Full steam ahead to the Ogden Union Station
A look inside of the Union Station and the history behind it. The station is located in Odgen, UT on historic 25th street. The station is no longer a functioning train station, but now serves as as a museum, meeting place, banquet hall, ballroom, and even has a restaurant. The outside features several different trains which also has become a great place for graduation, family, and engagement photo ops.
UNION PACIFIC TRANSCONTINENTAL RAILROAD 150th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
May 2019, Ogden, Utah - Big Boy 4041 and the Living Legend 844 were back on the tracks as Union Pacific hosted a celebration marking the 150th Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad’s completion.
The ceremony was held at the Ogden Union Station, a day ahead of Utah’s celebration at Promontory Summit where the Golden Spike was originally tapped into place. The ceremony featured Union Pacific’s iconic steam locomotives, Living Legend No. 844 and Big Boy No. 4014. The two met, recreating the historic image taken at Promontory Summit on May 10, 1869. The Big Boy is one of eight left in the world. It’s newly refurbished and the only one in operation.
Following the steam meet, Union Pacific Railroad Chairman, President and CEO Lance Fritz and Utah Gov. Gary Herbert were joined by Margaret Yee and Sandy Dodge to tap a ceremonial spike. Yee’s ancestors were among thousands of Chinese immigrants who forged the transcontinental railroad for Central Pacific. Dodge is a descendant of General Grenville Dodge, a Civil War veteran and Union Pacific’s chief engineer during the construction.
It all started with the signing of the Pacific Railway Act of 1862 by President Abraham Lincoln as the Central Pacific Railroad of California, chartered in 1861, was authorized to build a line east from Sacramento. At the same time, the Act chartered the Union Pacific Railroad Company to build west from the Missouri River.
The original legislation granted each railroad 6,400 acres and up to $48,000 in government bonds for each mile completed.
And so, The Great Race began. After the completion of the transcontinental railroad, communities all along the backbone of the Western United States - some created by the railroad - were forever changed.

STANDING AT THE PEAK OF HISTORY
U Channel Foundation is a public welfare media platform established five years ago. Our crews went deep into the mountains and towns of Utah, Nevada and California, and visits the old railway sites in the western mountains. We hope to do our part to restore the truth of history.
We sincerely invite you to stand with us at the peak of history, present this historical fact to the world, and record the hard word of the ancestors in the history books.
Echo Canyon and Ogden Utah Railfanning
In this video, I go up to Echo Canyon to railfan. Then, we head to the Ogden Union Station to check out some fallen flag trains.
======================================================
During the Echo Canyon visit, I see a Union Pacific refrigerator train. It has very little cars and 2 engines.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While we were at the station, a commuter train creeps up and honks it's loud horn at me IN A QUIET ZONE! It scared me pretty bad. I did see some pretty cool things there though....

Ogden Exchange Building Part 2
Once used for county offices and mental health facilities, the building has seen its share of tragedy. The paranormal activity experienced at the building has been attributed to a triple homicide that took place there in 1941, three suicides and one natural death. From 2005 thru 2010, the owner used the building for the Lazarus Maze, an interactive haunted theater, which may have increased the ghostly activity. The Exchange Building was built in 1930.

BIG BOY
On the 9th of May 2019 I was fortunate enough to be in the United States of America to witness the World's Largest Operating Steam Locomotive, recently restored 4014 in action. Union Pacific had taken this locomotive from a Park in Los Angeles California in 2013 and transported it back to Cheyenne Wyoming for Major Overhaul and return to service. All so It would be ready for it's anaugural run to Ogden Utah for the 150yrs of the Golden Spike and the linking of the Transcontinental Railway. This video shows the Engine in the freight Yard heading for the staging Area where is performed the re-enactment with 844 and then at the Stage shunting back.

Helper, Utah - A town with a past, and now a present and likely a future.
What can we learn from a rural town in the central Utah mountains? I say quite a bit! Based upon what I saw in 2012 which looked very much like the epitome of America in decline - and now just 7 years later, a town with strong signs of renewal everywhere! What happened to turn things around and who are the heros of this story? Allow me to introduce them...
