Tijuana, Mexico - Cultural Center (La Bola) & other sights along Avenida de los Héroes
The Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT), affectionately known as La Bola (The Ball ) because of its distinct round shape, is just one of many cultural delights along the Paseo de los Héroes (Avenue of the Heroes). The avenue is dotted with various sculptures and statues of local heroes, mythical people and even a huge statue of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. All of this is located in the are of Tijuana known as Zona Rio.

ZONA RIO
The Zona Rio is a fashionable middle class Tijuana neighborhood known for its shopping, night clubs, and restaurants.
It is dominated by Paseo de los Heroes, a wide, divided and usually very busy street. The major intersections of Paseo de los Heroes are circuses, each with a large statue of a hero. Lesser heroes appear as busts along the grassy center of the avenue.
As circular intersections are almost unheard of in the US, the Zona Rio has a distinctly foreign look to the American eye, despite the fact that it is only a mile or so from the border. That you seldom see tourists in this zone adds to the sense of being truly abroad.
A visit to the Zona Rio presents a sharp, mostly favorable, contrast to the touristy Zona Centro. Knowing Spanish will be very helpful here, but non-Spanish speakers need not be deterred.
Destinations include the Mercado Hidalgo, a large open farmer's market, the Plaza Rio, a popular shopping mall, and countless restaurants.........

TIJUANA CULTURAL CENTER
The Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT) is a cultural center in the Zona Río district of Tijuana, Mexico. The center opened 20 October 1982, and accommodates more than a million visitors per year.
A major feature of the complex is an OMNIMAX cinema designed by architects Pedro Ramirez Vazques and Manuel Rossen Morrison. It is the only IMAX cinema in Tijuana, and has come to be popularly known as La Bola (The Ball). The cinema, which uses a 360-degree projector to surround viewers with a panoramic image, has 308 seats.
The OMNIMAX cinema has been part of the cultural center since the complex first opened in 1982. In October of that year, it premiered the film El pueblo del sol, which was made especially for the cinema's opening. The film presents images from the most representative regions of Mexico, and got very good reviews. It was the cinema's only film for 13 years. Today, the center offers a daily selection of films; it premieres about four films per year.

Cecut, Centro Cultural Tijuana embodies the classic artistry and culture of Mexico and is true icon of Tijuana. Dating back to as old as 1982, the Centro cultural center reflects the true essence of the blend of contemporary and historical. The Centro Cultural Tijuana (Cecut) occupies three buildings of the most distinctive and unique architecture in Mexico with facilities like IMAX, beautiful concert hall, which has a room for around a thousand visitors and it is mostly used for private concerts and plays. It has lecture rooms, video room, café, and a bookshop. There are several spaces for temporary small exhibits. The most recentely held exhibition in Cecut, was YUMANOS. Yumanos Jalkut, el The world and Divine Serpant is one of temporary exhibitions. The Yumanos indigenous tribes were the original inhabitants of Baja California. It models the myths about their specific theory of the origin and evolution of the universe and of relating to the evolution or genesis of the human race through their material production.
