Group Show
Crossing the Line: Contemporary Drawing and Artistic Process
Curated by: Larry Ossei-Mensah, Dexter Wimberly
Mixed Greens Gallery
531 W.26th St.
New York, NY
July 11th - August 16th, 2013
Opening: July 11th 06:00 PM - 08:00 PM
Mixed Greens is proud to present Crossing the Line:
Contemporary Drawing and Artistic Process, a group exhibition co-curated by
Dexter Wimberly and Larry Ossei-Mensah. The curators initiate an expansive visual
discourse that brings the act of drawing front and center, showing its importance
as the foundation of art making.
Crossing the Line features new works by a group of emerging female artists
hailing from Nigeria, the Dominican Republic/Haiti, South Korea, Trinidad, Iran,
and the United States. All are exploring drawing within the context of their
dynamic artistic practices and re-defining how drawing fits into the broader global
contemporary art conversation. The exhibition presents distinct approaches to
representational and abstract drawing, as well as experimental, site-specific mixed
media and video installations that are equally influenced by drawing.
Ruby Onyinyechi Amanze is a Brooklyn-based artist of Nigerian birth and British
upbringing who has found empowerment in the authenticity of the hybrid.
Amanze was recently awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to create a new body of
work in her native Nigeria to fully piece together the gaps in her identity. She has
been greatly influenced by memories of architecture and space, the politics of
home, nomadic stories, and urban landscapes. Drawing from her background in
textiles and printmaking, Amanze's drawings reflect a fragmented and layered
material sensibility that is highly intuitive to process. She received a BFA from
Tyler School of Art in 2004 and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy in 2006.
Residencies have included Cooper Union in NYC and Gallery Aferro in Newark, NJ.
Firelei Báez is a Haitian-Dominican artist who makes large-scale, intricate works on
paper indebted to a convergence of interests in anthropology, science fiction, black
female subjectivity, and women's work. Her art explores the humor and fantasy
involved in self-making within diasporic societies. Such societies often utilize
cultural ambiguities to build psychological and even metaphysical defenses
against cultural invasions. She received a BFA from The Cooper Union's School of
Art in 2004, participated in The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in
2008, and received an MFA from Hunter College in 2010. Her residencies include
The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Workspace and The Lower East Side Print
Shop. Báez's work has been written about in The New York Times, The LA Times,
and Art in America, among others. She was a recipient of the prestigious Joan
Mitchell Painters and Sculptors Award as well as the Jaque and Natasha Gelman
Award in Painting.
Born in Queens NY, Oasa Sun DuVerney's works on paper and video
performances use consumerist culture as a means to unmask our society's
collective aggression. DuVerney received her MFA from Hunter College and is the
2011 recipient of the Tony Smith Award. She exhibits her work nationally and has
been featured in the New York Times, the New York Daily News, and the Gotham
Gazette. She also won awards from the Brooklyn Arts Council and the Citizens
Committee for The Brooklyn Hi-Art Machine, a public project which brings
together a small Brooklyn neighborhood every summer to confront gentrification
through art making. In 2012, DuVerney's work was exhibited in the three-person
exhibition, Through a glass, darkly, at Postmasters Gallery in NYC and the group
exhibition, Me Love You Long Time, at Aljira Art Center in Newark, NJ. She is
currently an LMCC Workspace Artist-in-Residence. DuVerney lives in Brooklyn.
Sanam Enayati was born in the United States and raised in Tehran, Iran. Her
newest body of work investigates the physicality of basic human emotions. By
identifying one emotion and letting it transform and overlap with another, Enayati
seeks to create a new, non-familiar space/reality through a series of feminine
and domestic processes, repetitive movements, and obsessive behaviors. The
emotions inspire a series of compulsive movements within the non-familiar
space/reality, transmuting an orderly, obsessively made space into complete
chaos. After making marks as memories of that space, Enayati then abandons the
space and enters into the nostalgic episodes by making drawings and paintings.
Enayati holds a BFA from the Illinois Institute of Art in Chicago, IL, an MFA from the
School of Visual Arts in NYC, and a Masters of Fashion Design focused on
sociology and psychology from Istituto Marangoni in Milan, Italy.

