Aaliyah Channeled
Aaliyah Dana Haughton (/ɑːˈliːə/; January 16, 1979 – August 25, 2001) was an American singer, actress, and model. Born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Detroit, Michigan, she first gained recognition at the age of 10, when she appeared on the television show Star Search and performed in concert alongside Gladys Knight. At the age of 12, Aaliyah signed with Jive Records and her uncle Barry Hankerson's Blackground Records. Hankerson introduced her to R. Kelly, who became her mentor, as well as lead songwriter and producer of her debut album, Age Ain't Nothing but a Number. The album sold 3 million copies in the United States and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). After facing allegations of an illegal marriage with Kelly, Aaliyah ended her contract with Jive and signed with Atlantic Records.
Aaliyah worked with record producers Timbaland and Missy Elliott for her second album, One in a Million, which sold 3 million copies in the United States and more than 8 million copies worldwide. In 2000, Aaliyah appeared in her first film, Romeo Must Die. She contributed to the film's soundtrack, which spawned the single Try Again. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 solely on airplay, making Aaliyah the first artist in Billboard history to achieve this goal. Try Again also earned Aaliyah a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female R&B Vocalist. After completing Romeo Must Die, Aaliyah filmed her role in Queen of the Damned, and released her self-titled third and final studio album in 2001.
Wall Of Motown Legends With Clifton J. Perry...Detroit, Michigan
Wall Of Motown Legends...
Shared By: Clifton Jamaal Perry B.K.A. Mr. Cliffnote...
Hello! I am Clifton Perry, also known as Mr. CliffNote.” I am a native resident of Detroit, and current tenant of Northland Mall – until April 1. Along with all my fellow displaced business owners, the fate of a special piece of my art hangs uncertain.
This campaign is to save that art – a Motown-themed mural I did that stands 16-feet tall by 45-feet wide. It features some of the most popular acts on the legendary Motwon record label - a label that helped catapult Detroit’s unique music around the globe. I’m also a music man, and put five months of time and energy into creating this piece, to properly honor the legend it represents.
Schools have scheduled field trips to the mall just to see it, and I've even had a visit from the last surviving member of the Four Tops, Duke Fakir. I was humbled to hear Fakir say he came because he had heard so many great things about it.
I created the piece so people could have a visual representation of the historical significance that Motown is to this city and state. Motown smashed walls and made history, but seeing this piece get smashed or painted over would be a tragedy.
If there's anything in my power that I can do to stop this from happening, I’m gonna to do it. But with limiting funding and a ticking clock, I need support to save the mural. I'm reaching out to anybody or any institution who might be willing to help me get this mural out of the mall before it closes.
I am hoping to get it placed into a museum, art gallery, or even with a private collector for personal display. Funds raised will go toward moving costs.
Please help this historical piece live on like the timeless music it represents. Any assistance is greatly appreciated! I thank you so much for stopping by and reading about the Motown mural and the story behind it. Thank you!
Hello, everybody! I am writing this with awe for the flood of well wishes and support I have received to help save my Motown mural in Northland Mall! Everything and anything matters in a time like this, and it means everything to me for people to donate their time, kind words and financial support. As I write, my campaign is nearing the $1,000 mark. I appreciate every cent! Michigan and its people have been through it the past decade -- so I know those dollars were especially hard-earned!
I wanted to thank everybody again and share a couple updates. I have until April 9 to get the mural a new home. The other news is that I do not have to replace the wall, which will cut costs and time.
Saving this mural means everything to me because of what it means to all of us in this area. As a music man and artist, I have lived, breathed and felt that unique Detroit spirit my whole life. It helped shape me, and that tough Detroit mentality gave me the courage to create my own business doing what I love. I tried to capture that same spirit in my mural, my ode to a musical legacy. Please help me find a new home for the Motown mural, one that will allow folks to visit and feel as inspired as I was when I painted it.
I thank each and every person for their contribution from the bottom of my heart. I am humbled and honored to my core. Thanks again!
With gratitude,
Cliff aka Mr. CliffNote
The Untold Truth Of Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs
The story of Nathan's Famous hot dogs is one of American entrepreneurial spirit, with some pretty weird marketing gimmicks thrown in for good measure. From hot dog-loving gangsters to dead whales and secret recipes, here's everything you didn't know about these famous franks.
Hot dogs might not exactly be expensive food, but when they're being sold for next to nothing, people tend to raise eyebrows. At least that was the case when Nathan Handwerker launched his hot dog business way back in 1916.
