Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal
The most perfect establishing shot of Kathmandu city - a pan across the most sacred temple with the most sacred river flowing next to it!
Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most significant Hindu temples of Lord Shiva in the world, located on the banks of the Bagmati River in the eastern part of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The temple served as the seat of the national deity, Lord Pashupatinath, Nepal was the only Hindu kingdom in the world up until 2007 Nepal now is a secular country . The temple is listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.
The temple is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams (Holy Abodes of Shiva on the continent). Hindus alone are allowed to enter the temple premises. Non-Hindu visitors are allowed to have a look at the temple from the other bank of Bagmati river.
It is regarded as the most sacred among the temples of Lord Shiva (Pashupati).
Pashupatinath Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in Kathmandu. It is not known for certain when Pashupatinath Temple was founded. But according to Nepal Mahatmaya and Himvatkhanda, the deity here gained great fame there as Pashupati, the Lord of the Animals. Pashupatinath Temple's existence dates back to 400 A.D. The richly-ornamented pagoda houses the sacred linga or phallic symbol of Lord Shiva. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the world come to pay homage to this temple, that is also known as 'The Temple of Living Beings'. 2011
There are many legends describing as to how the temple of Lord Pashupatinath came to existence here. Some of them are narrated below:-
The Cow Legend
Legend says that Lord Shiva once took the form of an antelope and sported unknown in the forest on Bagmati river's east bank. The gods later caught up with him, and grabbing him by the horn, forced him to resume his divine form. The broken horn was worshipped as a linga but overtime it was buried and lost. Centuries later an astonished herdsmen found one of his cows showering the earth with milk. Digging deep at the site, he discovered the divine linga of Pashupatinath.

triveni dham nawalparasi nepal
Triveni is situated near the Indian border where the River Narayani, or Gandak, emerges from the Siwalik ranges to flow into the Gangetic plains. It is called Triveni (meaning three streams or rivers) as the large Narayani River mingles with the smaller Sona and Pancha rivers. This place is often mentioned in the Hindu Scriptures for a number of reasons. There is the Balmiki Ashram, said to be the retreat where a pregnant Sita, banished by her husband Ram, took refuge in the great sage’s ashram and gave birth to her two sons, Lava and Kush. It was here that the sage wrote the epic Ramayana.
The place is also known as Hari-Har Kshetra, sacred to both Shaiva and Vaishnava followers of the Hindu religion. Hari means Vishnu and Har means Shiva. There is a temple enshrining the idol of Hari-Har – half Vishnu, half Shiva.
The site contains a holy place called Gajendra Mokshya Tirtha where according to the Barah Purana, a god worshipping elephant (Gajendra meaning Elephant King) was caught in the jaws of a powerful alligator while wading in the waters to pluck lotus flowers for worship. Lord Vishnu hearing his devotee’s prayer for help personally descended on the spot riding on his Garuda and killed the alligator with his Sudarshan Chakra (discus) and saved the elephant. This act of liberation (mokshya) of the elephant king from the clutches of the crocodile (graha) has earned this place the name Gajendra Mokshya. A big fair is held at this site on Magh Krishna Amabasya, or the dark night (no moon), in the month of Magh (Jan/ Feb). Pilgrims, from both the hills and plains of Nepal and from India, take a ritual bath in the river on this occasion.
Triveni can be reached by taking a link road from the Narayanghat-Butwal section of the East-West Highway.

Fascinating artefacts on display at a local shop at Thamel in Nepal
Thamel in Nepal, Kathmandu is heaven for tourists visiting the city. In one such shop, a shopkeeper introduces as Shri Krishna Thapaliya. He says, This is my shop. Many tourists used to visit Thamel before but the number of tourists visiting this year 2011 has lessened. This is a tourist market but since eight months less number of tourists visits this place. Nepal has 75 districts and Kathmandu is one of them. He shows a recycled bag made in Nepal which was used to keep rice before. Tourists like the bag a lot. He says, sometimes I charge Rs1,200 and Rs700-800. Then he shows bag which is used by both men and women and is made in Nepal. Some of these products are sold at wholesale and some at retail prices. Caps are also sold over here which are made of yak and sheep wool. The cap which is made of yak wool is hundred percent yak wool and some are mixed fifty percent yak and fifty percent sheep wool. This is made in Nepal by Nepali women in the valley of Kathmandu. We have souvenir hats of a new design. We have animal pattern hats which were so much in demand last year and even this year. We also have a national hat in Nepali. It has an important history behind it. It is in great demand among the tourists and I sell it for Rs500-700. The hat has a symbolic reference. Both sides of the hat refer to two large countries India and China and Nepal, a small country lies on top of it.
Thamel is in Kathmandu. It is a haven for tourists visiting the city. It contains numerous hotels, restaurants, and shops that cater specifically to western tourists. It is located in the northern region of Kathmandu past the government district on Tridevi Marj. Although some consider it to be overcrowded it has been used by westerners since the 1970's when hippies in the region discovered it. Although now it has become quite commercial. Thamel is an easy walk from anywhere in central Kathmandu. Though the roads can be quite busy during the day, and traffic can be quite heavy. The streets of Thamel are fascinating, though beware of the hash dealers and the violin sellers as they will try to rip you off. Most of the actual tourist draws are outside of the district, this is a good place to set up a home base to see the city from.

Erotic Art (Kam Sutra) in Temples of Kathmandu
There are so many temples in Kathmandu valley with erotic art and visitors can explore them. These are usually found carved in wooden structure, known as Tudal in local language, supporting roofs of the temples. These were mostly built during medival period. During these periods, many artist, architect, and sculpturist from India fled to Kathmandu due to Mughal invasion. And also these periods were heavily influenced by Tantra. So arts in these times were very much influenced by tantricism. Also it is believed that slaves were used as model.

| MAHA SHIVARATRI 2019 at PASHUPATINATH Temple | MANOJ BOHARA VLOG |
Maha Shivaratri has been very close to my heart since childhood and I am an avid visitor of Pashupatinath Temple. During this year's Maha Shivaratri as well, I went to Pashupatinath temple for almost a week. Because of Mahakumba Mela in India, a lot of Sadhus were not here in Kathmandu at the time of Maha Shivaratri. But the number of youngsters and other visitors was noteworthy. Over all, it was a great experience vlogging and visiting different sites in the festive time.
