4. Lighthouse Ratnagri
Ratnagiri Lighthouse is situated in the Ratnagiri Fort, Ratnagiri Lighthouse stands on the southern bastion known as Siddha Buruj of this horse shoe shaped fort. A small passage by the side of fort wall leads to this lighthouse. The lighthouse was built to guide ships traveling in the Arabian Sea as well as to keep vigil. Initially constructed as a stone mound in the 1800s, the lighthouse was rebuilt and improved along the way by first constructing a 10 m brick and stone tower with a wick lamp in 1867 which was later replaced in the 1940s with a 12.5 m steel tower with a gas flashing light. Now the lighthouse has a 15 m tower with a metal halide lamp, a radio beacon, and storm warning equipment.

Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who was the leader of the independence struggle is known as Father of the Indian unrest against the British rule. He was born in 1856 in Ratnagiri. Lokmanya Tilak lived for 10 years in a typical Konkani house which is situated in the Tilak colony in the centre of the city of Ratnagiri.

The Tilak family lived on rent in Indirabai Gore’s house. At that time, LokmanyaTilak’s father worked as a teacher in Ratnagiri. Tilak’s native village was Chikhalgaon in Dapoli. Tilak’s birthplace in Ratnagiri has been preserved by the Archaeological Department of the state of Maharashtra and it has been declared as a memorial.
There is a statue of Lokmanya Tilak in the outside premises. The birthday of Lokmanya Tilak is celebrated here every year. This memorial is open for tourists on all the days other than Monday. Recalling his enormous contribution to the freedom struggle, you feel inspired by seeing this memorial.

Tilak Museum, situated in Narayan Peth on the second floor of Kesari Wada is one of the most important museums in the city of Pune. Dedicated to Lokmanya Tilak, the museum houses the pictures, paintings, letters written by and to him and his personal belongings like clothes, nutcrackers, footwear, the wall clock and library. One can also find Tialk’s Genealogical Table and Horoscope, Juvenile pieces of works, certificates, a replica of his study room and Mandela prison cell. Major attraction of the museum is 'Gita Rahasya', the famous granth written by Tilak in 'Mandale'. The biography and photographs related to him exhibited in the museum gives a clear information about his life. The museum opens from 10 am. to 01 pm. and from 03 pm. to 06 pm every day. Entrance is free.