Handwerker was working in Coney Island at the upscale eatery Feltman's, and they sold their hot dogs for 10 cents. After being persuaded to strike out on his own and sell a frank made with his own recipe, Handwerker launched his hot dog stand with the weiners being sold for 10 cents as well, though they were quickly slashed to just five cents. Perhaps unsurprisingly, crowds were suspicious as to why these hot dogs were so much cheaper than Feltman's.
To get people on board with the five-cent franks, Handwerker hired men in white jackets to hang around his stand and eat hot dogs. People believed the men were doctors from the nearby Coney Island Hospital, and soon began buying the nickel franks. The gimmick made people think that if these cheap hot dogs were good enough for doctors, than they must be all right to eat.
When Nathan's celebrated its 100th anniversary, they had five-cent hot dogs once again, though no fake doctors were needed to sell them this time.
Nathan Handwerker never claimed to be the inventor of the hot dog. That uniquely American food is generally attributed to Handwerker's former employer Charles Feltman. Nathan Handwerker's hot dog stand may be what New Yorkers instantly think of when somebody mentions a Coney dog, but it's something entirely different to people in Michigan, and the rest of the Midwest.
In Michigan, Coney Island has little to do with New York, but instead is a reference to the hundreds of diners across the state that serve Greek food and hot dogs smothered with chili, onions, and mustard. To them, that's the Coney Island dog or Coney dog.
So how did the name Coney Island hot dog come to prominence in Michigan of all places? Well, at the turn of the 19th-century when Greek immigrants came to the United States, many of them passed through New York and visited Coney Island before moving westward.
These immigrants took the hot dog, added chili and dubbed it the Coney Island dog. It wasn't long before diners popped up in Detroit with names like the iconic Lafayette Coney Island and American Coney Island grills.

From the inception of the automobile, design manufacturing and delivery has been shaped by the needs of consumers. When the first Model T rolled off the assembly line in 1908, the industry was already responding to the demands of the market and the promise of an industrialized future. Michigan quickly established itself as the home of the global automotive industry, that evolution
inspired by the spirit of innovation continues today and continues in the same place that gave birth to the modern automobile, Detroit. Every year, leaders in the automotive industry come together at the North American International Auto Show in a display of the latest innovations for the upcoming year. 1000 Foot Ships of the Great Lakes - All 13 Vessels!
Between 2015 and 2017, I managed to capture footage of all 13 thousand-foot lake carriers in the Duluth, Minnesota area. So it seemed like a good idea to bring them all together for one video. Some of this footage has already been uploaded to my channel as individual videos, some hasn't. But I re-edited the footage and decided to go with natural sound instead of music background this time (even if the wind noise in the microphone is slightly annoying at times). Unfortunately, three of the ships didn't offer up Captain's salutes (American Integrity, Edwin H. Gott, and Burns Harbor).
Here are the ships covered in the video. All were recorded in Duluth, Minnesota, except where noted:
0:21 Stewart J. Cort (Superior, Wisconsin)
3:04 Presque Isle
5:28 James R. Barker
8:00 Mesabi Miner
10:40 Walter J. McCarthy
12:46 American Integrity
14:46 American Spirit
16:50 Edwin H. Gott (Two Harbors, Minnesota)
19:52 Indiana Harbor
22:05 Burns Harbor (Superior, Wisconsin)
24:45 Edgar B. Speer
28:39 American Century
32:15 Paul R. Tregurtha
Which ship is your favorite? Which one has the best-sounding horn? Let us know in the comments section.
If you enjoy this video, be sure to subscribe as I occasionally upload new (and old) footage I shot of lake carriers in the Duluth-Superior area. Also, check out the 50+ videos I have previously uploaded.

James Ruskin - Detatched (2000)
Techno is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in Detroit, Michigan, in the United States during the mid-to-late 1980s.[2][3][4][5] The first recorded use of the word techno in reference to a specific genre of music was in 1988.[6][7] Many styles of techno now exist, but Detroit techno is seen as the foundation upon which a number of sub-genres have been built.
In Detroit, techno resulted from the melding of African American music including Chicago house, funk, electro, and electric jazz with electronic music by artists such as Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Ryan Heayns, Liam Todd, Tom MaccySACK and Yellow Magic Orchestra.[9] Added to this is the influence of futuristic and fictional themes[10] relevant to life in American late capitalist society, with Alvin Toffler's book The Third Wave being a notable point of reference.[Pioneering producer Juan Atkins cites Toffler's phrase techno rebels as inspiring him to use the word techno to describe the musical style he helped to create. This unique blend of influences aligns techno with the aesthetic referred to as Afrofuturism. To producers such as Derrick May, the transference of spirit from the body to the machine is often a central preoccupation; essentially an expression of technological spirituality.[13][14] In this manner: techno dance music defeats what Adorno saw as the alienating effect of mechanisation on the modern consciousness.
