❁Nippori Station (日暮里駅 Nippori-eki) was opened in 1905. It’s a major railway interchange station in Arakawa, Tokyo, Japan.
❁Ueno Sakuragi lies only a short walk from both the Ueno and Nippori Stations. A 10 minute walk from JR Nippori Station, or a 15 minute walk from Ueno Station, this location is sure to please any sightseers interested in historical architecture. There are many great spots for taking photos that capture the unique retro-modern feel of the area.
❁Yoshida old sake shop was built in 1910 and operated till 1986. Then it was moved to the current location to be used as the exhibition hall. The exhibits include old scales, barrels and pestles that was actually used in the liquor shop during the Meiji era (1868 -1912)

お彼岸の法要で上野のお寺さんへ行ってきました。帰り道、上野桜木あたりから谷中銀座までぶらり散策の前編です。東京国立博物館、東京芸術大学、黒田記念館の前を通って上野桜木にある昭和レトロな喫茶店「かカヤバ珈琲」の前を左折して言問通りを下り、根津交差点手前で右折ししばらく民家の間を歩くとへび道です。ここらあたりは小さくていろいろなお店がポツポツと現れてきます。中でも亀の子束子西尾商店の直営店である「亀の子束子 谷中店」は束子に関するグッズが楽しいお店でした。

Yanaka Beer Hall - 谷中ビアホール 上野桜木あたり
Ueno Sakuragi Atari: this is the place where you can find “YANAKA BEER HALL”, which offers to visitors its original Yanaka style beer, Japanese style barbecue served in an earthen pot and a variety of homemade smoked dishes. The beer hall is set in a traditional Japanese house, which dates back to 1938, and has been carefully renovated to keep it as much consistent with the past as possible.
「上野桜木あたり」の谷中ビアホールでは、オリジナルの谷中ビールと、土鍋を使った和のバーベキュー、自家製の燻製メニューなどが味わえる。
昭和13年に建てられた一軒家は、当時の面影を多く残すよう改装された。
Yanaka beer is a brown color Pilsner; the smoked malt is added at the end of process to enrich its smoky smell and flavor. Its unique taste is something you would not find anywhere else. Yanaka Beer Hall also stands out for the broad range appetizers served in an earthen pot made in Iga in the prefecture of Mie. The smoky intense scent of quail eggs, thickly sliced bacon, smoked cheese and other dishes will most certainly stimulate your appetite.
谷中ビールは、褐色の色味をしたピルスナーで、仕上げに燻した麦芽を入れることでスモーキーな香り、味わいに仕上げている。
ここでしか飲めないオリジナルの味だ。
三重県伊賀市の土鍋を使ったおつまみの数々が秀逸で、うずらの卵、厚切りベーコン、チーズのスモークなど、店内に漂う香ばしい香りが食欲をそそる。

In Tokyo, Japan, the Yanaka district is known to be the most authentic part of the city, with the two neighbour- ing neighborhoods of Nezu and Sendagi. All three form the so-called Shitamachi, lower city or popular district and are grouped under the name Yanesen (Yanaka, Nezu, Sendagi). It is the part of Tokyo that has escaped all the tragedies that ravaged the rest of the city during its history (fire, earthquakes, and bombings). A large part of Yanaka is occupied by his cemetery. The rest consists of residential neighborhoods with very few vertical constructions. One can even find some lost wooden houses in the middle of the numerous small alleys of the district. The entire neighborhood has developed since the Edo period around the Kan'eiji temple and dozens of temples have been added to it over time, making the district a teramachi as found in many cities in Japan ( Kanazawa, Takayama among others). Today there must be a hundred or so small Buddhist temples in the area.
Yanaka Village's appearance, however, is not unique in Tokyo. Other neighborhoods of this type can be found in many places in Tokyo.
The charm of Yanaka is found in particular in the street known as Yanaka Ginza, or in the housing estate Ueno sakuragi atari, in its many temples and its narrow streets.

お彼岸の法要で上野のお寺さんへ行ってきました。帰り道、上野桜木あたりから谷中ぎんざまでぶらり散策の後編です。
谷中ぎんざはちょうど夕暮れ時という事もあり、大変な混雑でしたが途中の丸初福島商店焼きツブ貝を買って越後屋酒店の店先で秋田純米酒「茅舎」をちょっと一杯楽しみました。商店街の一番奥にある階段（夕やけだんだん）を登り振り返るとちょうど夕やけの時間でした。

Today we started at Ikebukuro station at the request of SpeedStar.
Part one sees us get ready at the Nerima apartment before heading over to Ikebukuro. There we start a hunt for a Nintendo Switch, but can we find one amongst some of the biggest electronics shops around?
In Part two we make out way over to Super Potato, a gamers treasure trove. There are lots of retro games and systems as well as modern goodies too. They were also nice enough to let us spend nearly two hours filming in there.
In Part three we continue on our journey eastward where I show how you can still vote in the UK General Election despite living in Japan - Postal Voting! We also head past Denzuin Temple for a quick history lesson before moving on to the Laqua theme park. We also pop by the Tokyo Dome, home of the Tokyo Giants, and see what's available in a nearby game arcade center.
In Part four we finish with a quick look at a water fountain in the theme park, before ending the stream in a beer garden.

YA-NE-SEN where early 20th century culture still lingers. A popular area among foreign visitors to enjoy the traditional Japanese atmosphere full of local color.
This area is popular among those who fancy a leisurely stroll through the folksy streets of Tokyo. The name YA-NE-SEN comes from the first letters of each neighborhood; Yanaka, Nezu and Sendagi. The area escaped damage from the bombing in World War II, so a sense of early 20th century culture still lingers there. The area is also characterized by many uniquely named hills and narrow alleyways.
