Ljubljana Hidden Corners: #2 Botanical Garden (Speech: English; CC: Engl-Slovene-Croatian-Serbian)
The Ljubljana Botanical Garden (Slovene: Ljubljanski botanični vrt), officially the University of Ljubljana Botanical Garden (Botanični vrt Univerze v Ljubljani), is the central Slovenian botanical garden, the oldest botanical garden in Southeastern Europe, and one of the oldest cultural, scientific, and educational organisations in Slovenia. Its headquarters are located in the Rudnik District of Ljubljana, the Slovenian capital, at Ig Street (Ižanska cesta) along the Gruber Canal to the southeast of Castle Hill. The garden started operating under the leadership of Franc Hladnik in 1810, when Ljubljana was the capital of the Illyrian Provinces. It is thus an averagely old European botanical garden. The institution is a member of the international network Botanic Gardens Conservation International and cooperates with more than 270 botanical gardens all across the world. Of over 4,500 plant species and subspecies that grow on 2 hectares (4.9 acres), roughly a third is endemic to Slovenia, whereas the rest originate from other European places and other continents.

Botanic garden - Ljubjana
Celebrating, in 2010, the 200th anniversary of its continuous work, the Ljubljana Botanical Garden is the oldest Slovene cultural, scientific and educational institution. It was founded in 1810, the time of the Illyrian Provinces, as a garden of native flora and a section of the Central School (École Centrale). It was planned by Franc Hladnik, who was also its first director. The Garden grounds originally covered 33 ares. Thanks to Hladnik and his connections with the Austrian botanists, the Garden was not closed down after the restitution of Austrian sovereignty. After 1822 it was enlarged for about 16 ares and surrounded with a wall. Hladnik continued in the director post until 1834 when the management of the Garden was taken over by J.N. Biatzovsky. At that time, the Garden was again enlarged. A pupil of Hladnik, Andrej Fleischman, successfully managed the Garden from 1850 to 1867. His work Übersicht der Flora Krains (An Outline of Carniolan Flora) was published in 1844.
A renaissance of the Garden began under the management of Alfonz Paulin in 1886. Three years later, in 1889, he began to issue a yearly seed index (Index Seminum), which he distributed to similar institutions all over the world. His remarkable herbarium Flora Exsiccata Carniolica was being published in the period between 1901 and 1936. Another remarkable figure to be mentioned is Franc Juvan, a gardener and Paulin's pupil who worked in the Garden for 64 years. Since 1920, the Garden has been a part of the University of Ljubljana founded in 1919.
In 1946, after World War II, the management of the Garden passed into the hands of Jože Lazar who enlarged the Garden to 2.35 ha and built a greenhouse. He was succeeded by Vinko Strgar (1967-1992) who continued Lazar's work and also established connections with numerous similar institutions abroad.

Let's go check out #Ljubljana #Piran and #LakePlitvice
►Ljubljana is Slovenia's capital and largest city. It's known for its university population and green spaces, including expansive Tivoli Park. The curving Ljubljanica River, lined in outdoor cafes, divides the city's old town from its commercial hub. Ljubljana has many museums, including the National Museum of Slovenia, displaying historic exhibitions, and the Museum of Modern Art, home to 20th-century Slovene paintings and sculptures.
►Piran is a resort city on Slovenia’s Adriatic coast, known for its long pier and Venetian architecture. Tartini Square is flanked by the Gothic red Venetian House and the frescoed Tartini House. The latter is the birthplace of violinist Giuseppe Tartini. The 19th-century town hall has a stone lion, a symbol of the former Republic of Venice. St. George’s Cathedral, nearby, has 17th-century paintings and marble altars.
►Plitvice Lakes National Park (Croatian: Nacionalni park Plitvička jezera, colloquially Plitvice, pronounced [plîtʋitse]) is one of the oldest and largest national parks in Croatia.[2] In 1979, Plitvice Lakes National Park was added to the UNESCO World Heritage register.[3]
The national park was founded in 1949 and is in the mountainous karst area of central Croatia, at the border to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The important north–south road that passes through the national park area connects the Croatian inland with the Adriatic coastal region.
The protected area extends over 296.85 square kilometres (73,350 acres). About 90% of this area is part of Lika-Senj County, while the remaining 10% is part of Karlovac County.
Each year, more than 1 million visitors are recorded.[4][1] Entrance is subject to variable charges, up to 250 kuna or around €34 per adult per day in summer 2018.

Interview with dr. Aleš Kuhar about food innovation and digital transformation in the food sector
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aleš Kuhar from Biotechnical Faculty (University of Ljubljana) shared his thoughts on food innovation and digital transformation in the food sector in Slovenia, namely:
- Which fields in food innovation in Slovenia need to be improved?
- How do you see the food sector and farms in Slovenia related to food innovation?
- Are small farms ready for digital transformation?
- Do have small food processing companies better chances than bigger farmers in transition or survival on the market?
