Vidurashwatha (ವಿದುರಾಶ್ವತ್ಥ) : Jallianwala Bagh of the South
Vidurashwatha (Kannada:ವಿದುರಾಶ್ವತ್ಥ) is a small village located in the Gauribidanur taluk of Chikkaballapur district in the state of Karnataka, India. Situated near the Karnataka - Andhra Pradesh border and about 6 km from Gauribidanur, it had a major role to play in the freedom movement of India. The name Vidurashwatha is derived from that of a big Ashwatha (Ficus religiosa) tree located in this village. According to a legend of the times of Mahabharata, this tree was planted by Vidura, a courtier in the kingdom of Dhritarashtra; and hence the name Vidurashwatha. Unfortunately, in 2001, this ancient tree fell to the ground. There is also Naga Devatha Temple which is as old as the tree, here people do the prathishtapana of the naga god, to fulfil their desires, like having child, do better in business etc., the pooja here is done to alleviate all problems concerned with Naga dosha.

Nandi Hills, Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka
Nandi Hills, also known as Nandidurg or Nandi Betta is an ancient hill fortress situated in a district called Chikkabalapur in Karnataka. Situated near the town of Nandi, the ancient belief is that they are the origin of the Arkavathy River.
Nandi hills witnessed the first ever attack of the army led by Cornwallis against Tipu Sultan of Mysore in 1791. Tipu Sultan and later the British used this place as a retreat during the summer seasons and a residence was built by Francis Cunningham for Sir Mark Cubbon.
The place due to its favourable climatic conditions also instilled interest amongst horticulturists who experimented with different species of plants. Many trees including Eucalyptus, Coffea Arabica are found here. Birdwatchers and photographers consider it as one of the ideal places of interest with the presence of rare species of birds like the Nilgiri Woodpigeon, Peregrine Falcon and Shaheen Falcon. Uropeltid snakes, Whistling Thrush and Yellow throated Bulbul can also be traced. This place is also one of the favorite abodes for migrant species like flycatchers and warblers during the winters.
Slowly it is gaining prominence as a popular tourist destination. It was developed as a proper hill station during the British Raj. One has to climb about 1,175 steps to reach this mesmerizing spot. It has become quite popular weekend outing spot for the Bangaloreans.

Short Rides From Bangalore | Avalabetta and Devanahalli Fort
Need an option to get away for a short drive from the city without having to spend a lot of money? A less crowded quiet place, perhaps?
Well, Avalabetta is a good option (Google location given below). An hour-and-a-half to two-hours ride is all it takes to reach this place. Located off the Bangalore-Hyderabad highway after Chikkaballapura (You need to take a left after a few kilometers, so stay on the service road).
The roads are quite good, and you will also get a glimpse of the village life on the way. The tree-lined village roads are a delight to ride on away from the maddening traffic of the city. Once you reach the hills base, there is a cement road which leads all the way to the top of the hill. There is a forest department guest house on the top with a view point nearby. But don't stop there. Find the steps that lead up to a temple over there (It comes on the right side before reaching the guest house). Once you climb the steps to reach the temple, there are two ways. On the left, the steps continue and will take you further up to the summit of the hill with a good view. But to go the Avalabetta cliff photo point, take the path which is on the right from the temple. There are several view points on this path and also a pond with good reflections. Even thought the cliff has been fenced off (although in our country, people will find a way around it :-D), there are other places to take good photos over here or just relax and enjoy the view of the valley and other hills in the distance.
There are NO food options on Avalabetta. Some villages may sell some snacks, buttermilk, and water. Other than that, no eateries there. Carry your own food or have it on the way in one of the hotels on the Bangalore-Hyderabad highway.
After spending some time on Avalabetta, you can either visit Gudibande Fort which is around 20 kms from here or you can head back to Bangalore (like we did) and visit Devanahalli Fort on the way back which can be seen right from the Highway. This fort is a historic place and also the birth place of Tippu. There is a whole village inside the fort. Although there isnt much to do here and no museums either, you can walk around and see the ruins and get a glimpse of the village life. Good place for some photo shoots too.
