Athens Travel Guide
Travel video about destination Athens in Greece.
Athens is a lively city set in historic surroundings.Likavittós is a two hundred and seventy-seven metre high limestone rock that dominates the city. It towers up above several buildings and on its summit there’s a small chapel. The capital of Greece has a long history. It was founded three thousand five hundred years ago and had its golden age during Greek Antiquity under the democratic rule of Perikles. At that time the symbol of one Europe’s most influential cultures was created, Greek’s national sanctuary, the Acropolis. It took nine years to build the great temple of the goddess Athene, The Parthenon, that was completed in 438 B.C. Unique among all other Greek temples, with its imposing appearance and artistic decoration this temple signified the great influence and power of ancient Athens. With its striking majestic appearance and timeless elegance it was more magnificent than any other building in Greece. Six female figures, the Karyatides, support the southern hall of the Ionic Temple of Erechtheion that stands on sacred ground close to the main temple. Since the beginning of the 4th century the mythical kings Kekrops and Erechtheu were worshiped here until the city’s subsequent decline. Legend has it that during a contest between the gods Poseidon left the imprint of his trident on a rock upon which Athene created an olive tree. Throughout its history the temple served many purposes and the Turks, somewhat disrespectfully, transformed the Erechtheion into a harem. The evening sun descends slowly across the ruins of Ancient Greece. The marble of the temple shines golden as though to thank the gods for creating this remarkable city. A city in which both antiquity and the present unite: a symbol of the Occident.

Athens Tours Video
Athens Tours Video, the Greek capital is undergoing a radical period of urban renewal that did not stop with the 2004 Olympics. The magnificent Acropolis, crowned by the iconic Parthenon temple, rises above the city, watching the sprawling modern metropolis evolve. Athens is now a conspicuously wealthier, more sophisticated cosmopolitan city. The shift is evident in a gradual gentrification and the new art and leisure precincts around town, and in the lifestyles of the hedonistic, trend-conscious Athenians. Stylish new restaurants, shops and revamped hotels continue to open.
Perhaps Athens Tours Video most significant change is in the historic centre, virtually unrecognisable since cars were banished, with most significant ancient sites linked in what has become Europes longest and arguably most stunning pedestrian promenade. This huge archaeological park has reconciled past and present, with the citys cultural and social life once again taking place around the ancient monuments and surrounding neighbourhoods. Athens remains a city of contradictions, as frustrating as it is seductive. It is the oldest city in Europe, yet still in a state of transition. Its one of Europes safest and liveliest cities -- a heady mix of grunge and grace with an undeniable urban soul.
Enjoy this amazing Athens Tours Video!

Athens | A walk in Plaka - Episode 5
EPISODE 5 - Plaka is the district to the north of the Acropolis that corresponds pretty much to the centre of the ancient city of Athens, and retains that old, timeless feeling. Modernity hasn't penetrated much into Plaka, which keeps its old tavernas and cafes, as well as elegant examples of 19th century neoclassical architecture. A walk through Plaka can turn up all kinds of delights.

BEAUTIFUL ATHENS - Must Visit AKROPOLIS
In this short video, we share with you some of the highlights of our One-Day-Walking Tour.
If I must summarize Athens in one word, I'd say, BEAUTIFUL.
Despite the need of being alert in crowded areas for pick pockets and scams, grafitis on city buildings(THIS HAPPENS IN ALMOST ALL MAJOR EUROPEAN CITIES),
just walk around the historical sites, look at the remains of history, visualize yourself standing in a city built aproximately 3000 years ago. Art back in the B.C. era are timeless. Even the marbles flooring on the Acropolis, dates back thousands of years.
Acropolis of Athens by Leo von Klenze (1846)
Athens is one of the oldest named cities in the world, having been continuously inhabited for at least 5000 years.[1] Situated in southern Europe, Athens became the leading city of Ancient Greece in the first millennium BC, and its cultural achievements during the 5th century BC laid the foundations of western civilization.
We apologize if the video didn't show enough of Athens, you need to come down to see it for yourself! =D
irene, an outstanding Athens & Delphi tour guide
Kong Yuen Sing May 20, 2014. Back from a tour of Greece with 34 travellers from May 8 - 18, 2014.
Athens Tour Guide, Irene (3rd from right, standing, middle row) was an outstanding as she was able to entertain and educate the group on the long coach ride to and fro Athens to Delphi.
On the last day, the group asked her to sing as she was an Opera Scholarship awardee. Suddenly, she sang Auld Lang Syne beautifully at the end of the Athens tour. The Singaporean and Malaysian travellers clapped loudly. I managed to videoed the last few lines of her singing for my fellow travellers to remember her passion and hard work as a local tour guide. In this video, three calls of encore were heard but she would not sing anymore. Singing is not part of the job!
Tour Manager Andy Yuan pecked her on the cheeks to say goodbye..
To Singaporean tour managers who are usually younger and who favour younger pretty local guides, Irene proves that an older European local guide can be solid gold, with the depth of expertise, care and good humour to win the hearts of jaded Singaporean travellers as the video shows.
In my European tours, the old lady local tour guides are very passionate about their work, with some so upset as numerous Singaporeans wander off snapping photos instead of paying attention to their lectures about the places of interests!
