ONE OF THE HARDEST HIKES I'VE DONE! (Mt. Kinabalu via Ferrata, Sabah, Malaysia)
We decided to do Mt. Kinabalu via Ferrata just after Christmas, and boy it was definitely a hike to remember! To reach Low’s Peak only takes 2 days and 1 night, but it is a lot harder than people think it really is. The trek up to the summit is approximately 9km, with a total ascent of 2,220m. It’s a long uphill struggle the whole way!
When you reach the top, you are fatigued, and there is no mercy on your legs as you have to endure the same distance and steepness but this time, going down.
You want the perfect leg day workout? Come to Mt. Kinabalu.
The adventure is definitely worth it. Mt. Kinabalu is one of every hiker’s bucket list. It has beautiful vegetation, holding approximately 6,000 species of plants, 326 species of birds and more than a hundred mammalian species. Mount Kinabalu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the 20th most prominent mountain in the world by topographic prominence.

It is also a gateway to Kinabalu National Park, the home of 4,095m-high Mount Kinabalu.Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, made up of 5 major islands off the coast, is home to beaches, coral reefs, tropical jungle and waterfront houses built on stilts. Near the airport, Tanjung Aru is a beach area with dramatic sunsets, plus dining and nightlife. Sabah Museum displays headhunter artifacts and hosts an ethnobotanical garden and a zoo. Visitors can follow boardwalks through protected mangrove forest and bird habitat at Kota Kinabalu Wetland Centre or observe orangutans at Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, which is about 20km south of the city.

————————————————————————————————
In August 2018, I decided to climb Mount Kinabalu to see if I can adapt to higher altitude. Kota Kinabalu proves more than just the mountain that's attractive to me. The small town was filled with amazingly friendly people and I really enjoyed my self before and after the climb. The Sutera Sanctuary Lodges was unexpectedly amazing. The accommodation was comfortable for what it is and the food they serves was delicious! This is not a paid feedback.
How much did I pay for the climb. excluding airfare and accommodation outside of the climb?
Package at Sutera Sanctuary Lodges lodges
Accommodation + Meals + 1 bunk bed : SGD 457
Money Needed to exchange:
1. Return transport from airport to Kinabalu National Park : 5+5 + 25 + 25 = RM60 ( SGD 22 )
2. Fees to Kinabalu National Park :
* Climb permit @ 200 MYR
* Park entrance fee @ 15 MYR
* Insurance @ 7 MYR
* Mountain guide fee 230 MYR (can be shared up to 4 pax) I shared with another person
* Shuttle transfers KNP office-Timpohon gate-KNP office @ 17 MYR
* Total : RM469 = SGD 169

My first time going out of the country alone. I thought it would be boring and lonely but Kota Kinabalu has a lot to offer aside from Mt. Kinabalu. It seems to be a safe place to stroll alone at night.
Traveling alone is like a dream, meeting unfamilliar faces, flying onto places, and keeping moments you alone can remember.
