Alamut
Alamut Geographic Region is a region in Iran including western and eastern parts in the western edge of the Alborz range, between the dry and barren plain of Qazvin in the south and the densely forested slopes of the Mazandaran province in the north. Starting from Qazvin toward Alamut, passing through the first range of hills, curvatures, forms, scars, wrinkles are significant themes in nature's composition of this area. Two big citadels of Ismailis, Lambsar and Alamut castles, are in this area. Hassan-i Sabbah and his Hashshashin controlled the area for many years.

Alamut was a mountain fortress located in Alamut region in the South Caspian province of Daylam near the Rudbar region in Iran, approximately 100 km from present-day Tehran.Between 1090 and 1256 AD, under the leadership of Hasan-i Sabbah, Alamut became the site of intense activity for the Shi'a Nizari Ismai'lis of Persia, along with a smaller subgroup known as the Assassins in Syria, functioning as the headquarters of their state, which was in fact a series of unconnected strategic strongholds scattered throughout Persia and Syria, surrounded by huge swathes of hostile territory .In 1256, Ruknu-d-Dīn Khurshāh surrendered the fortress to the invading Mongols, and its famous library holdings were destroyed.Sources on the history and thought of the Ismailis in this period are therefore lacking and the majority extant are written by their detractors.

Alamut fortress, The Eagle's Nest
The Alamut valley lies in the Alburz mountain range, in the north of modern-day Iran, half way between Tehran and the Caspian Sea. The castle is built on a narrow ridge on top of a high rock in the heart of the mountains and dominating an enclosed valley, about 25 kilometres in length. More than 6,000 feet above sea level, the castle lies several hundred feet above the base of the rock, and could only be reached by a narrow, steep and winding path. The approach to the rock was through the narrow gorge of the Alamut river, between perpendicular and sometimes overhanging cliffs.
Fortress of Alamut in the central Alborz Mountains of Iran. Alamut Castle (2160 m) was built into the rock in the 9th century. The name means Eagle's Nest
