Christmas in Ljubljana
Hi guys!,
last December I’ve been in Ljubljana, a place that has preserved its small-town friendliness and, at the same time, has everything that all the larger capitals have.
Ljubliana is a little wonderful place to visit if you love Christmas lights and markets: in fact, this city is known for having one of the most original lights displays in a lot of streets and squares, in the castle, in churches and bridges.
Christmas markets includes numerous food and drinks stalls, in the streets there are several smaller fairs, such as the Christmas Art Market and ARTish, as well as the numerous city centre shops, offering fashion clothing and accessories, slovenian arts and crafts, and local culinary delights.
Now I’m going to tell you the five things that you have to see, or to do, into this city:
One: The Presernov Trg, the Ljubljana’s central public square on the riverside on the edge of the Old Town. The square forms the central hub of the city where several important roads converge. Here you can see magnificent buildings including: the art nouveau Urbanc House, which houses the centromerkur department store; Kresija Palace that houses municipal offices, the city’s visitor center and the Kresija Gallery, and the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation.
At the center of the square stands a statue of the square’s namesake, Slovenia’s national poet: France Preseren.
Two: Take a walk along the river Ljubljanica, where you can find the Triple Bridge (the most frequently used bridge in the city that connects the main square in the new town, with the Old Town and the market); the dragon bridge (the dragon is the symbol of Ljubliana), and the Butcher's Bridge. The area can best be experienced on a relaxing and romantic tourist boat cruise down the river;
Three: Hike to The Ljubljana medieval Castle, whose Outlook Tower offers some of the most beautiful views of the city. The castle houses several museum exhibitions and presentations including, among others, Slovenian History, The Prison and Virtual Castle.
Four: visit the Tivoli Park, the city's largest park, a popular place to relax and spend time with friends and family, where you can find interesting exhibitions of large-format photographs held there on a regular basis;
Five: visit museums and galleries, like the Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Slovenija, the City Museum of Ljubljana, or the Museum of Illusions.
So, have a nice holidays in Ljubljana and… enjoy!

Text description provided by the architects. This urban sculpture, a new Tivoli info point, is actually the end of another story, the¨TrimoUrbanCrash 2007 competition¨ and beginning of a new project. In the first competition, two projects were chosen to be built as temporal structures. After two months, the event was finished and we took them apart to be recycled. At this time four separate initiatives for permanent use of pavilion came to municipality of Ljubljana, and it seemed to be the perfect opportunity to reuse this urban sculpture. Initiatives were brought by International Center of Graphic Arts (MGLC), National Museum of Contemporary History, academician Jože Bernik and deputy Jožef Školč.

Formerly, the site was a military headquarter of the Army of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, then it became the Slovenian headquarter of the Yugoslav National Army. It consists of seven buildings (military barracks) extended over a total area of 12,500 , which have been squatted since September 1993. Ljubljana's central market
The City of Ljubljana has decided to modernise Ljubljana's central market, build an underground garage and set up a friendly place for both visitors and sellers.We received the prestigious international Gubbio award in the category of architecture for the renovation of Congress Square and the revitalisation of archaeological parks. The square regained its importance as a central area for numerous cultural and sporting events. It is also a place where foreign dignitaries are hosted. The renovation of the central market has a similar significance for its future development. The purpose of the renovation is to improve living and working conditions, as well as the quality of urban space in the vicinity of the Dragon Bridge and Plečnik’s market. At the same time, it is important to preserve cultural heritage and everything that one of the most eminent locations in Ljubljana has to offer. So, what is new? The indoor market will be located in the atrium of the extension of the Mahr House, while the city administration will be located on the upper floors. The relocation of the textile market to the indoor market will facilitate additional space for the central market and make it even greener. The parking garage will provide better working conditions in the central market area, easier access for visitors and a car park for residents. Environmental impacts will also be reduced, as exhaust gases will be diverted through the roof of the extension. Ljubljana has been following the trends of other green European cities that provide car parks at the edge of pedestrian zones. The central market will operate smoothly, with only minor adjustments during construction. The textile market will be located at Petkovšek Embankment, plants on Butcher’s Bridge, vegetables and fruits at Pogačarjev Square, and at Ciril Metod and Krek Square, if necessary. The part of the market located in Plečnik’s Arcades will operate smoothly, as it lies a sufficient distance from the construction site.When the project is finished, it will facilitate a bigger green market according to modern sanitary standards, new premises in the Mahr House and a museum centre depicting archaeology of medieval Ljubljana; and at the same time traffic and logistics will be regulated. The current parking area will become a lively place with a wide range of services for all visitors and particularly for you, the citizens of Ljubljana.
