Central Square Plaza - 2100 Travis St - Houston
Central Square Plaza originally consisted of a connected 12-floor and 14-floor office building as well as a parking garage and was formerly the Central Bank building. The building was also home to McCarthy's reboot of the famous Cork Club after he sold the Shamrock Hotel to Hilton.
THE ALAMO CENOTAPH-SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS
this monument commemorates the sacrifice of the Texan defenders of the Alamo. It was erected in 1936.
It stands on Alamo Plaza, the site of the battlefield.
The Alamo In San Antonio TX - Site Of The Famous Battle For Texas Independence
The Alamo in downtown San Antonio Texas is the site of the famous battle on March 2, 1836 that symbolizes the Texas Revolution against Mexico that eventually resulted in independence.
Although almost 200 greatly outnumbered defenders of the Alamo died in the battle against the troops of Mexican president and general Santa Ana, their determination inspired the battle cry Remember the Alamo, which has become legendary in Texas and American history.
The iconic structure that everyone recognizes is just a small part of the actual battlefield. It was originally named Mission San Antonio de Valero, and served as home to missionaries and their Indian converts for nearly seventy years. The current Alamo complex, including the familiar facade and structure that used to serve as a mission church, covers 4.2 acres of ground in downtown San Antonio.
Approximately 2.5 million tourists visit the Alamo each year. Admission is free, and it is definitely one of the most interesting places to go and things to see not just in San Antonio, but in all of Texas.
The Alamo is the centerpiece of San Antonio's booming downtown tourist complex, which also includes the River Walk, the Tower of the Americas, La Villita (the Little Village) and the Rivercenter Mall.
I also have a YouTube video focusing on the Cenotaph, the memorial dedicated to the Alamo defenders. Click on
The Alamo There have been hundreds of books written about the battle of the Alamo.
Panoramic View of The Alamo San Antonio Texas
I visited the Alamo and found it very interesting. The story of the Alamo had always been a historical one for me but after seeing the location and artifacts for myself it became very human.
From Feb.-23rd to Mar.6th 1836 some 1500 Mexican
troops led by General Santa Anna battled some 200 Texian and Tejano volunteers led by Colonel William Travis and Jim Bowie. Though the volunteers caused great injury to the Mexicans eventually they all fell in battle including Congressman Davy Crockett.
The Long Barracks - Part Of The Alamo In San Antonio Texas
Most people think of the Alamo in San Antonio Texas only as the famous facade they've seen in a series of Hollywood films. In fact, there's more than one building, and the Battle of the Alamo took place over a much bigger piece of ground than many visitors realize before they see the site.
The Long Barracks is a separate building - featuring its own museum - that many Alamo tourists don't take time to visit. It was a convent in the days when the Alamo was actually known as Mission San Antonio in the 1700s, although the original building looked very different than the one that exists today. At one time, there was even a second story arcade.
During the March 6, 1836 battle, Mexican soldiers fought their way into the interior of the compound, and much of the final action took place around the Long Barracks and the mission church that is now so famous.
The Long Barracks Museum offers a short (15 minute) film that tells more about it's history, but even if you don't watch the film, make sure you see two items on display there: Colonel Travis's signet ring, and Jim Bowie's knife.
The Long Barracks compound stands near the majestic Cenotaph, a memorial to the defenders of the Alamo. I've included some shots of it in this video.

The ALAMO San Antonio TX Adventure Part 1
The ALAMO San Antonio TX Adventure Part 1
This was during our vacation in San Antonio after our camping in South Llano River State Park in Junction Texas. We stayed at the historic Menger Hotel known to be the most haunted hotel in Texas, It is right next to the Alamo and River Walk. It's also close to shops and restaurants and some of San Antonio's historic buildings.
My husband told that it's haunted but I did not care. Am not afraid of ghosts because they won't do harm to you. They might scare you and that's about it. We stayed in Menger Hotel because it's one of the Historic Hotels in America. And if it's true that it's a haunted hotel am pretty sure the ghosts were Dwight Eisenhower, Babe Ruth and Oscar Wilde among other very famous legends...so, it's great lol !
Anyways, here's one of my favorite quote from Oscar Wilde:
You don't love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear.

Juan Seguin / Standing Their Ground: Tejanos at the Alamo
Juan Nepomuceno Seguin was a member of the leading family of San Antonio de Bexar. He served as a Texian military commander during the Texas Revolution and a Senator for the Republic of Texas. He was a political leader of San Antonio under Mexico, the Texas Republic, and the United States.
At the Alamo when the siege began, Seguin was sent out by William Barret Travis to seek reinforcements just prior to the final assault. He fought at San Jacinto and was ordered back to the Alamo to accept the surrender of the Mexican troops that had defeated his comrades.
Almost a year later, in February 1837, Seguin returned to bury the remains of his comrades. His speech, here quoted in one of the largest newspapers of the new Republic, would enshrine the memory of the Alamo defenders forever.

Sears To Close More Of Its Locations
Sears is quietly closing at least two dozen stores in 17 states, in addition to the 166 stores that the company previously said it would close this year.
Most of the stores on the new list will close by mid July, with liquidation sales beginning April 27.
Sears has not publicly announced many of the store closings slated for July. Business Insider confirmed the list of closing stores based on information from multiple Sears employees.

Those associates that are eligible will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores.

San Antonio Alamo
In this episode of Cheap Family Travel ( Nick, Regan, Maggie, and Kate spent the day at the San Antonio Alamo. The Alamo fortress was the center of the infamous Battle of the Alamo during the Texas Revolution. We enjoyed a walk along the Riverwalk in San Antonio, highlighted by a visit to the Alamo historic site. The Daughters of the Republic of Texas maintain the Texas Alamo and it is the most popular tourist attraction in Texas. We enjoyed learning about the Alamo, visiting the mission and long barracks and seeing artifacts in the Alamo museum. It was great to walk where famous Americans like Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett and William Travis made their last stand for liberty and to learn about the Battle of the Alamo. Sam Houston used the rally cry, Remember the Alamo! to inspire troops to defeat the Mexicans. Admission to the Alamo is free, which is perfect for a cheap family, but we recommend the audio tour to get the most out of your visit. So if you make it to San Antonio, Texas... Remember the Alamo!
