Preveza, Greece - Epirus
Preveza is a port town on the Ionian sea, part of the region of Epirus. It is known for Ancient Nicopolis, the Acheron River and the Necromanteion (Oracle of the Dead). During summer months, the port of Preveza is full of boats and yachts, while cafes are filled with people. In the picturesque streets of Preveza there are nineteenth century mansions with their remarkable architecture along with houses with insular features. The cobbled alley of Seitan Bazaar with its traditional ouzeri is a famous area in the town. Preveza is adorned with significant Christian temples, such as the churches of Agios Nikolaos and Agios Athanasios, as well as the metropolitan temple of Agios Charalambos with its exceptional paintings and the wooden carved gold-plated iconostasis. Adjacent to the church is the venetian Clock Tower, a landmark of the city, built in 1752. Greek taverns, cafes, and narrow streets portray the typical Mediterranean appearance that you would expect from an old town. The large quay with the beautiful neoclassical buildings creates the perfect setting for relaxing walks. With the combination of the nature and vegetation and the traditional taverns, a very idyllic environment is created. There are many beautiful beaches and other natural sites that one can enjoy while visiting Preveza Prefecture.

Nikopolis, the largest ancient city in Greece
Nikopolis or Nicopolis (the city of victory) is an ancient city that was built on 31 B.C by by the Roman emperor Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus (Augustus) to celebrate his victory over Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium. It is located about eight kilometres away from Preveza, in Epirus region and spread over a great area of 1,500 hectares.
Among the most important monuments of Roman Nikopolis are:
1. The Roman Odeon, which is located on the west side of the old Christian Wall and it includes the auditorium, the orchestra and the stage. It was built in the 1st century AD and remained in use until the second half of the 3rd century AD.
2. Basilica A was founded by Bishop Doumetios (525-575 AD) and is decorated with elaborate mosaics, combining floral and pictorial motifs.
3. Basilica B, built at the time of Bishop Alkison, who was active during the reign of Emperor Anastasios (491-518 AD).
4. The Theatre, which is located south-east of the monument of Augustus. The scene is high, probably two floors, with three arched entrances.
5. The monument of Augustus. It was founded by Octavian-Augustus, 31 BC, after the battle of Aktion and it was dedicated to Mars, Poseidon and Aktion Apollo.
Please note that the main entrance of the site, the monument of Augustus and the theatre are about a ten minute drive!
Many of the findings from excavations in Nikopolis are hosted in Archaeological Museum, 5 km away from Preveza. Click here to watch the video:

GREECE TRAVEL TOUR | Amazing Summer Holidays
Greece Summer 2018: Messinia - Epirus / Καλοκαίρι 2018: Μεσσηνία - Ήπειρος
This is our summer 2018 vacation. Our journey started in Avia which is is a small village just outside of the city of Kalamata, Greece. We stayed for a couple of days there in a beautiful airbnb house. Then we headed to Preveza, Epirus where we took the chance and made a one day trip to the legendary river Acherontas - passage of the souls to the underworld according to Greek Mythology. After a few days we returned to Kalamata and my wife's village Klima. 2 weeks after theend of our 15 days summer vacation, we planned a trip to Kardamili, a very beautiful, small village in Messinian Mani. There we visited Foneas beach with its amazing blue waters and cliffs for awesome jumps. My all time favorite beach!!!
We had the time of our lives, I am not gonna lie about that. We enjoyed the good company of our family, friends and cousins. See you all next summer, enjoy life and always have fun!
The video was shot with just a Xiaomi Redmi Pro (no gimbal) and the underwater scenes and jumps were made possible with just a cheap waterproof case. Luckily my phone is still in a great working condition. Editing was done in Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015 using basic effects cause my PC doesn't have much of a horse power!
Thanks for watching, thumps up, comment and maybe share.
