The River Ljubljanica and its Bridges
From Roman times to the construction of the railway in the mid-19th century, the Ljubljanica was a major trade and supply route.
On its way to Ljubljana, the river flows through the unique natural landscape of Ljubljana Marshes. Its bed is one of Slovenia's most important archaeological sites. Excavations have yielded objects dating from prehistory to the early modern period. Archaeologists believe that the river once had a cult status.
Ljubljana is a city of beautiful and architecturally interesting bridges. Its river, the Ljubljanica, is believed to have been first spanned by a bridge in the Roman period.
Today, the Ljubljanica owes its distinctive appearance to the architect Jože Plečnik, who designed the old city centre's river embankments, landscaped tree-lined riverside walks, including the well known weeping willow-lined terraced walk alongside the Trnovski pristan embankment, and built or renovated several of the city's bridges, including the famous Trnovo Bridge, Cobblers' Bridge and Triple Bridge, The heart of Ljubljana's social life are the Ljubljanica river embankments, densely scattered with lively cafés offering outdoor seating. A good way to see the old city centre and its famous bridges, picturesque buildings and vibrant embankments from a completely different angle is to join a tourist boat cruise along the river.
However, the Ljubljanica with its bridges is much more than just photogenic. It offers unique experiences which you simply must try. In the summer you can join a sup or a kayak tour and paddle through the city centre.
Trnovo (Ljubljana) (CC: slovenski, hrvatski, English)
Takrat so zaprli zadnji hlev z govedom.
(Wikipedia)
Ljubljana Hidden Corners: #4 Navje Memorial Park (Speech: English; CC: Eng-Slovene-Croatian-Serbian)
Navje Memorial Park (Slovene: Spominski park Navje), the redesigned part of the former St. Christopher's Cemetery (pokopališče pri sv. Krištofu), is a memorial park in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. It is located in the Bežigrad district, just behind the Ljubljana railway station.
St. Christopher's Cemetery was located in the area of today's Exhibition and Convention Centre. Between the late 18th century and the early 20th century, it was the central town cemetery. In 1906, a new cemetery was established next to Holy Cross Church and most new burials gradually took place there. After 1926, burials no longer took place at St. Christopher's Cemetery, and it was destroyed in 1955 together with the two churches associated with it in order to create a fairground for the 7th Congress of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia.
In the 1930s, a small portion of the old cemetery, including the arcade porch that was built around 1865, was transformed in a pantheon of famous Slovenes. The memorial park was designed by the architects Jože Plečnik and Ivo Spinčič in collaboration with the gardener Anton Lah. Already in 1932, Plečnik had proposed building a monumental church on the same site, which would include a crypt with tombs of prominent Slovenes. The project, planned together with his student Edvard Ravnikar, was however rejected, and so Plečnik proposed the creation of Navje Memorial Park.
Between 1936 and 1940 several gravestones and tombstones of notable personalities were moved into the park, but because of the Axis invasion of Yugoslavia in April 1941 the project was never completed. Many of the gravestones planned to be moved into Navje Memorial Park, such as those of Prešeren, Trubar, Maister, and Rusjan, were not brought in, and many graves of unimportant individuals, planned to be moved to Žale, have remained in the park. Plečnik's plans to enlarge the park were never carried out. After World War II, the park was largely neglected and renovation took place only in the 1990s.

Soca (Slovenia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Vacation travel video about destination Soca in Slovenia.
The Julian Alps are rugged karst mountains located on the sunny side of the Alps not far from the Mediterranean, and are one of the wildest, untouched regions in Slovenia. The Trenta Valley is the source of one of the most beautiful rivers in the Alps, the Soča in Slovenia, becoming the Isonzo in Italy - that flows from a mountain cave. In Trnovo the river flows into a narrow white-water gorge and large chunks of rock, the result of various earthquakes, lie on the riverbed. Many tributaries feed the Soča, along with the Tolminka River whose sixty metre deep gorge can be seen from the Devil's Bridge. On a trail through the gorge are a variety of plants and insects which Dr. Julius Kugy, a mountaineer and writer, once recorded in meticulous detail. It is believed that famous Italian poet, Dante Alighieri, once visited the Tolimka Canyons while staying in Tolmin and that the locality inspired his vision of the Underworld in his, Divina Comedia. The largest stone railway bridge in the world crosses the pristine Soča which finally becomes, in Italy, the Isonzo River, situated within a delta in the Adriatic Sea.

A Trip To Ljubljana Slovenia Beauty You Never Seen Before
#Ljubljana #Slovenia
Slovenia, a country in Central Europe, is known for its mountains, ski resorts and lakes. On Lake Bled, a glacial lake fed by hot springs, the town of Bled contains a church-topped islet and a cliffside medieval castle. In Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital, baroque facades mix with the 20th-century architecture of native Jože Plečnik, whose iconic Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) spans the tightly curving Ljubljanica River.

Ljubljana hidden corners # 6 - Špica Park (Speech: English, CC: English, Slovene, Croatian, Serbian)
Only ten minutes from the center of Ljubljana is the renovated promenade of the Ljubljanica River, which is known by the name Špica (the name is derived from the pointed land area). Špica was once a Ljubljana bath, and even today, due to the pleasant green and wooden surfaces, Špica looks like a beach where many citizens and visitors of Ljubljana catch the sun during the beautiful days.
The 38-foot-long footbridge connects the city to the green hinterland, the suburbs, and the Botanical Gardens. The footbridge is intended for pedestrians and cyclists.
The Botanical Gardens is just a 2-minute walk from Spica. The Castle vineyard is 8 minutes' walk away and old city center is 12 minutes away. Eipprova Street with restaurants and bars is a 10-minute walk away. The famous Livada Restaurant is a 13-minute walk from Špica.