OAK GLEN ARTIST FARIAD SHARES HIS PAINTINGS, DOCUMENTING THE POETRY IN LIFE AT REDLANDS COMMUNITY HOSPITAL FOUNDATION’S EVENING WITH THE ARTISTS
Fariad will be one of the Featured Artists at Redlands Community Hospital Foundation’s “Evening with the Artists” on Friday, April 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
OAK GLEN, Calif. – Using his rhythmic brushwork to “document the poetry in life”, contemporary impressionist painter Fariad finds inspiration all around him. Oak Glen’s own artist Fariad will be one of five artists featured during this year’s annual “Evening with the Artists” event, hosted by the Redlands Community Hospital Foundation on Friday, April 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Stan and Ellen Weisser Education Pavilion, located at 350 Terracina Blvd., Redlands, California 92373.
The Trinidad native grew up painting beaches, people and the rainforest there. Hailing from a family of artists, it was no surprise that by the age of 12 Fariad had his first exhibition of 36 paintings. In his late teens, he left his home in Trinidad to pursue an education in the United States where he was awarded an art scholarship to Syracuse University, NY. Fariad’s best education as he says came from painting on the streets of Los Angeles. where he sold his “Wildland Images” to all who shared interest in his work. Shortly after being discovered, he was hired to paint western covers for Harper Collins, NY.
“Painting for more than 40 years, I use my art to share a visual message in these changing times,” said Fariad.
He now spends most of his time at The Parrish Pioneer Ranch in the San Bernardino Mountains of California as he paints his life in Oak Glen –where his Wildland Images Gallery is located.
Fariad will join artists Evan Dahlke, Kathleen Robison, Sandy Simmons and Helen Bell for the annual “Evening with the Artists” event. Fariad’s artwork will be available for purchase during the event. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Redlands Community Hospital Foundation’s art fund.
The Foundation’s art program began in 1978 by Mary Anne Finley, a foundation member who wanted the hospital to have a more homey feeling. Finley worked fervently to raise funds to purchase art for the hospital. She retired in the 1990s and has since passed away, but her vision and legacy still lives on. Today, the hospital is home to more than 1,000 pieces of original art and exhibits more than 800 pieces along with historic photographs throughout the hospital.
“The art that adorns our hospital walls allows the imagination to run wild and awaken our spirits,” Jan Opdyke, president of the Redlands Community Hospital Foundation. “The positive energy experienced through art encourages the healing process.”
To see more of Fariad’s artwork, visit
Tickets for Evening with the Artist are $25. For more information or to RSVP, please call 909-335-5540 or visit: redlandshospital.org/foundation.

13 BIGGEST Houses
13 BIGGEST Houses
From mansions to palaces to crazy people who got money in ways we don't understand these are the 13 BIGGEST Houses.
Antilla is the name of a giant futuristic mansion in Mumbai, India and is the first billion dollar residential home to ever exist. It was commissioned by the world’s fifth richest man Mukesh Ambani, who is the owner of the biggest company in India, Reliance Industries. Mukesh’s 27 story mansion towers above the surrounding apartment high-rises and comes complete with a cinema complex, helipads, a health center, and hanging garden.
Hala Ranch is a 95 acre estate just north of Aspen, Colorado in the Rocky mountains. Hala Ranch originally belonged to a Saudi Prince named Bandar bin Sultan before it was purchased by an American hedge fund manager named John Paulson.10 years ago Hala Ranch was the most expensive estate ever listed in the U.S., priced at $135 million dollars in 2006. 135 million seems like a fair price for a 56,000 square foot area that trumps the White House in size.
50 Poplar Hill Drive, in Farmington Connecticut is the address of 50 Cent’s crazy crib. His
51, 567 square foot mansion comes complete with all the amenities any rapper could need: 21 bedrooms, 25 bathrooms, an indoor pool, a gym, a basketball court, a green screen studio, a recording studio, and an underground disco room complete with stripper poles. This pimped out mansion is as lavish as they come but has unfortunately cost 50 cent more than a million and has spiraled him into bankruptcy.
The Manor, also known as the Spelling Manor named after its previous owners, now belongs to a British heiress named Petra Ecclestone. The Manor is a 56,500 square foot estate in the posh neighborhood of Holmby Hills, California. Previously the most expensive home in America priced at 125, million dollars, it was sold at the low low price of 85 million to the heiress.
The Hearst Estate is a huge property that spans several hundred acres and includes a huge ranch and a herd of zebras. The property is actually made up of one main house and several smaller guest houses. Casa Grande, the main house is 65,000 square feet, with the other houses amassing a total of more than 10,000 square feet. This huge house has seen many celebrity guests and has famously been used as a backdrop in the Godfather films. Although originally a residence for the Hearst family, it was registered as a California State Park in 1957 and has been open for tourists to visit since.

Everything we sense visually in order to perceive this reality, passes through the Sphenoid bone. It IS the gateway or doorway into the mind. If our senses and perception can be manipulated with media and stimuli (propaganda), I posit, would be exactly why the Moloch Owl, the Monarch butterfly and the Luna Moth are chosen symbols of iconography by the Royal EL-itist ELders of the #Illuminati such as in Bohemian Grove, the White House layout, Big Pharma and so much more! Grasp the KEYSTONE that unlocks internal symbolism and displays of personal wisdom and #power!
