YOUR4X4 Episode 134: Broken Hill Part 1
This week we are exploring one of Australia’s most known gateways to the Outback - Broken Hill.
A popular kick off point or fuel stop for outback touring from the Eastern states, broken Hill is awash with history, appeal, sights and scenes that are well worth the time to explore.
For our first episode we join up with local identities and one of Australia’s most awarded tour guide companies, Tri State Safaris. But far from your typical outback tour, we are in for a real treat, as Mick and Joe from Tri State take us to a little known and highly protected location that is host to the world’s largest collection of ancient petroglyphs. Carved by the local aboriginals and dated to at least 11,000 years old, it’s an incredible experience to walk amongst such a site.
This episode also has plenty of off road touring, takes in the Living Desert Sculptures and we finish with a local astronomer for some outback star gazing.

CUMMINS Street Broken Hill Tour. Jones St 2 Murton St & Back. May 2016
Cummins Street is out the 'North' of Broken Hill. I rarely visited this street when I lived in the town, because I didn't know anyone who lived in it. But I have been told that over the recent years, parts of this street have some of the nicest houses that you will find in the hill.
We traverse the street near Rocky Hill with the Channel 7 'beacon' in sight, then travel down the street all of the way to Willyama High School and the North Pool. A quick turn around and we enjoy the visit back to the beacon.
The camera used is a Canon G7x mkii set on auto, typically x 1.5 zoom, handheld with stabilisation on. Thank you to Terry the Subaru driver.

Aero veiw of Lake Eyre-Great Australian Outback Flood 2010
The massive Lake Eyre system covers an area of 9,690 square kilometres, or roughly the size of Holland. Nearly one-sixth of Australia's landmass drains into Lake Eyre, but it has filled to capacity only three times in the past 150 years. When water flows in to part-fill the lake via great inland rivers including the Diamantina, Cooper Creek and the Warburton, the spectacle is breathtaking.
Whilst on our Aero Safari from Melbourne to Birdsville then onto William creek & Broken Hill, we flew over Lake Eyre during the 2010 great australian outback floods.
