Epirus Photo Safari - 'In search of Tropical Beaches' route
Enjoy a day with Epirus Photo Safari. On our route 1 - In Search of Tropical Beaches.
• This is our basic route which combines mountain, sea, breathtaking views, castles and local culture all in just 120 km. As every day, we will set off from Sivota, heading east up a hill to savour a breathtaking view of Sivota village. After 10 minutes off-roading , our first stop will be at the abandoned village of Vrachonas. This settlement consists of 50 derelict houses, most of which are two storey dwellings with arched structures on the ground floor, made of local stone, and dating from 18th-19th century. We will walk among these buildings in search of the traditional old wells that are located in this area.
• After travelling both on and off road, we will pass by Perdika village, our next stop being at Ali Pasha Castle, above Anthousa. This castle, which is in great condition and ideally situated on high ground, was used as an observatory during the Ottoman slavery years. We will walk along the cyclopean walls and marvel at the amazing view over the whole area (villages of Parga, Anthousa, Agia ).
• Our next stop is nearby, at Louka’s Traditional Watermill. The location is an ode to nature, in the shade of large platane trees beside the river. Here we will be offered “tsipouro”, the most well known traditional drink of Epirus and we will taste local snacks. The watermill has been renovated by the owner, Vasilis, who will give us a demonstration of how flour was made in “the old days”. There is also a folklore museum above the mill.
• Afterwards, we will head south, mostly off-road, until we reach the sea. There we will visit Agios Sostis, the beautiful church that is built, literally, in the rocks. A displaced boulder has created a natural underground entrance that leads to this picturesque chapel. Below Agios Sostis lies the secluded homonymous beach, unknown to many visitors, which has unbelievably crystal clear waters.
• After some extreme off-roading, a ‘secret’ secluded tropical beach is our last stop, where we will relax and take a refreshing dip in crystal clear, turquoise waters. This isolated beach will be your own personal slice of heaven and the magical setting will undoubtedly enchant you. To round off the tour we will enjoy a homemade lunch, including “Mousaka”, Greek salad, olives in virgin olive oil and fresh bread, under the tall olive trees, served with local wine. Off-roading back to Syvota will be as amazing as the rest of the route, since we will witness olive trees growing through large rocks, rough coastal terrain and numerous beaches before reaching the end of our adventure.
I will be your personal photographer throughout our adventure and capture professionally the magical moments that we have shared together. The images captured will remind you of one of the greatest adventures you have ever experienced! My team and I guarantee this!
You don’t need to bring anything with you, just be ready for fun and adventure and let us take care of the rest!
