The Tohoku Shinkansen (東北新幹線, Tōhoku Shinkansen) is a shinkansen line that connects Tokyo with Aomori at the northern tip of Honshu. It was opened in 1982 and completed to Aomori in 2010. The Tohoku Shinkansen is operated by the East Japan Railway Company, commonly known as JR East.
Two branch lines, the Akita Shinkansen (秋田新幹線) and the Yamagata Shinkansen (山形新幹線), provide shinkansen connections to the prefectures after which they are named. Unlike regular shinkansen lines, these two branch lines use the tracks of existing train lines, employ somewhat narrower train sets and run at lower speeds after branching off from the Tohoku Shinkansen.
The Hayabusa is the fastest train category along the Tohoku Shinkansen, serving only the major stations between Tokyo and Shin-Aomori. With speeds of up to 320 km/h, the Hayabusa is the fastest train in Japan. Some Hayabusa continue beyond Shin-Aomori along the Hokkaido Shinkansen to Hakodate. Between Tokyo and Morioka, some trains are coupled with a Komachi train.

Episode 3 of my Japan Vlog as a railway fans point of view. A special Vlog featuring the Tohoku Shinkansen.
Tohoku Shinkansen is my favorite Shinkansen Line because of my favorite Shinkansen trains running on the Tohoku Shinkansen. I am heading to Morioka from Tokyo on the Yamabiko 45 hauled by E3 Series in Komachi livery and E5 Series attached. After a quick turnaround in Morioka, I return to Tokyo on the Hayabusa which is the fastest using E5 Series. I really enjoyed my Shinkansen ride!

1982年（昭和57年）6月23日に東北新幹線開業。
2002年（平成14年）東北の駅百選に選定される。
新幹線改札口は、駅3階コンコースに「新幹線中央改札口」「新幹線南改札口」の2か所。同フロアに、在来線と新幹線の乗り換え専用の改札口として、「新幹線中央乗換改札口」「新幹線南乗換改札口」の2か所。合計4か所の改札口がある。
2018年度（平成30年度）の1日平均乗車人員は27,771人で、JR東日本の新幹線駅では東京駅、大宮駅に次いで3番目に多い。

In 2002, selected as one of the 100 best stations in Tohoku.
There are two Shinkansen ticket gates on the concourse on the 3rd floor of the station: Shinkansen Central Ticket Gate and Shinkansen Minami Ticket Gate. On the same floor, there are two ticket gates dedicated to transferring between conventional lines and Shinkansen: Shinkansen central transfer gate and Shinkansen south transfer gate. There are a total of 4 ticket gates.
The average number of passengers per day in FY2018 was 27,771. This is the third largest JR East Shinkansen bullet train station after Tokyo and Omiya stations.