Stylistically, techno is generally repetitive instrumental music, often produced for use in a continuous DJ set. The central rhythmic component is most often in common time (4/4), where time is marked with a bass drum on each quarter note pulse, a backbeat played by snare or clap on the second and fourth pulses of the bar, and an open hi-hat sounding every second eighth note. The tempo tends to vary between approximately 120 to 150 beats per minute (bpm), depending on the style of techno. The creative use of music production technology, such as drum machines, synthesizers, and digital audio workstations, is viewed as an important aspect of the music's aesthetic. Many producers use retro electronic musical devices to create what they consider to be an authentic techno sound. Drum machines from the 1980s such as Roland's TR-808 and TR-909 are highly prized, and software emulations of such retro technology are popular among techno producers.
Music journalists and fans of techno are generally selective in their use of the term; so a clear distinction can be made between sometimes related but often qualitatively different styles, such as tech house and trance
Hardtechno refers to a harder and darker style of Techno music, which evolved after 2000. While the first harder Techno productions appeared around 1991 on labels such as PCP and Industrial Strength, these were referred to as Hardcore Techno. Over the years, the Hardcore scene cultivated a new sound far away from its Techno origins, whereas Techno itself went in a softer direction. At the end of the 1990s, fueled by the Schranz movement, a new, extremely hard style of Techno became popular, which is now generally referred to as Hardtechno. This style runs at very high tempos, usually around 160 bpm and features heavy distortion and prominent kickdrums.

Prehistoric Alien Mines Found On Lake Superior?
Patreon:
Facebook:
Lake Superior, the largest of the north American Great Lakes, it is also the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area.
Believe to have first been inhabited 10,000 years ago after the retreat of the last Ice Age
However, there exists copper mines upon many of the lakes islands, which many researchers have concluded to be prehistoric.
A sophisticated array of tunnels litter the islands, or more specifically all of north America.
Scarred by ancient mine pits as deep as 150 feet. Carbon-14 testing of wood remains found in sockets of copper artefacts indicated that they are at least 5700 years old.
Although many have suggested that artefacts and evidence at some sites, has suggested a date far older than what has been put forward.
For example, some investigators believe that the mines were not even built by humans, but are the remains of a sophisticated mining operation that was once undertaken by alien visitors many thousands of years ago.
Similar in scale to the ancient Carolina Mica mines, Mica being a material which we use in electrical components.
The ancient copper mines on Superiors isle royale for example, although predictable disputed, produced over 750,000 tons of copper for a sophisticated group of ancient, mystery miners.
Findings published in 1961 within, “Prehistoric Copper Mining in the Lake Superior Region, by Roy Drier and Joseph Du Temple.
It must be noted that all of these pregistoric mines show evidence of being abruptly abandoned, whether this is evidence of the death of an unknown king or queen, or evidence for catastrophe is unknown, all along lake shore are vestiges of this once highly successful, ancient operation.
The most astonishing of remnants catalogued publicly, has to be the enormous lump of pure copper, found in 1771, near the bank of the Ontonagon river. In 1945 it was floated down river on a raft by a james k paul, and was eventually appropriated by an agent of the united states government, it was then shipped to Detroit and on to Washington, where it eventually slipped into the bowels of the Smithsonian.
Known as the Ontonagon Boulder it weighs 3,708 pounds, it was apparently well known to Native Americans. According to the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, the boulder was used by tribe members to make offerings to its “manitou” or spirit, to seek improvement in their health and well-being.
Just how old is the Ontonagon Boulder? Or indeed the mine in which it came from?
Although many would like you to believe the mines are less than 5000 years of age, we think many factors surrounding them, suggest they are far older than that.

Prohibition In Early 20th Century Detroit
Michigan was one of the first starts to stop the sales of alcohol, ostensibly to protect families. Soon Detroit had many School Kids who sold Whiskey & Moonshine to adults in the Roaring 20's. Bootlegging operations and smuggling networks had formed within hours of Michigan's prohibition going into effect on May 1, 1917. With the Purple Gang and other syndicates violently profiting off liquor distribution, Michigan wised up and was the first state to ratify the 21st amendment, which repealed the 18th, and Prohibition officially ended on December 5, 1933.
