Manchester, the cultural and commercial capital of Northwest England. Famed for its Grand Victorian civic architecture, built on the wealth of the cotton and textile trade. It includes the magnificent Neo-gothic Town Hall. Recent years have seen striking modern additions such as the Imperial War Museum North and the Beetham Tower. A vibrant, cosmopolitan metropolis, Manchester is home to many bars and cafes, and a thriving cultural life. The Manchester Arndale Centre is a major retail hub, overlooked by the Wheel of Manchester. Manchester Art Gallery is visited by around 400,000 people each year. The modern arts centre, The Lowry, named after the prominent local artist, stages a wide array of cultural events. Standing in Sam's Chop House Bar is the artist's statue. Art has found its way into the architecture of this colourful city too. Equally colourful are the Mancunians, as the city's residents are called. Known for enjoying themselves at celebrations such as the annual Manchester pride festival, or taking part in the city's legendary nightlife. Manchester is known as a party town, famous for its trendy clubs. Music has always been at the heart of the city, from folk and classical traditions, musical theatre and Opera, and pop-rock bands, such as New Order and Oasis. Old Trafford is where global superstar David Beckham first made his career with Manchester United Football Club. An exciting fusion of art, music and sport makes Manchester a cosmopolitan city of celebration.

Manchester United FC v Liverpool FC Premier League 24 February 2019 Old Trafford
Injury-hit Reds make their point
Injury-ravaged Manchester United will probably be happy to have secured a point against their bitter rivals from down the M62.
But despite regaining top spot,Liverpool will probably be kicking themselves at being unable stretch their lead at the summit to three points as both sides struggled to create anything meaningful in front of goal.
Recently, the Reds have had the luxury of a fully fit squad to pick from but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to dig deep into his reserves to keep the momentum going in the coming weeks with crucial Premiership and cup games to negotiate.
Having lost Nemanja Matic to a training ground knock,by half time Ander Herrera,Juan Mata and substitute Jesse Lingard had all been replaced as the hosts to were forced to re-shuffle.
In a otherwise uneventful opening period,Lingard went round Alisson but failed to convert and Romelu Lukaku headed weakly goalwards when well positioned.
The Merseysiders did dominate possession but danger man Mo Salah was well policed and Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof proved a dominant centre back pairing.
For a short period at the start of the second half,United were in command and driven on by a raucous Old Trafford crowd, gave Virgil van Dyke and his rearguard some anxious moments without creating any clear openings.
A disallowed effort for offside was the nearest they came before Klopp's crew regained the initiative but again failed to cause concern to David de Gea's goal.
As the game fizzled out,Smalling just failed to reach a cross which could have maintained his side's Champions League position .now occupied by Arsenal.
Lukaku, forced out wide, did get in a telling cross or two but still lacks confidence although there was a bit more from the underperforming Alexis Sanchez who may find himself in the starting line up in the coming weeks as resources become stretched

Keeping The Faith: Manchester's Twisted Wheel - Brianna Riley
Northern Soul was an underground phenomenon, with black American soul music taking the North of England by storm in the late 1960s. Manchester's Twisted Wheel was one of the first clubs to host the infamous 'all-nighters' and it is still known to have defined the sound of Northern Soul. With a turbulent history and having faced inevitable demolition in 2013, the Twisted Wheel may have vanished from the streets of Manchester but the Northern Soul scene lives on.
