Strahov Monastery and Brewery (Klášterní pivovar Strahov) - IPA & Christmas Doppelbock Beer
Welcome to another international edition of the tour everyone! This time we're in Prague again, the capital of the Czech Republic, and we are on the Lesser Town (Mala Strana) side, way up in the hills at Strahov Monastery! This particular monastery has a fantastic brewery right at it as well, where they brew their own beer! This time we try out the India Pale Ale (IPA) and the Christmas Doppelbock, a seasonal that had just come out at this time. Enjoy!
India Pale Ale - IPA
non-filtered
O.G. 1.053,
alcohol: 6,3% vol.
ingredients: barley malt, hops, water, brewery yeast
We introduce a new special guest in our brewery. It is India Pale Ale (IPA) and its history comes from Great Britain. IPAs was brewed for long distance transports to India and with its high bitterness was inspiration for European brewmasters to create bitter lagers. Our IPA is top-fermented beer brewed from Czech ingredientes and two kinds of American hops (Amarillo and Cascade). It combines full malt body with high hop bitterness and hoppy aroma. All the year round.
Christmas Doppelbock
from: December 5th
Special semi-dark lager, non-filtered
grade: 19%
alcohol: 7.7%
ingredients: Barley malt, adjusted hop, water, yeasts
The strongest beer from our collection. Whole malt bottom fermented beer. The flavor shows the used Czech, Munich, caramel and carapils malt. Its strength – bodiness is balanced with a respectable load of hops. Perfect harmony. Enjoy the best from our fields and hops-gardens in the Christmas time. In the world, it belongs in the Doppelbock category.

Černá Hora Velen Wheat Beer & Modrá Luna Blueberry Lager at Prague Beer Museum in Czech Republic
Another edition of the Tour in Prague, the medieval capital of the Czech Republic! We're back at the Prague Beer Museum - again, NOT a museum but actually just a fantastic beer bar with many craft Czech brews on draft! The two we try out this time around are as follows:
VELEN
Alcohol: 4,8 % by vol.
Special brewer’s yeast for top fermentation is used to produce Velen. At least one half of the malt is produced from wheat. The result is an opaque beer with a pale to straw-yellow colour, with an aroma of yeast, fruit and spices. It has a rich head, strong zest and a sweetish fruit flavour.
BORŮVKA
Alcohol: 4,4 % by vol.
This beer is characterised by a full taste and mild blueberry flavour which is so balanced that it complements the traditional taste characteristics of the beer. Only high-quality ingredients are used for the production of this beer.

Started the day out with a quick jog around Pruage before making our trek out to the Strahov Monastery followed by the Prauge Castle. Hard to believe a Monastery brews their own beer! Afterwards we went shopping for souvenirs at Náměstí Republiky, city square.
