese, bread and cured meats to choose from. Couldn’t recommend this happy hour enough! Great place to start the night, can check out the details here:
The Vlog abruptly ended here for obvious reason (did I mention that the happy hour was really good). We hit up Club cubic:
I’d recommend it to most! You can also go to Pacha but it wasn’t open over Chinese new year:
