THINGS TO DO IN BATTAMBANG CAMBODIA - travel guide
Hello MyLoves!
In this video I am taking you to some of the best places in the sleepy town of Battambang, which is also called the art capital of Cambodia. We managed to visit only four places due to the weather conditions but I will list down below all the extras you must see!
Wait for the food and coffee guide, that will be a separate video! ;)
1. Wat Ek Phnom - Ek Phnom temple ruins: no entrance fee (at least we didn’t see any ticket office)
2. Phnom Sompov: You can spend there the whole day as there are different sites within the mountain to visit.
-- How to get to Phnom Sompov? Rent a motorbike, or a good bicycle. It is located 13 km from the town. Once you are at the mountain you can either climb/ walk up or pay $1-2 to a motorbike driver to take you to the top.
-- What to see? Killing caves - Flower Cave - Bat Cave (bats start flying out every day from around 5.15pm so get yourself comfortable with a beer or a coconut)
3. Phnom Banan - Banan temple on top of Banan Mountain. The view is beautiful from the top!
4. Please make sure you visit an ART GALLERY too! They are absolutely fantastic and the most famous one is ROMCHEIK5 but the city is also full of smaller, independent art galleries. Check for the opening time though!
5. You won’t see this in the video but you MUST SEE A CIRCUS SHOW at PHARE CIRCUS! It is an incredible theatre and performing arts organisation where students with difficult background, history of abuse and hardship can enroll. PHARE CIRCUS is doing an amazing job and many of its performers are famous dancers, theatre performers, painters etc. who had the chance to travel abroad and send the social message in many European countries as well as in the USA and Australia. DO NOT feel sorry for paying $15-25 for a ticket!!
6. BAMBOO TRAIN: Unfortunately the weather was not on our side and it was raining quite a lot in Battambang so we couldn’t ride the Bamboo train, however, it is much fun to do so and it is worth your time, money and effort! :)

So many cool things to do in Battambang | Loving Battambang (Cambodia Ep 4)
Battambang is the capital of Cambodia's northwest province, and we have heaps of things to do in Battambang. Despite it being VERY hot, we managed a day of exploring on foot, we saw loads of markets, caught the awesome bamboo train, and went to the circus. There weren't too many other tourists in Battambang, but we discovered why those who do make it there, really enjoy themselves. And this vlog is just part one!

Battambang, Cambodia | What to see in Battambang in 1 day! | South East Asia Travel Vlog E66
TODAY:
-----------
Today we hit up the sights of Battambang! We hired a tuk tuk driver for $12USD ($17NZD) to show us around the town!
Our first stop was the Governor's residence, then we stopped at the Ta Bumbong Statue for a photo. After that we made our way out to the Bamboo train! Its $5USea for the ride, plus we tipped our driver $2 and bought him a drink at the half way point - so all up $13USD ($18.50NZD). Definitely worth a stop though, was way more fun than we thought!!
Next up we went to Sampeou Mountain (Battambang Bat Caves) and made it in time to see the bats leaving! It's the craziest thing, apparently over 3 million bats leave the caves in the every night to go feed before returning around 4am. It was so surreal, the endless stream of bats went on for at least 2 hours. Our tuk tuk driver took us to an entrance to the cave that overlooked the forest and we got to see the best sunset! Was such a great day!

Things to do in Battambang Travel Guide | Top Attractions Cambodia
Battambang is one of the most under-rated travel destinations in Cambodia and SE Asia. More relaxed and less touristy than nearby Siem Reap it's the perfect place to decompress after spending time visiting the temples of Angkor. From its crumbling French colonial charms to its thriving local markets, it's the perfect city for exploring on foot or by bicycle. The following is a list of the top attractions and things to do in Battambang as presented in the form of travel videos in no particular order:

1) A trip on the infamous 'bamboo train' is an absolute must for anybody visiting Battambang. These makeshift trains, known locally as Norry (ណូរី)) are located just outside of the city limits of Battambang. Powered by a six horse power engine and speeding along at 50 km/h makes for an exhilarating ride. The return trip costs $5 per person; however, I must warn you that when you reach the midway point you'll be hassled quite aggressively to purchase sodas and tip your driver.
2) The rural countryside and village areas outside of Battambang beckons cultural vultures. The opportunity to sample local delicacies such as bamboo sticky coconut milk rice and even fried crickets are not to be missed. Aside from sampling food, explore rural homes to witness how rice cakes and scarves are made using simple tools and human powered instruments. Finally, spend time wandering down many of the colorful local markets.
3) Although Battambang is a city that is highly negotiable on foot, hopping on a bicycle and pedaling around to your hearts content is even better way to get around. Some of the top highlights include biking along the scenic Sangker River, Old Railway Train Station and the Governor's House. Along the way you'll notice a plethora of Buddhist temples (know locally as 'wat') along with some gorgeous parks which make perfect rest stops.
4) There are plenty of restaurants to indulge in local Khmer dishes; however, an even better opportunity is to learn how to make Cambodian food yourself. Nary's Kitchen offers half day cooking courses for $10 which includes a trip to a local market along with preparing three dishes. One of those dishes, Amok (steamed dish in a coconut cream sauces served in a banana leaf) is native to Battambang. The other two dishes, Lok Lak and spring rolls are equally as fun to make.
5) Visiting one of the many temples that are dotted all over Battambang is highly recommended. We were fortunate enough to visit one during Khmer New Year (Cambodian New Year) when celebrations, festivities and other special events were taking place.
6) The rural outskirt areas of Battambang are quite a distance from the city center; therefore, it's a great idea to hire a tuk-tuk driver for the day to help you explore. The ride itself should cost no more than $12 for the day. If you're looking to only do a half day tour you can negotiate a better rate.
7) Finally, don't leave Battambang without first watching the incredible 'New Circus' Cirque Nouveau performance at Phare Ponleu Selpak. The highly skilled Khmer youth who perform at this circus will mesmerize you with their acrobatic, juggling and acting skills. Moreover, the event is all for a great cause, as the proceeds go towards supporting the NGO school for disadvantaged children.
I hope you enjoy these travel recommendations for ways to spend your free time in Battambang, Cambodia.

Things to do in Battambang, Cambodia - Cooking Classes and Bat Caves
Fantastic couple of days in Battambang - we wished we'd stayed longer then two nights. Its' very cheap here even for Cambodia and with very little western influence. The gym here was 23p!!!!
• Get to the Bat Caves for around 6pm not earlier as suggested by the locals. you'll only be waiting around for the best part of an hour and you won't miss anything because the bats stream out for around 40minutes.
• If you plan to climb to the top of Phnom Samphou you don't need to pay for a motorbike taxi when you the get there. The walk is stunning and takes around 35 minutes with breaks to get to the top. Whatever you're told
• Take part in Nary's Cooking Class. Its only $10 per person whereas everywhere else in Cambodia charges at least $20 per person. You can find it on google!

Have you ever seen more than a million bats fly out of a cave into the setting sun? If not you gotta check out this travel video of Battambang, Cambodia.
In this video you will join us on a bicycle Butterfly tour of the Battambang country side and see how the Khamer villagers live their daily lives, producing everything from rice paper and rice wine to fish paste.
Additionally, you will get to see up close footage of over a million bats flying out of the Phnom Sampeou caves about 15 km from Battambang centrum. Grab a beer on the 2nd story of the Bat Pub and watch the magic unfold.
About Battambang:
Battambang is the capital city of Battambang province in northwestern Cambodia.
Founded in the 11th century by the Khmer Empire, Battambang is the leading rice-producing province of the country. For nearly 100 years it was a major commercial hub and provincial capital of Siamese province of Inner Cambodia (1795-1907), though it was always populated by Khmer, with some ethnic Vietnamese, Lao, Thai and Chinese. Battambang remains the hub of Cambodia's northwest, connecting the region with Phnom Penh and Thailand.
The city is situated on the Sangkae River, a tranquil, small body of water that winds its way picturesquely through Battambang Province. As with much of Cambodia, French Colonial architecture is a notable aspect of the city, with some of the best-preserved examples in the country.

Bat caves and bamboo trains in Battambang //Cambodia Travel
Taking a full day tour in Battambang was the best experience!
I got to really see the daily lives of the people here, and how they make a living making rice paper, rice noodles, and selling goods in the market!
The bamboo train was one of my big draws of coming here and is a one way track. If there is an oncoming train, the train with the least amount of people has to disassemble their train and let the other pass! Another thing that drew me to Battambang was to see the bat caves! Millions and millions of bats fly out every night at dusk in a (not so single) formation. I ended the night at the circus, this circus was described to me as a cirque de sole of sorts. It was really cool to see this school teach this kids how to be performers and help them to have a better life!
Definitely go to Battambang if you find yourself in Cambodia!
